Hi everyone, thanks for having this board. It's already been so useful for information(especially about the border). So I'm relocating to Mexico from Phoenix in the near future. Either Puerto Penasco or Rosarito Beach. I have a lot of information about living in Rosa(other boards), but not much info on living in RP, despite having visited a few years ago. My family has a condo at the sonoran sky that I can stay at while I get setup. If I recall correctly, the condo had it's own wireless internet but it wasn't extremely reliable(which is v important to me). Does anyone know if it's possible to setup hi speed internet in a specific space(do they have telnor)? Or maybe it's best to use the condo's and get an aircard for backup, like telcel or something. Also anyone use Santander, was it hard to setup a bank account there? Any info you can share is greatly appreciated.

Almost forgot, I need the internet to have a Mexico IP address not a US IP address.

Gambling website?

Correct. Have you run into a lot of online poker players down there?
Pinky
I know of a few online gamers here in Rocky Point. You should be able to get Telmex service (phone and Internet) at the Sky. My husband has a Santander account and it was easy to set up. Mexican IP is what you will get when signed up with Telmex.
Miakko
Have Telmex internet; speed is fine and no problem with reliability. Telcel USB modem much slower and probably wouldn't work for gaming.
El Gato
Some of our online poker players have their own Telmex internet and understand it is ok.

With Telmex, do not be surprised to get dumped several times a day and sometimes all day. It seems to come in spurts, fine for a week or so then, dumped 4 or 5 times in a day. I have also seen several day long outages in the past 2 years.

Thats weird Robert, I have had TelMex for 9 years now. Except for the big rain storms we had a year or so ago I have never had my internet drop. I am on it all day sometimes and I have several computers connected at any given time and I have relatively spotless service

This forum has a couple speed tests to check your connection speed...Telmex infinitum speed increases

Yes, it is odd as I know others who report the same experience you do. We have been down and phoned others who report all is well then the service returns without us doing anything. Phone connection stays intact. I have come to the conclusion that maybe the service can vary from area to area. It all goes through the phone lines which could be set up in somewhat independent districts I guess.

Do you guys live in different areas? ie one in sandy and one in las conchas. Stable internet will probably be the single most important decision on where I rent.

There is also another option in town besides Telmex DSL, it is Megacable ~ Cable, Internet y Telefonía
Their fastest package is great but on occasion when it is really windy I have seen some problems.
Miakko
We live in the center of town off of Josefa Dominguez and have no issues with Telmex connectivity.
Jim
I had the problem for almost a year. I traded the modem a couple times (when you could still just bring it in and trade it). It always seemed to help for awhile but then got worse again. In hindsight, it must have been coincidental because when I finally insisted that they send someone out, they found a problem in the line and replaced a bunch of stuff. No problems now for over a year. The salt air here is very hard on everything and the lines are no exception.
Roberto
My comments are from the Mirador area. And yes as Jim says, the phone line itself can have problems that effect the internet service. I would seriously consider the cable option.

I don't know what PDO uses but I have a lot of trouble with connectivity in the lower north 40. That's also in the Mirador.
