Great 1957 article on Cholla Bay, but the whole magazine is great!

I think the article is on page 16..195710 Desert Magazine 1957 October

And like my folks who came down to Cholla Bay in a Woody from Torrance Cali in 55/56, none of the people in these articles had a GPS.

how did they have any fun without Pigeon Coops to live in,gps to show them the way,the internet to keep them tied to the world.....we seem to have it easier but live at the edge of a semi-dead sea, rush from one BS appointment to another and simply lack the ability to filter the flood of stuff coming our way...1957 Penasco is OK with me.

I acquired a GPS well over a year ago and I did use it just to see if it worked, then put it in the console. I did pull over and use it one time in Cali late one night when I thought I might be going in the wrong direction after going through some construction going between Perri's and Victorville Cali. OK, I pull off the freeway and get the darn thing out of the console, pluged it in and then typed in Victorville Cali for directions. The voice said "turn around and turn left on the first street". I said, "thanks, that's what I thought", and put it back in the console.

I had to check the GPS on my way to the Malecon yesterday. I thought I took a wrong turn but I did not after all. Boy was I relieved!

Here's a pic of my grandfather when pancho villa left him in charge of the area, this was taken in 1922! Those are customs agents in the background,001.jpg

Us kid didn't get to go until we moved to Phoenix that next year because they didn't have a GPS. LOL You've seen some of the pictures I've posted of our boat and my dad and uncle at Cholla from their first trip; go find them.

That was an awesome article - thank you for sharing . It reminds me of how much we love to hunt for "treasures from the sea".
