Went on a Fall camping/fishing trip with my good fishing buddy Joe “Triggerman” down to Puerto Lobos on the east side of the Sea of Cortez. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, the light winds made for very comfortable fishing aboard Joe’s 16 foot aluminum Klamath boat “Sunrise”.

Here is the “Sunrise” ready to head out for a full day of fishing.

Here’s Capt. Joe driving his boat out to our first spot where a big Grouper broke me off on 30lb test on my first drop with the iron. Ouch!!

I just wish I had been using 100lb test to have a better chance at getting that brute of a fish to the boat. I never hooked another monster fish during the rest of the trip but at least we had a blast catch a bunch of fish each of the 3 days that we fished.

We ended up catching a total of 17 different species.

  1. Leopard Grouper
  2. Spotted Rose Snapper
  3. Amarillo Snapper
  4. Panama Graysby
  5. Amberjack
  6. Yellowtail Jack
  7. Goldspotted Sand Bass
  8. Spotted Bay Bass (mucho)
  9. Triggerfish (mucho)
  10. Orangemouth Corvina
  11. Bonita
  12. Barracuda (mucho)
  13. Halibut
  14. Sculpin
  15. Giant Jawfish
  16. Rock Wrasse
  17. Cortez Grunt

Joe and I had another memorable and fun trip down to Lobos and we can’t wait to do it again. Thanks again to Tom Alber’s for letting me and Joe hang out at his house during the evening with his fun and good time clients from Arizona. If you are interested in taking advantage of a very cost-effective fishing trip, you should definitely give Tom a call at 602-526-3343.

Till next tide…HOOK-UP!!

Man!

You guys caught a nice ole mess of deliciousness!

Boy o Boy... the schoolie yellows are in early this year. Let's hope their Brutus relatives are just a few days behind...

Were you guys slow-trolling the crocodiles, or casting and winding?
jerry
Great pictures...Bulgarians? At Santo Tomas we have Romanian,Thai,Pilipino,German Australian and Mexican Americans that own houses or lots and a lot of renters seem to be from foreign soil. I think the "men with guns " and mordida astuff doesn't bother them as much
Stuart
Awesome, Vince! My 1st boat was a Bayrunner like Tom's. I really miss that boat sometimes. Rugged as hell, easy to launch, great fuel economy. But, if the seas turned and the wind came up, you'd get pummeled in it.

Glad you had such a good trip!

Nope. We have some Russian friends and they couldn't care less. They've lived with that all their lives.

Great report. Thank you for sharing.

Boy, that cloud cover had to be nice. Easy on the eyes!

For me, a trip like that close to shore with an abundance of fish, sure beats a long haul for the big boys at the bottom!!

Congratulations on a fun couple days.
