The other home port thread just got too long.....here's a few pictures of the crazy busy construction of the Home Port Building blocks going on in the desert North of Esmeralda. They have been busy for weeks and are adding capacity to manufacture the blocks they need. It is incredible what they can do!
A friend that also thinks this dog won't hunt said one of the saving graces of the deal is a botanical park will be constructed where they are making these God awful blocks.

Pay attention....stuff is getting done without your approval or blessing. I know, I know, it's a crime. It is happening though

Fitting that this mess is proceeding right behind another unfinished project. Hopefully the botanical garden works out. Also still think they can probably do something cool w/ the jetty when complete. Fishing, market, a good place for tourists to get charters, etc.

The wind turbine works just fine, an unfinished project? I don't think so.
In penasco it seem we have a difference between city/state/federal backed projects and private money projects. The government backed projects seem to have more stability and a higher probability of completion than those in the private sector. Maybe something to note when comparing what will be finished and what is not finished.

Yeah my guess is it probably gets finished to some degree, much like the airport. Since there more than likely won't be actual cruises there anytime soon, they should probably move fast to make it a launch spot for fishing charters, dinner cruises, etc. Right now that area around the Malecon is so congested with limited parking. A new, regulated starting spot for those types of activities would be great. Also, try to assimilate it with Wrecked, Mar Blu, and some new businesses to try and make it more of a destination. A giant (empty) passenger terminal and jetty would be quite the eyesore.
I don't know much about the upstanding jerry person who posts here quite often, but on this blog it seems he/she rents or is trying to buy property in Santo Tomas. As I recall, ST is closer to somewhere else, to buy a gallon of water, than it is to RP. Likely she/he invested there instead of RP because she/he chose not or could not afford the prices of RP. Nothing wrong with that. We all live within our means, however modest, without denigration of those who might have more.
Notwithstanding being a drive-by non-resident of RP, this jerry person has never said anything positive about Penasco, and is constantly downgrading RP, especially regarding the cruise ship port. It appears "jealous jerry" is envious of the progress RP is making making. jerry seems to be on a mission to discourage all readers and tourists from being positive or optimistic about RP, and visiting us. This person is on a mickey-mouse mission to defeat the cruise port, for the benefit of no one. I guess failure in Penasco will make jerry feel better about something ?
Can anyone say for sure jerry is a male or a female? pointer or setter? Not that it matters....just curious.
Tourists and investors: check the agenda of the author of everything you read before you believe it.

If you only knew just how funny you are, you might be able to laugh at yourself, "not that it matters"... This one here reminds me of the guy who recently told Joe he should get a kayak when Joe already has one decked out to the max.
British Virgin islands used to be awesome ,then they thought it would be great to get cruise ships in. NOT! we no longer go to Tortola where the cruise ships dock. I know it is called progress ,but I would rather go to a Place where they don't have cruise ships. Just saying ,one man's opinion,Leigh
yeah the only reason I could see, was if you had a business of some sort, that would profit from this. Otherwise all you are doing is adding a whole lot of people to an already stressed infrastructure , into a very laid back community. Some people like lack of progress in this form. Let the nice small towns stay that way. There are plenty of larger cities that can handle that many people. I have personally seen several Caribbean ports go to crap when they opened up to cruise ships. Have a great day Leigh
Oh brother....Hookers,pickpockets, van drivers, real estate scammers and kidnappers will love this thing...not sure which of these professions our three mystery posters engage in but no doubt some form of number two...JWT...maybe 1...
Looking back you have posted about team Homeport ripping off the truck drivers,Portugal stealing your insurance premiums...both do not put Rocky Point a positive light..still anyone tha eats fried conch can't be all bad......why hide your identity?

I have not been going down to PP for very long, I will start with that.
It may be presumptuous of me (if I am using that term correctly in this context) but I never call Puerto Penasco, Rocky Point.
I don't want to be lumped in with the tourists that use, abuse, trash and disrespect more or less everything they come across when visiting.
The "If it wasn't for my money..." excuse that people use to shit on everything and everyone disgusts me.
However, knowing how heavily the economy relies on tourist money one would expect fewer complaints about food, service and attitudes from the locals that you are paying your money to.
The reason I say this is I think this subject is just as complicated as present dynamics of the area.
For those of us that love the area, (for the most part) the way it is, lived in and maybe a little old fashioned, busy but only enough so to be a little exciting, seeing a cruise ship big enough to put 1/3 of the local population into parked across the street may not seem all that great. I think it would be terrible to turn the place into a temporary rest stop for all the passengers that would never bother to explore the areas around PP and get to know the place.
Personally, I am not all that impressed with the Sandy Beach high rises, I will hang out in the Mirador hood any day.
On the other hand, I have a hard time understanding how the infrastructure of such a well known place (RP) has not benefited from the years of popularity that it is known for.
So perhaps that could all change with the amount of jobs that would be created by turning PP into more of a tourist pit stop than destination. If the monies generated were directed properly then maybe the social situation for the locals would improve across the board.
Chances are that wont happen. The ship will be staffed by people from other parts of the world, the staff at the port itself probably wont be locals either. Just a few local computer/comunications and IT savvy people to help with any logistical problems that could occur.
I don't know, I just don't think it will mean things will get better for anyone other than the people that stay with in a half mile of the Sandy Beach condos. Not trying to trash anyone specific or in general, I just think people are missing or don't care about what I consider to be the bigger picture that is Puerto Penasco.
I am more worried about the Sea but you PigeonCoop people better get ready for the pollution."Cruise ships are also responsible for significant amounts of air pollution from the dirty fuel they burn. Even at the dock, cruise ships often run dirty diesel engines to provide electrical power to passengers .
Yeah thats a whole other can of worms. Considering everything get washed up on bone beach, let add oil slick to the mix. Then the trash on board. This will get ugly.

Gotta love our visitors throwing rocks at the homeport, you could join Jerry in Santo Tomas where there is nothing.
You can call Puerto Peñasco Rocky Point as it was discovered and marked that way by a very early sailor, way before it was a town. You can not call it Puerto Penasco as that is wrong all day long. (its a ñ thing, bugs me all day long alt 0241 solves it)
Men change everything they touch, complaining about it does not make it better.
Find your happy place and stay there, don't bang on people who see things differently than you.
We will roll with the changes, we will try to profit on the changes, we are not making the changes we are simply adapting to them.
Grab a cold beer go look at the beach while you are still alive (if that's your thing) and stinkin chill out.

I am not throwing anything at anything.
Yes I would hate to see a huge monstrosity over there but as I said if the people of Puerto Peñasco (thanks for the code Mexi, as it bugs me too) were to benefit from it then I am all for it. I just am fairly pessimistic about those chances.
Kinda funny how what I felt was clearly my concern for the people and the area could be considered mud slinging by the locals...
Mexicoruss, I don't have time to chill out! Lol, there is to much exploring and fishing and learning to do with my limited time there.
When I get back home I have time to chill and think about what I found, caught and learned so I can apply it to the next trip down.
It will be interesting to see if this kinda thing happens to...

I think it's you that needs to "stinkin" chill out Russ and remember you ain't driving your Van with a bunch of tourist's in it that dote on your every word here. This is a open forum.....Geeezz, you'd think he called you a flim flam man.
You can also use the windows short cut, character map for the accented letters.
Type in "character nap" in the start menu search box, and add it to your task bar
or desktop.

Very cool. I have been building gaming systems for 18 years, more of a hardware guy, so I am terrible with what software is available to use within Windows.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks Kenny. I didn't think I said anything controversial, and was fairly clear about what I thought was most important.
I guess I should have just said " I wonder if this will help the people that actually live down there or not. " and left well enough alone lol. It's been a long time since I have been part of a forum and I guess I learned there are Trolls living in PP too!
What was even funnier was Chihauhau liked my comment and then liked Alacranes' reply flaming me! LMAO... It puts things into perspective with who is "contributing" to the forums.

Very well said, Russ. Especially "Find your happy place and stay there, don't bang on people who see things differently than you."
How about progressing and getting the street kids some nice cloth rags for cleaning windshields, instead of rags filled with sand. That would improve the economy greatly and helps drivers not live in fear as they wait for the light to change.
Just want to stick my dos centavos in here. When we are talking about the local economy in general and the "locals" benefitting, especially when talking about beach vendors - I'd just like to make it clear that a majority of them are not "locals". They are Mexicans, but they come from other areas of Mexico and DO NOT live in PP full time. They are seasonal - they return to their home states, or move on to beach towns further south that are in high season when PP is not. I understand, though, that it indirectly effects the local economy because even those vendors living temporarily in PP have to buy locally while living there.
Well...it is a complex issue and we are just talking...no worries from me( I enjoy the give and take) but it is fair game to talk about the Sea killing nightmare. You boosters realize we will not get a Disney Super Ship but most likely a crappy old Carnival pollution machine that will trudge the 7 stop Northern gulf bargain 7 day 6 night buffet and booze torture feast don't you? Three day old lime jello served by Pakistan s finest...The Mexican congress may kill this bad idea soon if they do not legalize gambling.... No international waters in the gulf.

As a half hillbilly myself (Elkhart Indiana lodge) I want to know why anyone has problem with our people? Especially Cholla bay people...We each have junk boats and pickups on blocks in our messy yards,we like our beer and are required to have a smoker on the patio

I wasn't really offended by the Hillbilly comment, I was mostly concerned that someone was looking into my lineage, lol.
The white side of my family is from the hills in Springfield Ohio, grand pappy was even kkk.... I am a half breed that loves and hates everyone equally.... well, almost everyone. o_O

The federal government has already authorized the operation of casinos and duty free stores on board cruise ships on the Sea of Cortez.

It seems some people don't read well. One comment states .not a fan of sandy beach, and bashes the economic values of the homeport. While another tells them to go to Santo Tomas. So get away from anylizing some peoples thoughts and beliefs. I agree the port will benefit PP but with any progress comes problems.
I may not as educated as some and well versed , but the way I see it the dissenters can pack up there 5th wheels and go to Santo Tomas and support the Ejido.
More money will come to PP , property values raise , airport will function more, restaurants will feed more tourist, penacate to see more visitors, condo owners will reap rentals, more service jobs ,(taxis, baggage handlers, maids, security, cooks, etc ).
Ok I am ready for your attacks. But I am not a two or three time year visitor, I own here and support the locals daily.
When Hillberto said "I never call Puerto Penasco Rocky Point" because he didn't want to get lumped in with tourists, Russ responded that it was William Hardy in 1825 who first named the area Rocky Point. There was no need to start bashing him for that response- let's all chill out , especially during the holidays. Some people living in Penasco (can't get the tilda on my laptop) want the port, calling them names isn't going to change their feeling on that. I'm for the port if it helps people raise their standard of living, but I'm glad it's in Sandy Beach and not down by the Mayan- we can look at it from afar. I said I would never take a cruise ship, but the thought of cruising the Sea of Cortez sounds really tempting!

I will remind you of this when the water shortages come, the crime goes up,the beach hustlers become unbearable, the border wait stretches to hours, the prices go sky high to eat out and beach garbage is everywhere. Why isn't Cetmar backing this boondoggle? Because their team privately thinks it is a nightmare for the environment but cannot comment publicly. Fear of reprisal...
"They started the name calling in this thread then act all hurt when it comes back at them."
Jerry, I didn't think Russ's comment had any name calling- just stating the facts that you can call the town Rocky Point because that's the original name.

Just like every person has an opinion, every beach area has a problem. Dorado &Miramar both suffer with home values, proprty discrepancies, and screwed up HOA's.

" stinking chill out" in his words..read again and you are right sorry but....not name calling but the same attempt to stifle any bad news from the area we saw in the down playing of the Shootout and real estate fraud in past threads....again we are just talking here..I just want to know who some of these new commenters are and what they will gain from this....most likely male hairdressers planning on making a killing weaving cruise ship guests hair.
No one should be insulted about anything that I said at all. No names were called and no sides were taken. I think that I said the situation was very complex. Anything that could help Puerto Peñasco I am all for as long as it helps the people there.I am just not as optimistic as some others might be.
No one can truly know how it will pan out. Nothing said here will make or break the deal or even affect whether or not the project comes to fruition.
Me not calling it Rocky Point is not an insult, but I will tell you when I say I am going to Rocky point up here in Mesa, not in the hills, when people hear that name nothing but bad comes into their minds. Cartels, corrupt police, shoot outs, drugs, booze and people basically acting like animals for the weekend. You have no idea how much promotion I do to get people I come into contact with to get over their fears of going down.
When I say Puerto Peñasco they say, where is that! And then I paint a very different mental picture to them than what they see on TV and read about online lumping PP in with the rest of Mexico. I instantly show them pictures on my phone that look much different than they expect.
I didn't bash or trash any ones personal opinion and my personal opinion was not out of control or unreasonable.
No one should have to be fighting over anything I wrote, or treating me as if I insulted anyone. I appreciate Puerto Peñasco more than you give me credit for and am concerned that it might not all work out as well as some others think it might, very simple.
I am trying not to really let this bother me but, I behave, respect and treat that area better than most that go down there and use it as a weekend toilet no matter how often I am there or whether or not I own property down there. The fact that someone owns down there doesn't mean that they're opinion holds more weight than anyone else that appreciates Puerto Peñasco.
This should end now, it was made a bigger deal than it should have been by far.

Thinking about it a bit and think will start a thread on potential problems with Homeport and will stop peeing on Russ's wall.[/QUOTE]
I wouldn't. Unless it helps you get things off your mind, then I understand. Just seems like an invitation to a Bonfire lol.
I think this thread is ruined anyways. And everyone has said what they have to say IMO.
Russ should start a new thread with no commentary just updated pictures. I am interested to see how much gets done. I will be there in 2 days and am very interested to see whats been done in the last month.
Forums huh... gotta love the emotional connections and life long friends you make! Lol.

You got to be kidding Jerry....you got that in reverse.....you disrespect more people on this forum than all the other contributors combined then you get all hurt and have to come back even harder. Your constant negativity is getting real old.

I just like to call it my second home. Someday I hope I can just call it HOME !!!
I still don't know if Santo Tomas Jerry is female or male!
We live in PP. We love it. It ain't perfect but it's working hard in that direction.
I agree with Apricot... Jealous Jerry/JJ, as well as his/her dedicated likker from some place in Az, only visit PP as occasional tourists. We all can spot the difference between a local and a tourist !! They would have invested or rented, and live here, if things had gone differently for them. No one faults them for that. (Rike and I would live in Paris if we could afford it !) Jerry appears to have an agenda inconsistent with the welfare of PP, and seems to get stimulated by downgrading the community in which some of us are fortunate enough to live . I suggest JJ should be happy and supportive of the good fortune of others. We hope the New Year will be good to JJ so he/she can actually relocate and call PP home, rather than just a place to pass through and bash later. Bringing PP down won't improve anything for JJ....it will only make JJ bitter and a stranger when he/she can actually call PP home.
NOTE TO NEW VISITORS /TOURISTS TO THIS FORUM: look for the person posting negative nonsense here disclosing that she/he actually owns or rents here, and actually spends considerable time in PP. Legitimate posters will say PPRES.
Rocky Point was your second choice after Paris( did not know they needed timeshare sales people in Paris)....hate to see the third but look, you guys are in the real estate game and want everyone to think all is fine in Sonora.Guess what ...things are not fine. The last condo boom brought a new level of poverty to town when outside southern construction workers were brought in.After the work petered out they were stuck here. The water and electric grid and the cops are sketchy.Any American or Canadian that values any level of peace and quiet would be crazy to want a busy HomePort. The interests of a vacation home or condo owner and your type just do not line up.Why would anyone in their right mind buy a condo now until they see how this thing plays out unless it was to just fill it with renters and let the party get going 24/7....who the hell wants to live next door to a three BR condo full of drunks getting ready to jamb on a cruise ship?
You got to be kidding Jerry....you got that in reverse.....you disrespect more people on this forum than all the other contributors combined then you get all hurt and have to come back even harder. Your constant negativity is getting real old.
Sorry,in the future I will follow your example and only post positive stuff...like when you were drunk and thought about throwing a corona at a drone. You have really added to the forum by the way...Maybe you could even start a new forum for a fictional beach town ...let's call it Happy Point where it's sunny, every deal is a good deal, the gas pumps really give you a gallon of gas, shrimp scales are set the customers favor and their are no shoot outs or speed traps worth mentioning......
JJ: please clarify if you are male or female. Your photo here is ambivalent. Not that it matters.
I'm guessing our JJ is offering something for sale in Santo Tomas and is having some trouble getting any inquiries.
This JJ person is now a drive-by expert on most everything outside his sandbox. DUH !
To educate JJ: Our PP water is potable, and we have not bought other water in a couple years. I'm sure you have the same in Santo Tomas.
Our electricity has not even blinked in 2 years. I'm sure you have the same good service.
My phone and high speed internet is around 30.00 per month, and has not burped in 3 years.
It seems JJ may have not actually stopped in PP in a few years for more than a couple hours. As such, JJ likely knows nothing of which he/she bloviates. Drive by sniper, and nothing more !
JJ: educate yourself if you want credibility, or just pack it in and start a Santo Tomas blog. We all are weary of your diatribe. If you have something to offer, we look forward to hearing from you again. Otherwise...

Again you're just making a ass of yourself but please continue as more than a few of us find your arrogant ignorance amusing... "otherwise" what you pompous

There you go again, making stuff up. Did you forget, that was your suggestion at the time to throw a corona at the drone, definitely not mine. Go back and check that thread out. And then to say that I was drunk, simply not true. You know, there's a label for that personality disorder of yours.

Sorry Kenny, I have to disagree. It's Jerry that's making an ass of himself.
JWT thinks that asking Jerry if he's a man or a women is cute and it is, if you're into Trannies. We don't know you JWT and like all of your type, you're to much of a coward to put up your name or a picture..No question that we have another one

I'll stay on this subject but going back over the years you'll find that Jerry and I have been right more often than not. For instance, if you go back to the beginning of the original thread you'll see that I posted that the type of rock and the way they were mixing them for the breakwater wasn't going to work. I'll tell you something else too, the fix their going to try will be no better than a band aid!
Now we know: You are JJ's constant likker ! It appears you are definitely male.
Why do you proudly wear a wife-beating shirt ? Domestic violence here in PP is not a good idea.
Your last post was a gem. If you can get sober in the next 36 hours, please send us something at least a 10 yr old can understand. What you posted is silly and nonsensical.
If you can learn some clean language, and save up to buy here in PP, you will be welcomed.
Otherwise, if you can't rise to basic standards for a forum, you might want to ignore this forum until you can add something intelligent and of interest to folks who live here. DUH

Hey, what's with all that what's your sex stuff? It sounds like you may go both way's or maybe a Tranny?
How's that big shot, up to your standards yet?

Well, OK....I enjoy most of your posts but have a hard time understanding why you always support Jerry. He enjoys walking all over people, being rude and inconsiderate. Most of the stuff he spews is made up stuff or down right lies. I'm surprised he's able to get away with it all the time.

First, Jerry is my friend both on and off this forum and he has been for some time. With that said you may not agree with him but calling him a liar is going to far unless you have something specific you'd like to bring to the front. Now we've both made mistakes, but never do we intentionally post anything that could be called a lie...Now I can't say the same for some on here with vested interested in PP that only bow down to the all mighty dollar and will try to sell anything, good or bad, in the name of "progress".
Do you know the history of this forum and that it was created after our other long time Forum with a wealth of info was bought and destroyed for bringing to light, and Jerry was a big part of it, the shady deals around town and in the vicinity. We are now lucky enough to have Tyler as our benefactor and because of that this site is not beholding or at the mercy of the real-estate colony in PP or the states. The truth is that if people would have listened to the warnings on that forum some would have not lost their life savings and others millions.

Awe how nice, Just beautiful for Christmas Buddies.
Hey this is fun......You bubble living real estate hacks do know you have water at the expense of the poor neighbor hoods.Power outages are a real problem in much or RP.The dust in the air is full of human waste because of crooked deals when the roads were reworked...breath deep.... Much of the info I get comes from people in town that hate the way RP is headed.
Kenny you are probably the best person to ask this question. Was the Condo Boom the biggest change to RP or have there been other "tipping" points, good or bad in the past? Thanks GD
Oh I've heard, Mark, Rockyptjoe, Cactus jack, just to name a few...
Loved Cactus amigo....he got in a beef with Azbeachboy, mark and RP Joe over there fondness for photography of teenage girls in exchange for colorful beads. He had good local knowledge and you got to miss a guy who would cruise around RP in a Caddy, open container in hand and a fine Mexican beauty at his side with a pearl handled snub nose tucked in a ankle holster. The other guys should comeback too...Mark left because I made fun of the old pope and for being called out over his attitudes learned on the South side of Chicago.. We all learn.
What I don't understand at all - and I've said this before in other threads - is why isn't there room for ALL opinions? I don't want only rainbow colored, nothing is ever wrong postings, and I don't want all gloom and doom. I want BOTH. It's up to the reader what to do with the information they receive. Why is that such a hard concept to understand? We all have something to add. I love Russ' enthusiasm, but I love Jerry's no holds barred, tell it like it is attitude as well. There is no perfect place on Earth. Rocky Point or Puerto Peñasco, or whatever the hell you want to call it, is a beautiful place that has a lot to offer, but it also has some serious problems as well - just like any other place.
As for this Santo Tomas selling garbage that JWT is spewing - what's your beef with Santo Tomas? Everyone has different tastes. Some people like living in a beach town where there's not much of anything. Those are the same people that buy out at Miramar, Encanto, etc. Then there are the people that enjoy the activity of Sandy Beach. Which can also be very quiet at times during the week during low season. For some people that's the best of both worlds. Then you have the people that prefer to live in-town for various reasons.
Also, just because you live there full time doesn't make anyone the PP Guru - Know-It-All. Someone who's been visiting since 1956 knows a hell of a lot more about the heart of the town, both past and present than somebody who's been living in the hood for 2 years. Just because you "live in the hood" doesn't make yours the only "authentic" experience.

Totally agree with what you are saying. But it's all about respecting each others' opinions, which I believe Jerry does not. No place is perfect....each beach, each resort, each area of town has its pros and cons as you have said. With that said, I love our condo on Sandy Beach and our resort. But I also love getting out to the other beaches and areas in town every time we go down there. Jerry and a few others seem to think we have some ulterior motive. They just can't believe that we are happy with our lives and excited about the homeport. Jerry, just so you know, I'm not in the real estate business and never have been. Neither do I own a business in town. We own one condo, don't rent it out, and don't plan on selling it anytime soon. And I'm looking forward to taking the grandkids on one of those Disney cruises on the Sea of Cortez.

He is most definitely a liar. I don't have the time right now to go back thru the threads or even this thread and cite examples, but there are plenty of them. One example is calling me a drunk and saying I threw a Corona at a drone. Where and why does he come up with this stuff? All I'm asking is that he keep it respectful, no need to keep bashing people. IMHO, the reason Jerry keeps getting away with this stuff is because of the few members like you that always back him up. I totally respect people with other opinions than mine and even welcome them, but the point I'm making is please keep it respectful.
I certainly wouldn't waste a full Corona on a drone but an empty bottle might be alright. If none are available, perhaps take a cue from this protective parent.

There are others on here who have spent much more time in and around PP than I, but because I would be gone for long periods of time up until 85 I do have snap shots in my mind of different periods of development. The paving of Sandy beach for RV's and the high end development in Cholla Bay and beaches south brought in the epitome of the ugly American but at the same time brought in, especially the trailer/RV crowd and weekenders, a certain happy go lucky vibrancy to the community. People knew their way around, talked with their neighbors and supported local business as a matter of course.
No question that the Condo's brought in a new level of poverty to PP and a new attitude toward the area by the new arrivals that is not only condescending but ignorant as well.. Sure, not all the Condo crowd can be thrown under that blanket but hey, when you've been coming down for years and you have never been down the road to explore, don't know who your neighbors are or how to get to the fish market. What's the point in more just for the sake of more except for greed or possibly just money to keep up your air? The reality is that when you buy a Condo here or anywhere in the world you're only buying air not real property and it's a damn shame so many of them like to heat it up and then blow it around. What's special in and about PP is exactly what their ignorance and pompous ass attitude destroys. Sure I know that some of our friends on here who live in Condo's don't fit that mold and be grateful for that. I am.
