Bad gas?

I filled the Jeep at the big Pemex on the right side of the road before you cross Rio Sonoyta in Sonoyta this afternoon on the way home. Put in 12 and a half gallons of green. I had filled the Jeep with green on the way down at the Circle K Pemex on the right side at the crossroads in Sonoyta on Friday. I know it was really hot this afternoon ( We travelled between 2:15 and 6:30) and she had a pretty big load and we were running the air on the next to highest fan speed (3) but she was pinging and running about 10 degrees over normal. I have used Mexican green without any issues until now. Do you all think it was just the heat, weight and A/C together? I am going to fill her with high test tomorrow. She has never done this before........

LJ watch the fuel consumption also I was talking to Bill and he mentioned that his fuel milage was off when he used Mexican gas. I checked myself and found that with mexican gas I get on average 3 mpg less than if I fill up in the states, Not sure why this is seems to me that the octane is not what is stated on the sticker.

Rob, she never got any different gas mileage on Mexican green before.....just yesterday she was pinging and running a little hot. It was wierd.....

I always track my fuel consumption....and even when I was driving a truck running gas (not diesel), got about the same with Mexican fuel.....the only problem I've ever gotten was with a load of diesel I picked up that had water in it.

I think so. I think I saw 87 octane on the sticker. I'm going back this weekend with a smaller load and I will look at the pumps. I was always told by my Mexican friends that green was fine for the Jeep......It has been up until now......I'll see if she pings and runs hot this week here at home and on Sunday aft. when I come back.......

Ladyjeeper, we always purchase the gas at Ligato by the airport or the Circle K in Penasco and have never had trouble using the "green" Magna gas. It also is cheaper than Sonoyta gas- last weekend in Penasco it was $2.88/gallon - $8.93 pesos/liter.

Probably just bad gas. Try adding a can of octane booster to your tank, or top off with 91 octane. Also could try adding a can of fuel additive that removes water contamination. Pinging and overheating can cause engine damage, so I would not wait.

Funneeeee Sheryl........

I've had a load of watered gas before and it was waayyyyy worse than this...I'm surprised the water escaping didn't leave skid marks on my manifold! It was like riding a bucking bronc. I was out in the middle of nowhere on the res. Now I carry a can of water remover.....I will put high test in today and watch her.

Miramar, is that the new airport way out by the Mayan? I got cheated at the Circle K Pemex once. I usually use the Pemex on Sinaloa and Fremont, in my hood, the Mirador.

Thanks

The day we talked, my mileage average was down to 15.4 from 19.

Well, I drove 2 20 mile stretches yesterday and did not notice anything unusual. It had to have been the weight and heat. We are coming back down tomorrow. We'll see........
