Anybody see these PRI voter swag bags floating around recently?

Every election I find it horrifying that they actually pay people to vote for them. Not sure if the other parties do that, but the PRI certainly does. During the last presidential election they were giving away $200 peso gift cards to Soriana. For those who know about Mexican history, there were people saying right after the election that the Spaniards burned Cuautemoc's feet to get him to tell them where Moctezuma's gold was hidden and he never told them, but in 2012 Mexicans gave up the gold for a $200 peso Soriana card. Good point there Russ. I agree completely. Let the politicians steal all of the tax money, not just most of it. Why go for half when you can get the whole thing. Furthermore, good responsible Mexican citizens should pass along to the elected officials a significant percentage of what ever wages they can earn. I mean who really need 1000 pesos a week? You are 100% correct, everyone should totally ignore the elections and show support for the elected officials by donating directly to them. Those that refuse to pay can have their feet fried til they donate. Makes good sense to me. I just cannot imagine all these pin heads trying to interfere with helping the elected officials keep their hard earned stolen tax money. Keep up the effort there Russ. You are on the right track on this one.
Roberto
Here's another good solution to the problems of politics...who cares. This is the second recent example of an opposition candidate leading in the polls who was shot and killed. Who Cares. Hey that's a great political slogan you came up with there Russ. Who Cares.

Shot and killed Morena candidate, former leader of AD in Yurécuaro, Michoacán

Yurécuaro, Michoacán.-

The candidate for Mayor of Yurécuaro, Michoacán, for the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), was shot to death this afternoon by unidentified gunmen.

The founder of the self-defense groups in Yurécuaro received several gunshots while traveling in a van with his daughter to a rally in the city.

A few minutes ago his death was confirmed.

In the attack that occurred about an hour ago, three other men were hit by bullets, but the severity of their injuries is unknown.

Morena sources reported that the aspiring mayor was ahead in voter preferences and said that almost 90 percent of the municipality of Yurécuaro was showing support, especially for the help they received from Hernández as part of self-defense groups.

Last week Hernández led a rally with more than 1,500 supporters.

Look at history Roberto......6000 years of human governments......the common have never had influence on the elected ever. ever....ever....Go ahead and vote Roberto go ahead and make your little difference Roberto, number one, you don't have a rooster in this fight and number 2 if you did it still would make zero difference. Thanks though for playing down to my level, politicans are all crooks at the end of the day. They may start out as good guys with big ideas but then get trimmed to conform. Thats ok though if you believe in them please continue......
mexicoruss
Rubbish Roberto Rubbish. Who do they play for? Time will tell. So yes Roberto "Who Cares?"
Roberto
Here's another corruption based effort you can ignore Russ.

mexicoruss
Yeah well so I guess if I stand my ground and be a good guy and care about it that it will all go away Roberto but the fact is the jackasses run the roost in most places.......complain all you want about it, regulate it all you want, make laws all you want and the burros still win.

Well anyone who is willing to pour acid on their vagina in her defense deserves out support. Dunno Russ. With your attitude towards democracy you prolly don't deserve to live in one. Sit back on your butt, make money and let others do the hard work. You might change your tune if you lived in an African country with a despot dictator. I think you would change your tune if the shitty politics had an effect on your ability to make money. You have mentioned how important that is to you several times and how good you are at it.
mexicoruss
Maybe I should move to a place that has a despot dictator since I am cut out for that sort of thing. Roberto i am sure you did the heavy lifting so you can live where you do, back off.

No idea what this is about

Hey if you guys are done pissing on each other, there are probably a bunch of us (maybe just me), who would appreciate a better understanding of the actual mechanics of the Mexican election process.
I'm a sympathetic third party standing with the people and wonder what they are thinking about at elections.
How does it work?
Who are the candidates?
What are the messages?
This may sound dumb but do the cars running around with loudspeakers blaring such and such work?
Is it term limits that prompt politicians to promise everything then leave with as much as they can take?

I'd appreciate an intelligent neutral discussion rather than vitriol...............

Then i cannot comment

Where is our happy go lucky Russ. It seems like in the last 6 months or so your online demeanor has changed.
mexicoruss
Yeah for the life of me, I cant think why my tolerance for stupidity and other outlooks on life would have diminished......
GV Jack
Do you mean "other" or "others' " or both?
mexicoruss
both

Maybe, like me, you have become a grumpy old fart. As I look back, you were one of the first people to help me out on this forum.
You guided me to a good Carnecaria to get the best rib eyes I've ever had.

But, unfortunately, that was many moons ago and sadly, things have deteriorated in the world and on this forum. This used to be a place
to ask legitimate questions, get helpful responses and even sometimes find some humor. Now there is more back biting, bitching and belittling.

If it weren't for this forum I doubt I would be going to Rocky Point. Between this and Facebook I have made some good friends there and have a much
better understanding of Mexico and the great Mexican people. That unfortunately was then. This is now.

There is an interesting election coming up and it could have an impact on what RP is to become. Corruption, of course, there's corruption in everything we
experience every day. Fortunately there are no corrupt tour guides, lawyers, real estate folks and least of all governments. That is a given all
over this planet. I guess with that as a given, the question is who, once the chaff is separated, will retain enough integrity to actually make this a better place.

If there is no hope, then there will be no life.
AZRob
If there was no corruption, I dont think the world would turn.
El Tiburon
Profound Jack, absolutely profound! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

That was cute Robert...I guess copying and pasting things out of context somehow makes you more professional? Still cute though, life is great!

That's a fair approach but the answer is very, very complicated. You can prolly get a good technical description of the theoretical process off the internet. Many suggest that the cartels and governments are so intertwined that they are one entity. Popular candidates in important drug producing or transshipment areas who vary from a strong party line are often shot by unknown people or jailed on some trumped up charge.

Most Mexicans do not see elections as the selection of a person to fulfill a governmental role. For many it's an opportunity to make some money off the process or get a job in the new administration as a new broom sweeps clean in Mexico.

How does it work? A single party ruled Mexico for most of the time since the revolution. For this reason it was often not classified a a democracy by some thinkers
.

Who are the candidates? Whomever is selected by the parties. Two big parties PAN and PRI a host of others around the country. The President is not up for re election this go round. In Sonora the Governor is up as is the Presidente (Mayor) of Penasco.

What are the messages? The usual stuff, nothing worth thinking about. They will say whatever suits them and spread around $$$ and goods to get votes. (Oh no I sound like Russ !!)

This may sound dumb but do the cars running around with loudspeakers blaring such and such work? They are cheap !! Prolly not as well as the moblets wearing party T shirts that are roaming the neighborhoods, waving flags and passing out lliterature.

Is it term limits that prompt politicians to promise everything then leave with as much as they can take? Term limits are pretty much meaningless when the process of selection of candidates is controlled by only a few families. Sad to say but most politicians and even voters seem to believe this is a right exercised by any elected official.

I'd appreciate an intelligent neutral discussion rather than vitriol...............

Come on Russ. You comment follows directly after the first comment. I cut only the bulk of the earlier message and pasted Nada. It' funny as can be. No, I have no professional life, gave that up, nor do I aspire to have one.
jerry
A good rundown...saw the PRI candidate on TV.....

PRI loses the homeport funding is in trouble....go PAN you magnificent crooked bastards
MIRAMAR
If home port funding is a federal project and Nieto is PRI I don't see how a PRI local candidate would cause the funding to stop.
jerry
They are accusing PAN of diverting funds across the board and they may halt funding like they did with the coastal highway This sets them up in the next presidential race .
