Well, I guess it was supposed to be a platform used to collect core samples for the planned dredging out at Sandy Beach across from the the Reef??

Well whatever it was, its turning into a submarine. Water is a bit ruff now and its not titled into the water. Happened a couple of days ago also. They worked on it all day yesterday and had it back up and level. Just began to sink awhile ago. image

I just saw that...thats expensive equipment......

Cant they pull it ashore?

Its a crazy apparatus 4 long legs that sit on the floor of the ocean, a set of pontoons that lower into the water to move it around and a huge diesel engine that turns the bit. I am not sure how they would anchor it against big waves like we have today so I think once it starts to go over its hard to handle its a crazy thing!

I was in town yesterday and it looked fine to me, didnt see anybody working on it but that was at 1030am on my way out to Cholla Bay. Water was DEAD FLAT, wasn't a fishing trip... go figure!

~ ~ ~ Why do you want it to sink ? ~ ~ ~

It kinda reminds me of the fishing platforms they built in Cholla Bay last summer.

They towed it away yesterday. It had drifted into a submerged reef. They tried towing it first with a cable and about sunk it again. (lotsa yelling and cursing, pretty good entertainment) Finally lashed it to the side of a good sized boat and hauled it away.

The scary thing is if the same guys are in charge of cruise ship garbage and fueling.

Seems to me a lack of understanding about conditions here in the Sea of Cortez. High tides and gets damned rough and blocky, right STuart ?

Not to worry Jerry, refueling in Guaymas and they will dump the garbage off Santo Thomas !

You would think hugh Roberto? It's almost as if they towed it over there and then the ~~~```Manana```Manana```~~~ phenomenon took over, no work was done and the platform sat there and took an absolute pounding.

We saw them working last Monday, the drill was running and the guys were bringing samples back to shore and a truck came and picked up the samples.

So I get why people think a cruise ship terminal may be a good idea in the long run, and I understand that it will bring many jobs to the area (some temporary, some permanent), but what is the beach and the view to the west going to look like while it's under construction and for how many years? What about construction noise? Temporary or not, it's not going to have a positive effect for vacationers in the short term. Not going to stop me from coming down, just sayin'.

I can hardly wait to get on a cruise ship! More than 4,000 people stranded on a cruise ship for an entire day after fire in engine room | Mail Online

just a few thoughts on the idea of cruises...
1. I personally don't like the big cruise idea. I prefer a smaller cruise along areas of the world I would never go to (did a cruise once around every island in hawaii on a smaller boat)
2. big cruises offer families on a budge the opportunity to see parts of the world they normally would not see
3. cruises offer groups of people the choice to do various things while on the cruise
4. the example of the story you cited shows how messed up we are if we can't handle 1 day or turmoil. makes me think that I should start Prepping and not make fun of those people on Preppers
5. I hope the construction phase is non stop in order to expedite any inconvenience during construction. I hope to not hear about 5 months siesta breaks
