Have not yet viewed them but just spoke to a resident at Unconscious who reported that the beach there is covered with pelicans. 'Millions' he said. He had some photos in his phone and yes the beach is covered as far as the eye can see. Prolly here to use the new convention center and to celebrate the start of the Home Port. Will try to get photos later as it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
WOW! Please do try and get photos. I wonder why this has been happening so much recently? When we were down over T-Giving there were thousands on Sandy Beach - but MILLIONS? That I would love to see.
I was out paddleboarding this week. The water's so clear and filled with of billions of little fish schooling this way and that, you get vertigo. The birds are gorging themselves.
Well the last 3 large vessels built here in Salvadors yard at the marina were for Sardine cultivation.....there must be a lot of Sardines as the boats to catch them are in excess of 1 million dollars
Would be interesting to be in a kayak in the middle of that melee of pelicans !!
One of the last times out I actually had one of these trying to take my silver kastmaster with a white bucktail. It was pissing me off, $10 lure and this pelican was trying to take it. The thing got extremely close to the kayak, almost up on the front bow it wanted this kastmaster so bad. I'm out there yelling at it like a weirdo, must have been amusing for somebody. Finally the thing flew off but damn those things are bigger and more aggressive than I'd like to know about.

I was initiated into the club on my very first visit to Penasco. It was Christmas and I was sitting outside at one of the restaurants that had a deck over the sea in the Malecon. Squirt !!! Smelled like fish. Waiter came out and we had a good laugh. Fortunately did not yet have my food.
We shot video of them in mid-November. It was unreal and so beautiful -- they curled off from a vortex circling pattern like a waterfall and dove into the ocean. It was never ending. Then, it started to rain (it was cloudy). Or so I thought.... LOL Yes, PPPPOC membership gained! It's a yellowish-beige color, BTW. I'm glad I had tequila in my coffee sipper for that morning beach walk!
Also had me wondering if the summer rains and Rio Sonoyta running into the ocean might have added nutrients for the fish.
