Caborca to Puerto Libertad

We go down south of Puerto Libertad beach camping. Last time we went, the costera between Puerto Lobos and Puerto Libertad had not been completed, but I hear it is now. The direct road from Libertad to Caborca (not passing through Desmembouqe) was still the same horrible dirt road that it had always been.

We're going again and wondered if anyone had any updates. Specifically, has there been any progress on the Caborca to Puerto Libertad road or is it best to go through Desemboque? From Sonoita, what is the quick way to Libertad? Sonoita-Penasco, then the Costera or Sonoita-Caborca-Desemboque then the costera to Libertad?

I'll give a road update when we get back.

Sonoyta to just outside Rocky point...take the the caborca turnoff...50 mile later at the overpass go to the rightand pick up the costera (the first 2-3 miles have you drive next to (it might be done by now) You then drive on the new road past ejido Obregon...the desemboque turn off.... followed by a 30 minute drive to lobos ,,followed by maybe 40 minutes to Libertad.

Report back...camping site...fishing info....beach pictures

Back in Sept of 2010 after a day of free diving in Puerto Lobos when it was time to head home we took a short journey to the south toward Puerto Libertad... this is only a 45 second clip of our detour to Libertad which lasted for about 20 minutes... hope it gives you an idea of what the coastal highway is like in that direction....

Joe we only took the new road for about 20 minutes past Lobos and turned around because it was getting late in the afternoon and we wanted to get home after a long day of free diving...

and besides didn't you see the closed captioning saying we turned around..?

Someday maybe Bill can get us all in to visit his buddies giant Rancho down by Lobos
I'm ready... is it on the water..? I'd really like to walk the beach north of the lighthouse in Lobos... haven't made it there yet but hopefully will soon... we're planning another trip in April, but who knows something may come up and we'll get to go sooner....
