Train Accident

Estero on his way to San Diego reports that there is an horrific train accident where the train tracks cross the road that connect the coastal highway to the Sonoita highway (the road to Laguna Shores).

That road is completely impassable, so if going to Sandy Beach from Sonoita you will not be able to take the short cut and will have to go into Penasco and out to SB the old way.

One can still connect to the coastal highway from Sandy Beach via new road connection which passes the new wind turbine. But you cannot take the short cut from Sandy Beach to the Sonoita highway.

He reports it's a real mess with many RR cars tipped over and coal strewn everywhere. Hope there were non of the passengers hurt .

Maybe I'll go gather some coal for the fireplace !!

Went out to the site.....it was a train wreck! Talked to a local cop for a while who learned English watching the show growing pains as he grew up in San Luis Sonora. I asked about the perceived corruption in the police just cuz I can, and his reply was awesome.."Crap happens everywhere in the world and it's not good, but look at that sunset"

So it turns out the track has been cleared so that train traffic will continue without delay.
The road is not open and probably will not be open until early next week. They are reinforcing that section of track for one thing and the damage to the road crossing was pretty bad.

Adding insult to injury, there is no easy way to get from Benito Juarez (4 lanes of construction and a closed road) to the condos without cruising through neighborhoods on dirt. So at the Auto Zone traffic light, turn right (Samuel Ocaña) head towards the condos for about 1/2 to 5/8s mile. There are construction banners so you have to go left (there is a water store called Sirena on the right where you turn) but you turn left. Turn right at the first road and follow that all the way past the paved road Constitucion, cross the pavement and continue to the RR tracks turn right then left back onto Samuel Ocaña cross the tracks and you will see the condos.

Hopes this helps

What about turning down No Reelction?

If you are coming in from the North Benito Juarez (main st) is blocked off so you have to do the whole through the hood only opposite, so I have family coming down and we thought Samuel Ocaña was the easiest solution for the Sandy beach side

From a distance it looked like coal but turned out to be scrap metal pieces.

That wreck may have gotten someone's attention about the condition of the tracks. Large group of workers cleaning out between the tracks at the crossing on Benito Juarez today. The dirt was up to the top of the steel rails. That would be a bad place for a wreck. Maybe they will fix the pavement at crossing, again, too.

Is the road open yet? Headed back down Monday

I went down on Thursday. Road is open but slow down as the tracks are above grade. Cars are still on the side of the tracks
