Nope!!There was an earthquake of 4.7 magnitude this morning between Guaymas and Enpalme. Did anyone feel anything?
No kidding! From Chile all the way up the coast into Cali. Article in the paper this morning says they are fearing "the Big One" in Cali after the strong quakes and numerous after shocks this week -- they said it's from a fault that runs perpendicular to the San Andreas fault.Lots of activity on the Pacific Ring of Fire lately!!!!
I thought I had read that a series of smaller quakes releases the pressure and reduces the chances of a biggie. No kidding! From Chile all the way up the coast into Cali. On the bright side, think beachfront property in Arizona!!!
Overall, I'm inclined to agree with you. I think the concern was over the pressure that seems to be building along the entire fault line at the moment. When you look at the amount of total earthquake activity within the past month or so, there's been quite a bit. And as things move around and loosen one piece and tighten up another in a different spot, who's to say when a big a bigger event might occur. Not exactly like predicting the weather.I thought I had read that a series of smaller quakes releases the pressure and reduces the chances of a biggie.
In the late 50s a Prof at Caltech indicated that current thought was either a series of smaller quakes released pressure - or the reverse, indicated a big one was building - take your choice. He also thought the big one was due to hit California within 4 years. So the average Joe/Jane has as good a chance at being correct as a Caltech Prof Maybe the animals are a better indicator.I thought I had read that a series of smaller quakes releases the pressure and reduces the chances of a biggie.
I'm siding with the animals. In the late 50s a Prof at Caltech indicated that current thought was either a series of smaller quakes released pressure - or the reverse, indicated a big one was building - take your choice.
