Cell phone service in Mexico

Here are the details about T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan while traveling in Mexico and abroad.
In Mexico they use Telcel and Movistar networks.

I have no vested interest in T-Mobile other than being a customer and liking this great program.
I really like the free Wi-Fi calls and texting feature between the US and Mexico.
I will give it a try when I arrive in RP on Saturday for a week.:)

What is the cost you pay for this service? One phone or two?
I have the Tmobile with the new Sony waterproof phone that has a 22mp camera and with a couple MB a month hotspot plan tacked on ( hotspot only works in states I think) it is 80 bucks a month.I used it for the first time in Mexico last month and had an issue. It only worked with Movietel not telcel but the Tmobile techs say that should not be the case. You also need to turn it on and off in Mexico so wifi calling works correctly they told me.....think wifi calling is free on my plan

I have used wifi calling on TMobile for a couple of years. works great (receiving and sending calls on my cell as if I was in the states). The only surcharge I ever see is sending texts out while in mexico (not much though).

There are plenty of apps for smart phones that allow free wifi calls from any where that there is a wifi signal regardless of cell carrier.

I have a family plan with 5 phones on it (3 with 2.5GB and 2 with .5GB data and we pay $145 per month with a 15% corp. discount. We moved from Verizon 2 years ago and were paying almost $300 with less data.
For the record- Verizon has better quality call and data service where I live in AZ, but not that much better than T-Mobile
I just saw T-Mobile just raised the data to 1GB and 3GB for no extra cost.
A single plan costs $50 per month for unlimited calling, texts and 1GB of data.
2 lines start at $80 per month.

I have a Mexican TelCel phone that will text message and even take voice calls from anywhere in the world. Paid 40 MP for it and load time as I need, with NO monthly bills.

I used to do that, but since I am RP for only 50 days a year I didn't like that the $10 balance on my phone disappear because of non use while in the USA. Easier for me to just use my T-Mobile account.
Now when I retire and start spending 6+ months a year in Mexico I will get a reloadable phone.
