First Border Crossing -- Easy and Smooth!

Crossed over at Lukeville/Sonoyta at about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. The few vehicles ahead of us got the green light on the Mexican side. Well, we ended up with the "dreaded" red light. Don't know whether it is random or not, but seems like we were stopped because we were driving a newer car (only a few months old). Border agent, who was pleasant, asked us to pop the trunk and show us our registration. No problem. After maybe two minutes, we were cleared and on our way.

Although many people probably don't stop at the Immigration Office to get an FMM (tourist card), since we were ahead of schedule and it is technically required for stays longer than 72 hours, we decided to park and go inside to fill out our paperwork. The agent was very helpful and even filled out our youngest son's form while the other four of us filled out our forms. In less than 15 minutes, we were "legal" and on our way to PP. No charge for the FMM for stays of 7 days or less. As a bonus, we had a clean windshield when we got back to our car. Quite a bargain at $2 :-)

Took it nice and slow through Sonoyta and stayed the speed limit to Puerto Penasco, despite all the other vehicles flying by us as if we were standing still. Only missed one "Alto" sign in PP, which my wife and oldest son quickly pointed out! In less than 24 hours here, we are loving Rocky Point. Sitting on the patio at Palacio del Mar in the Mirador, 80 feet from the water. Very quiet and relaxing. Only a few people in sight as far as the eye can see. Looking forward to the rest of the week. Thanks and God bless.

You were probably a victim of the new "Newbie Radar" they just installed a week ago.
Is detects nervousness and excitement levels.
But really they were just bored that day and wanted to see if they could intimidate someone. :p

It took about a half an hour last night at around 6:15 to get into the states- 2 lanes open.

It took me 15 minutes today at 2 and 4 lanes were open!?

With those Monday times I'm guessing that's good news and more evidence that more people are going back to the beach.
