The power of the sea is unbelievable. You just have to plan well and hope and pray you don't get caught in something like this. I grew up next to Lake Michigan and while the Great Lakes are not anything like the open ocean, they can be dangerous and unpredictable. A good example is the Edmund Fitzgerald going down in Lake Superior with her crew of 29 men back in 1975. Landshark, Great shots. Glad I wasn't on that thing. I grew up on Lake Erie which is the shallowist of the Great Lakes. It too could be quite treacherous.

I was once on a 48' Kris out on the lake, entertaining customers and a storm came up out of nowhere and man we ducked into Sandusky Harbor right now.
The guy damn near tore up the boat trying to get docked and we all headed for the bar.

I have never done it, but I have heard that a cruise on the lake oar boats can be a great experience with great service and excellent food. No casinos,
at least back in the day.

I had one bad experience out there and do not wish to do it again. Did go through a typhoon on the way back from Okinawa and that was quite a ride.

I remember how fast storms could develop. One minute it was a beautiful day, and the next you were racing for the harbor. There was a breakwater and a pier at the harbor entrance that caused the waves to go crazy in every direction. Just when we thought we were home free, we would hit that. There were times when we didn't think we were going to make it. I was too young to drink, but I threw up anyway.
