Another Diver Dies

Puerto Peñasco, Sonora 03September 2012 38-yr old Gregorio Anguamea Jiménez lost his life at about 14:00 hours Sunday after sufferingdecompression while diving in the Sea of Cortez in the area known as La Pinta. The victim was harvesting scallopsand upon surfacing experienced difficulty breathing. He was rushed to thehospital where he later died.

Very sad. Dying for a couple hundred pesos worth of scallops.

I doubt if the diver made that much. Grinding poverty makes for desperation. If the boat owner and or captian were held responsible, it would change things, I think. Yeah, yeah, damned government regulation.

It would be interesting to see if any of these guys are using dive computers (even older ones). Hell, even dive tables on a laminated card. Sad and usually preventable.

They would violate and dive computer on there first dive and them it becomes a gauge.

They use nothing but a air compressor on the boat attached to a tube to them.

When you talk to them about how they dive the take great pride on how long they stay down and how deep they go. You have to remember this $$ driven and not how dangerous it is to dive the way they do. They also do not take a stop as they come to the surface. If they would take 15 min @ 25 or 30 ft before commijng up it would
save many lives. Tell them how to save themselves and they will not listen.
Such a shame to lose these hard working wonderful people .
