Two weeks ago the border guard on the U.S. side, returning to the states, commented that I had too much dirt & mud on my truck, it was illegal and I would have to turn around, go back to town and wash it off. I complained about the line & time and everything else and he ended up smirking and passing me through. Anyone have a similar experience over mud on their vehicle?
Years -- many years -- ago, after a storm, the Caborca road between town and Mayan was one filled wash after another. It was around 9:00 PM and after successfully plowing through all that, we met worse conditions on the beach access road. It was pure slime -- mud that was deep and wet. Travelling on it was more like a "controlled slide," until -- on the downside of a hill -- we met our match. In front of us was a "graveyard" of a few jackknifed, semi-buried vehicles. With that, we revved the tires (mud flying) in reverse, turned around, "slid" our way back out, and began our 4-hour drive back to the States. At the border our vehicle was totally encased in thick, semi-dried mud, except for some wiped-away portals on the windows. After sharing our story with the border officers, they merely laughed and directed us onward. All that to say, I'm thinking the too-much-mud accuser was just fun'n with you.
I have a friend of mine who flew in and the guard told him he had dirt on his clubs and shoes and that was Illegal. Was the last time he flew into Mex.
Are you kidding?! ?!? Those of you that know me know my Jeep is really red but it's usually brown all the time with dust, dirt and mud. LOL! Now I get to worry about getting that guy on the way back..........

When we asked the border patrol/immigration person what happened he said their car was too dirty so he told them to get it washed on the west side of the road about a mile back. So yes, we've heard of it- crazy.
I was throwing so many dirt clods and big hunks of clay out from under my Jeep on the way home from PP one time, that my in-laws who were following us home dropped back at least 50/60 yards so they wouldn't get hit and that was after I had dug out at least 15 lbs of mud from under it after our Marua estuary adventure.

Okay -- so it does look like another "new rule." I guess I'll put "clean car" on my return-to-States checklist, and maybe pack some teeth whitener strips just to be safe.
This new rule seems like nothing more than harassment unless you are the guy at the border with the mirror on the end of the pole inspecting the undersides of vehicles. All you would see is mud & wouldn't be able to do your job. I hope they only apply the mud rule in extreme cases as they should for our safety.
I asked the Agent yesterday as to the, dirt in question. The reason that was provided by the agent was that the dirt may have come from an agricultural area. The dirt may contain disease that could be passed onto our cattle.

That is the same answer we got flying back into the US from Guanajuato.
Funny, I thought I was sent to secondary inspection because my car was to clean. Saw on a reality show that one of the things they look for is a car coming out of Mexico that is clean. Go Figure.
