Whenever we tell anyone we are going to Mexico they most common response is "Aren't you scared?" I always respond with "Why do you ask?" You guessed it, because of what they heard on the news. Our families fear for our very lives every time we head south of the border! Of course, these are the family members who have never been to Mexico.
I have to say that we have never had any problems and never felt like we were any danger. To date the worst thing that has ever happened was hubby got a speeding ticket in Sonoyta - and he will admit it was absolutely his fault, he was speeding. Of course he paid the man right then and there, but you know it was still cheaper than any ticket he would have gotten in the US!
Bad things happen in Mexico, but they happen everywhere. I will never forget the week we were in Mexico and a little girl went "missing" in Glendale, and they still have not found a body.
