From what I'm Hearing... Motorcycle Rally a Bust

Very few bikers due to Malecon under construction and the lack of security from
the corrosive elements and sand with your bike over a few nights. Some bikers were
complaining about rust pitting on their chrome. Also the "Gringo Tax" imposed by merchants, can tend to get out of hand with pricing of food, beers and drinks. Sandy beach condos are also shunned upon due to the distance of the events and possibly sand drifts on the road making it hard to see at night. The bikers are favoring the hotels on the mirador and in town. However reservations have to be made by mail to lukeville. Passport issues, bad press, hassles with customs over due child support or petty traffic warrants and the high costs that these days few have at their discretion to spend... attendance will be down again. Laughlin NV on the other hand is poised to make their Bike Week the place to be seen. With the new bridge to Vegas opened, the truck and
rv traffic will be non existant in Laughlin. You can bet the political higher ups have told
law enforcement to lay off the bikers this time or you won't have a job next term. Havasu did just that with attracting the spring breakers, just that the drinking age in
mexico is 18...just my $.02

I've received numerous emails from friends who were here last year asking about our hours and specials etc. Everyone that I have talked to sounded very excited to come. Only one group said they couldn't come due to a wedding they have to attend. And it is the 10 year anniversary. Don't buy into the negative press - on the news or on this forum.

But... I will be down there the week after camping on the beach, just this time without
my Triumph, just the yamaha dirt bike. I love RP and have been going down there since
1977 and will continue to go as long as the USA permits me.

Sounds like a little "backpedaling"......

I just wonder whose bright idea it was to have it the first weekend of Nov. when it's been the weekend of Veterans Day in the past????

OK....I'm not a biker.....but the more I thought about your post, the more that the "BS" sign was going off in my head.....

Some bikers were complaining about rust pitting on their chrome.....give me a break....4 days of salt air is going to cause chrome to get rust pits?????? Spend some money for charity, and have the XX girls/Firemen give your bike a wash!

Also the "Gringo Tax" imposed by merchants, can tend to get out of hand with pricing of food, beers and drinks....and Laughlin will be any cheaper?

The bikers are favoring the hotels on the mirador and in town. However reservations have to be made by mail to lukeville......Just checked one of three hotels located on the Mirador...the El Mirador...and they have online reservations....with a secure web site.

hassles with customs over due child support or petty traffic warrants.....OK....I will admit I haven't been crazy enough to go back home right after the previous 2 Bike Rallys, but US Customs had extra lines set up for the rally participants (those on bikes) where there was a cursory check of your paperwork with no input of license plates into the computer....so how are they to verify that a biker has outstanding "child support" or traffic warrants? And based on this comment, the inference is that MANY bikers are in this situation....that is, having outstanding child support or traffic warrants......

Thanks Joe, you saved me the trouble. Yep, for some reason they wanted to paint a negative picture, and I don't care how long they have been coming down, they went the extra mile to try and do so!

Lovin it in RP!
If we only have 5 bikers come down, its 5 more than here already and they are assured of a great time. Look for positives not negatives, geez!

Good job picking that 'report' apart. I like to do that too, especially when it's a published report in the news. I had a lot of fun with one TV news director some time ago when they published a bunch of misinformation on their web site about Tubutama. Keep up the good work.

If I am correct, there are quite a few more bars in Calle 13 or/and Mirador Beach, than in the Old port and if bikers are worried about getting their bikes dirty then do not go to the malecon area and AZDIVA you are full of it when you say that reservations have to be done by mail to lukeville, remember we are in 2010 and the internet works anywhere now, wait there are far corners in Greenland that do not have reception yet!!

I also seriously doubt that they will give out any free passes for DUI's in Laughlin. Just ain't gonna happen in the States. They tend to be much more open minded here. The business owners and the Penasco city government really do understand that we have to be nice to tourists if we want them back.

Hey I watch Sons of Anarchy weekly so as an expert on Biker culture i can safely say they all have warrants out for them,a love for trailer parks, old ladies that are porno stars, guns and more guns ,drugs and more drugs, daily fights with strangers on the street, battle mexican gangs and seem to eat very grease filled breakfast items at 3 in the morning....hey it sounds like a natural fit with Rocky point!

I wish they had the Rally over Vetrans Weekend as well. I was told in June it would be that weekend so I made other plans for the weekend of the 6th. I really wanted to go the only thing that worried me was the possibility of sliding the bike in the sand when I hit the asphalt oh and the thought of having to bring down an extra tire for after the burnout contest...

I've been to nine of the ten biker rally's. Yes, the numbers are down but it still one of the best weekend parties of the year. Camel Toe is fun with the bikers riding in and out of the bar. Calle 13 is a good place to hang out. The most action is all day is in the Old Port. In years past the stunt riders did there gig in front of Black Dog. I can't wait to do it again!

I just hope the city's poor planing construction on the Malecon don't discourage bikers from coming next year. I can't believe they are focusing on the damn sidewalks and left the streets looking like crap. Today I seen the workers filling in all the holes and trenches with dirt and sand. This makes it very dangerous for the bike riders. I think this is one of our top 3 draws for tourists. I am a bit disappointed the city didn't think this one thru.

I think that the way things are planned and how they are worked is a major problem all over the world, specially when the "city" is doing the repairs/remodel, if not just look around your own town, in Tucson most of the time you have 5 workers talking and laughing next to the only one working!! so it should not be a surprise to any off us when this happen in RP, at least you see the majority of the workers working.
Is that an oxy?sp morron "workers working" only if refering to government workers!!
