Beer hunt??

Haven't been down in a few years, but I keep reading on the forum about being stopped when coming in and them looking for beer and fish. Why? Back in the day, I practically was a distributor of beer when heading down. Never got asked if I had beer or fish. What's changed?

I think they want you spending your $$ in Mexico. And the checks are random as heck. I personally have never been inspected going in and I usually have a couple 30 pks of miller.

The laws may have changed but what is permitted is well published by the Mex. govt as well as some accurate info here. Have not heard about fish. Beef and beef products, like dog food are on the no no list and the amount of alcohol you can bring in is restricted. Nothing new about any of this. And yes the Mex. govt does not feel it is necessary to inspect each and every vehicle coming into the country and it depends on which agents are doing the inspection. Everyone is just doing their job and passage has been uneventful for most.

Dont' be a fuss budget just enjoy the Mexican beers, there are quit a few. Really all you need to bring is some clean skivvies and a couple of changes of clothes, swim suit and cash. You can find anything you need here and no fuss over packing a lot of crap from up there.

Why would you bring fish from Arizona to Rocky Point? Rocky Point has the best seafood in the Western Hemisphere!

We took a gal and her two kids down once and when they got to our house to load up and head down she had 3 pounds of shrimp packed in her cooler. ????? huh ???? She didn't know.

It won't be fish I'm bringing, just beer, so that was my concern. I'm heading down in a couple weeks. I'll pack cerveza as I have in the past and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

Me & a buddy had a couple of 30's once & got caught. They wanted more in tax than it was worth. Told em we weren't paying & they were really pissed. They finally let us turn around and go back across the border. Then we had to deal our border guys, basically gave the beer away at the gas station, turned around and recrossed, got inspected again, they were still pissed. They finally let us go & we bought beer in Sonotya. I drink Mexican beer now!
