Penasco looks FANTASTIC!! I watch this show all the time, and Penasco looks better than most of the beach communities they have visited- Cabo, Cancun, Carribean, etc. The only thing they're not talking about is the condo association dues. Good by Sonoran Spa- they didn't choose it because of the railing with 2 young boys- kind of agree with them on that.
If I'm an accountant in Newark right now, seeing a modern 2+BR condo with waterslides on a warm beach going for $130k, I'm Googling "Rocky Point Dan".
They took some generous liberties with the openers, showing a more lushly tropical locale, and botched the distance from Chandler as 400 miles. But solid piece for Penasco.
If I am a tour guide in Mexico I dont get HGTV (too poor) but I like the warm beach so I may not google Rocky Point Dan but I will send him an email......nice job from what I heard.
LadyJeeper - you need to look at House Hunters International - not the regular one. There was some liberty with the way they described the market - for instance, they say "the region's competitive market" - they must be talking about the drug trade and not real estate. Also, they say "supply is limited" - i'm not sure where they get that from. All in all though, it certainly can't hurt and may get people up in Phoenix and surrounding areas thinking about Penasco again. I agree with the comments about the wife - she was obnoxious - the poor guy works like a dog and just wants a view - she wants the Taj Mahal on a duplex budget.
I know...she is so bold as to say she wants to stay at the swim-up bar while he puts in his 90-hour weeks and her autistic and Aspergers kids are taken care of in a resort kid's club. Ugh. And at the end the kids both want to bunk together in the room she didn't think was fit for even one of them anyway! Not my kinda peeps, but ridiculously good piece for Penasco, warts and all. Catch it online when you can, Russ and Ladyjeeper.

He probably works 90 hours a week to stay away from her! I'm glad that they showed that both kids wanted to stay in the same room after all, especially the room she didn't think either one of them would want.

Yeah. We noticed some major attitude there. But I'm sure that Pina Colada at Del Capitan brought the intensity down a notch. (Too bad she didn't order their margarita -- that would have cured her for life!) The good news is that as a new owner in Penasco, she can hope to absorb some of that friendly, relaxed, kicked-back-happy, no-worries vibe that prevails.
Great show. I agree about the wife having a rough attitude. My wife was just happy to be able to see the ocean! I'm not sure where they got a couple of the
shots that were shown, way too tropical. Overall, a very good picture of the town!
Doesnt show it yet as it usually takes 24hrs after airing to be able to watch online. You might be able to watch on hulu plus if you have it. I will check and see if it was youtubed as well.

I caught that, but I'm guessing they meant round trip.
I heard that the show was extremely scripted as if that each were actually practicing their lines before they shot at each location. I think the gal is either a tough cookie as mentioned or the show scripted her that way. From some friends who know the show, the producers script and train the candidates on what they have to say. It seems from watching that it might be the case.
Also, because Dan the realtor was the choice of who would represent the deal, from my understanding he could not show other deals that he didn't represent. So, limited availability and properties available.
Personally I thought that they did a terrible job of showing RP. Every shot from the balcony of each resort was from the furthest location along with it being extreme low tide. It looked like the ocean was 8 miles away.
And, when they went to Del Capitan they gave no credit to where they were, the history or anything else. Pretty weak. I wonder if Del Capitan expected more? You'd think the producer of the show would create goodwill by naming the places and people they met while filming their show.
Dan the realtor did a great job. He's not a scripted guy so he went along like a pro.
A huge miss in my opinion for what could have been a great shown. But like they say, marginal publicity is better than no publicity at all.
RPLarry, it's a half hour program with commercials - meaning it's 22 minutes of actual footage There is no such thing as a real reality show, they all are scripted in one way or another and then heavily edited - so they storyline they made was to create a nightmare of a wife. I think they did a nice job showing the town - it's not like Penasco has buildings like Allendes or Guanajuato. At least they didnt show any of the hulking rusting empty condo shells that are dotted all over the place.
I've heard it both ways. The name of the place is Casa Del Capitan. I, for one, shorten it to Del Capitan. But others shorten it -- more appropriately, I suppose -- to El Capitan.

I thought it was great to show PP as an affordable beachfront town and it might inspire those who are unaware to visit/buy property. I just wish they showed more of the area instead of the grumpy wife! Piling up a cooler with water bottles? Montezuma's revenge? Mispronouncing Peñasco? And the editors should have caught the 400 mile mistake. Um...doesn't anyone fact check?

Yep. You listed the points at which I, too, cringed while watching. Hopefully those inaccuracies were overcome by the overall depiction. Penasco is getting on the map, though. I also -- within the last day or so -- saw a piece on the "Osprey Nest House" in Penasco -- I think it was on "You Live In A What?" That depicted a luxurious, beach-front home, which gave balance to RE opportunities in the area.

This house is being featured on HGTV Extreme Homes airing Sunday 2/17. Hopefully they get all the info correct this time.
Cool that they featured our favorite beach town, but what city is that at the 2:15 mark of the video? Definitely not PP. There was a another shot that didn't look like PP either. Overall very good for tourism though. Those re-runs show all the time on HGTV.
