Fair trade producers in Sonora...just good news for all.The table grape growers around Caborca need to feel some pressure too.The workers from Southern mexico are being paid poorly by middlemen so the growers "hands are clean"Products
Nature’s Partner is proud to work with growers who understand the meaning of social responsibility and work to improve their communities. Our Mexican grapes and watermelons are grown by the Salazar family, who is deeply committed to its community and the well-being of its employees.
The Salazar family has a social responsibility program that focuses on four main areas:
· Health and Hygiene: The first step to improve workers’ quality of life is to strengthen their health and provide them with education for better hygiene practices and disease awareness.
· Academic and Human Values Education: The Salazar family encourages education as a basis for self-improvement and virtue for employees to enrich their quality of life and better the community as a whole.
· Facilities and Workers’ Housing Improvement: Employees are provided a proper living environment to enhance the balance between productivity, rest, and personal health.
· Transforming Leisure Opportunities: On the Salazar farms, it is a priority to provide workers and their children with constructive, healthy activities during days off. The programs especially encourage positive behavior in the community’s youth population.
The Salazar ranch was recently certified by Fair Trade USA to sell its watermelons under the Fair Trade
