Yesterday my neighbor's niece wanted to save a bit by having her wheels rotated before she drove back to San Diego today. Don asked me where she could get it done and I went with them to a small modern shop on Benito Juarez near the Circle K Pemex. I avoided the new tire store near Penasco Hardware that I used a year ago, after they stripped 3 bolts/nuts and twisted 2 studs completely off from cross threading and did not mention a word. I caught the problem 2 weeks later on a trip to Tucson.
I talked to the boss and he assured me all lug nuts would be started by hand.
The work was done quickly and the bill paid in full. We were backed out and bid farewell. Just to be sure I then inspected each wheel and there were no sheared studs. However, all 5 right rear lug nuts were finger loose. They were not even finger tight. They were barely started on the threads. The boss was correct: they started them by hand. What he did not mention is they did not remember to tighten them even a small amount.
I've never had a wheel come off at high speed, but I doubt it's a pleasant experience.
