Cholla Bay shore report 4-24 4-25

Cholla Bay 4 Life
Shore fished a couple of my cholla bay honey holes with no action to report. Fished 4 or 5 different Kastmasters, no luck on any of them. Talked to Via, he was telling me that the pongas were running up and down the shore line between pinto point and pelican point at Sunrise and boated some nice Sierras, one was 8lbs he said. Other than that, nothing to report. Ill have my next go around Memorial weekend, and even possibly entering the Memorial weekend cholla bay fishing derby.

Wow! That just go's to show what a difference a week or so can make. Both estuary were dead then, no birds, and no bait fish. Wait till the first of June, it's going to get real busy with everybody eating everybody else. Ah spring, the time of rebirth, and eating your neighbor.

Their a big deal in a lot of water's. In the Bahamas for instance, their big business. Guides get paid big bucks to guide fly fisherman out on the flat's for em... Florida as well.
The biggest one's I've caught has been in Marua, but the thickest I've seen them is the North end of La Pinta. A lot of the guy's pick them up outside of Cholla Bay for bait as well.

Kenny,

How far north in La Pinta? Will be out there the week of June 6th.

If you go to the right after you get down past the panga's there are two points, a small one, and a bigger one past it. On the other side of the second point, before it narrows down to a channel, there is a huge flat area that you'll see at low tide. The Bone fish are thick up in there the first week in June, but so are the Ray's. It sounds like from Wahoo's post that the estuary's are starting to come alive, so it might be good now.
In this picture I'm standing out on those flat's at dusk. If you look to the left of me, and up on the peninsula on the other side, you can see the first start of the construction of the Mayan Palace.

Kenny, So what was the largest bone fish?
They don't seem to get as big in our waters as they do in other area's, like in Florida and the Bahamas. So if you get a 14-16 inch in the estuary's, it's a very nice one here. They tend to run a little bigger out in the bay on average, and surprisingly, you don't always catch them on the bottom there.

I have a proline flats boat (about 6" of draft). Can it be used to fish in the estuary? I see the inlets by satelite and wonder how deep they are.
