Semana Santa 2014

Wednesday here before Easter weekend. Traffic is picking up already and will build through Saturday and die down Sunday and dead prolly next week.
While the Alcalde's promise to have the road construction done has been partially fulfilled, BJ in front of Wally Marts complex is a sh*t hole. Ocana is to be avoided as it is bad.

City workers are out in force in the Mirador area anyway. Watering and blading the dirt streets over and over. Front end loaders loading trash from empty lots.

Front end loaders are pushing back the debris dumped in the empty lot off Fremont on Josefa. There were so many deliveries the stuff was right at the edge of the roadway, chunks of asphalt and concrete and dirt. Looke like a bombed out town. Have not checked the dump on the Caborca highway since Sunday but it was there in all it's glory at that time. Again stuff filling the land and recent loads dumped just on the edge of the roadway.

Much more activity preparing than for Spring Break. Someone mentioned to me that the Pres of Mexico might be visiting, if so that's prolly a big motivation to clean up.

After spending a few days in Santa Ana and Magdalena Penasco looks shabby to say the least.

RP times post. Dry camping allowed during Semana Santa on sandy beach by the reef!

The Caborca highway dump is heading more West now. It will be to the Las Conchas turn off if it's not stopped. What a mess it is. There is always a guy there picking up cardboard. Someone said $ 5.00 US, a ton.

Anyone know if they permit overnight stay at Mi Playa in the Mirador

There was a guy with a pickup and trailer loaded with crap leaving the dump on Josefa as the cleaning was in full swing, and turning toward Caborca prolly to dump there !!!!

Most I have seen is construction materials and one hell of a lot of trees and huge stumps.. I didn't know we had that many trees in RP. ..............

I think I seen a palm tree from Sandy Beach too!
MIRAMAR
If the President of Mexico is coming, he'll be flying into the airport, and driving right by the dump on the Caborca highway, so hopefully they'll clean it up-soon!

The town is rockin. Line to get to the Malecon this AM at 11 was all the way to Fremont!! Cloudy with storm out of the south and some rain this AM but clearing with high clouds at 1:30. No I'm not going to Sandy Beach to report :p:p:p:)

Heard that the dozers were pushing back the trash on the Caborca highway and maybe trying to bury it. It will make more room to dump the post Semana Santa clean up:eek::eek::eek:

Thanks for the reports. I was wondering how it was going. Tonight is gonna be a helluva party. Nobody will be sleeping whether they like it or not!
Roberto
Sleeping is for daytime, nights are for partying :cool::cool:.
Skys are clearing so looks like no rain.

Not a day to be driving around Penasco, at least anywhere near Calle 13 or the Malecon. People are ignoring traffic lights, blocking up intersections, and generally driving stupid. The 4 way at the RR crossing is ignored by BJ drivers. I bullied my way in a few minutes ago and then had to menace a couple of ATV's blocking an intersection. Of course everyone is ignoring the new no turn regulations onto Calle 13 from BJ. Police were stationed there yesterday but looks like they gave up. Lots of pick up trucks loaded with drunks in the back and ATVs roaring through traffic. Saw one compact pickup with the front wheels almost off the gound from the load of people. Radio said one dead and several injured from ATV accidents. Heard competition hill is covered. I'm worried about someone crashing into my van as Chiapis was a racetrack last night and the van has sand packed all over one side from spinning tires.

Just had an odd report that Del Sol Hotel has NO business. The parking lot is described as empty ????
MIRAMAR
Is it a mix of Americans & Mexicans, or are the gringos staying home?

Wow- I'm speechless! That is a whole lotta people, and it's great for Penasco. Thanks for sharing those pictures
mexicoruss
If Penasco del Sol had no guest it was nobodies fault but their own. Everyone who offered a decent price and a package is full. Those that thought that these folks would pay whatever because it is Semana Santa....well

Ja ja ja ja. Turns out the guy that told me that we just caught brokering one of the properties and screwing over the renter !! The renter came into the office and there was quite a brouhaha to liven up an otherwise slow day.

Russ,
Where did you take those pictures of the beach crowd?

Well it's almost over. Just had a call from a friend who reported there is a Baad accident on the highway to Sonoita, at the turnoff to Caborca or Laguna del Mar. The one that has hosted several other death and disaster accidents. He said there were bodies lying all over when he drove by a few minutes ago.

That's awful -- It's about time to do something about that intersection. Maybe flashing lights?
mexicoruss
We just about got hit this morning as we crossed Benito Juarez on our green light, the traffic going North ignored the stop light so I doubt a flashing light will help at the nasty intersection that like Roberto said has claimed more than few friends here

They need to remove it and start over how many more will die until they do something.
El Tiburon
That intersection can be very confusing.
GringoZona
How does the town look this morning? Just found out I have Tuesday and Wednesday free so thought about heading up either this evening or early tomorrow morning. Can't remember if any of the bars or restaurants close on the days immediately following Semana Santa.
GringoZona
Oh, and the beaches. Pretty rough? I was thinking, since we are only going one night, maybe staying at Mirador Village. Is that end of town pretty wrecked? I already assumed Sandy Beach would be, but thought maybe since the newish public beach is by Mirador, it could be worse over there.

Thanks!
Stuart
Well... as I was going to head down for Easter, I'm glad my wife conceded that it wouldn't be worth it. Laughlin was nice this weekend! Maybe in two weeks.

As I recall things this was the worst traffic. Virtually total disregard for traffic controls with little to no policing. They came to drink, drive and party and they did. Some jackass was doing brodies in the street in front of my apt and threw dirt all over the building and the side of my van. One Jack on an ATV tried to run down a neighbor's dog. About 5 kids riding an ATV kept menacing the neighbors children who routinely play in the street. It was no fun.

Hey now, be careful how you throw around the name Jack. Somebody in GV might take offense. Beat to you to it Jack!:p:p:p:p Couldn't resist Roberto!

Thanks for covering my back Melissa. Now I've got my right arm back, I'm gonna go down there and slap that
kid silly. Two weeks from Wednesday. The Green Valley Desperado is gearing up. Got all my pills and my Metamusal
all lined up. I can't wait.
