I wonder what kind of ecosystem damage occurred because of world war 2 at the time he did this journey. Mans incursion on nature is usually all bad all the time. I am sure forerunners before Steinbeck were "turning over in their graves too" wasn't the first world war the one to end all wars? ha ha. Man is funny.
