This is huge! Boomer Fest will happen on Sandy Beach next May in Penasco. The performers which could include Bob Dylan, Santana, CS&N, The Beach Boys and a long list of others will be finalized next week. I have an almost final brochure for this Rockin' good time, but can't figure out how to attach it here so send me a PM with your email address and I will sent it to you. This will really put Rocky Point on the map...BIG TIME!!

Thanks, Dry but this isn't the latest version of the brochure. Someone, please walk me through the process and I will post it.

interesting - seems the previous events have been in new england area. any idea who the promoter is?

Well, these two last bullet points in the "old" brochure told me everything I need to know. Call me a doubter, but 24 bands with the likes of Bob Dylan, Santana, Crosby, Stills and Nash and the Beach Boys? Hmmmmmmm. Kind of pushes my skeptical button just a wee bit.

PS - On the brochure, how come there's not one picture of a Mexican (other than the mariachis)? Another hmmmmmmm.

X2 with the joester -- who is the promoter and do they expect the event to make money?

Hey, even though I'm a little skeptical, I do think it would be a great event for Penasco if it happens as said!

Anyone see anything odd about the map? Never heard of La Frontera Oasis and since when is the new road to the Mayan done?
Kenny
Didn't anyone notice who's on the motorcycle in the middle picture? That very well could be from the movie, On any Sunday.http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xghmhj_on-any-sunday-1971-part-1_autoDo you think he'll be there too?

Hey Kenny, I have tried to respond to your post regarding Steve McQueen which hasn't been posted to date; I'm sure it's due to my electronic illiteracy. Notwithstanding, Steve's Triumph Bonneville may be showcased in May. Parenthetically, that's the same bike Dylan crashed back in the 60's, I believe. Sorry for the demonstration of age but it helps to explain my excitement for such a great event in such an extraordinary locale.

Oh, I can't wait either!

Can hardly wait for updates - have quite a few people I'm suppose to keep up to date on the Boomer Fest! So anything okayed to print appreciated.

A ton of years ago, on the old Playa Hermosa terrace I noticed a guy sitting very quietly all by himself - he really looked familiar. Like Steve McQueen - same smile. Heard later that he had been in town. So I always wanted to assume that it was him. Would be nice to have his bike here, and maybe his ghost would tag along :)

OK, Russ, you've had 2.5 hours since the presser started, let's get some info! ;)

Right, it's the same graphic. Russ said at 11am today they were going to have a press conference at Las Palomas, with another press conference in the states on Friday the 14th.

Geez James, the press conference lasted 2 hours and it was kind of fun.

Event will be held May 1st - May 5th 2013 The site encompasses more than 55 acres in and around Sandy Beach.
24 Music Headliners and Comedians from the 60's 70's and 80's

Preliminary events include a celebrity/sponsors golf tournament April 29th and a Sport fishing tournament May 1st

Boomerfest has already made arrangements with every booking agency and as such when someone visits the Boomerfest website www.boomerfestdays.com they will be able to book their rooms and buy their tickets at the same time. Lodging will consist of Hotels, Luxury 2 and 3 bedroom condos, villas There will be an onsite camping area that can handle 12,500 campers the campers will be able to walk to the festival with no problem. There will also be luxury tents set up that can house up to 4 people. The whole area has been surveyed and plans are made to landscape and install lighted walkways connecting the various aspects of the Festival.

There is no release of the artist currently signed but 80 % of those contacted have made a commitment and Boomerfest starts making deposits next week to secure the artist. These are major artist not fillers. They will be releasing the artist as early as next week once the Mexico Tourism Board makes their announcement this Friday in Los Angeles.

The website will start to get populated continuously this week. So check back from time to time. The picture below is the Boomerfest team. This is no small deal. I will post their responsibilities and where they come from later.

Did they provide you with any materials? Any contact info for the promoter?

Russ: Thank you so much for all the information. Talk about WOW!!! factor. I haven't heard of anything like this being held elsewhere. My guess is that most homeowners will discover they have a LOT of friends and family they just might decide to come visit the first week in May. Good thing there are going to be a lot of extra tents set up. And wonderful news for the rental agencies that they have been included. Hope they have a linkage on the site (especially to Rosie) for obtaining car insurance. Rosie better get a lot of sleep in during April :)

Again, thank you for keeping us all updated. Look forward to the list of headliners. Any hints?

Henry A. Altman | LinkedIn Roberto, you asked about La Frontera Oasis. The guy, Henry Altman, putting on the show ( Boomerfest ) owns it. It sounds like it might be in the ejido Tobiyori, just south of El Golfo.

Geez, I wonder if $400 includes staying in the tents and assumes you are living on the grounds (ie showers, toilets, etc). Hopefully there is a day pass cost for those that are staying off the grounds.

If the real cost is $400 just to attend, they better book the Rolling Stones, Elton John, the Eagles, and Elvis Presley. I am not sure Santana with CSN will bring the kind of crowd they want for those kind of bucks!

So if I'm a legal resident I get half off, but I'll have to pay full price if I'm not? I like the concept but is it safe to go to Rocky Point with all that rain?

Why doesnt the city start to focus on appeal before gathering a mass of first time visitors?! Let's start by painting graffiti, picking up trash and tearing down all this damn rusted chain link fencing. It's amazing that nobody takes pride in the city but everyone wants people to see it. Seriously, think objectively, what would you think if you were a first time visitor? Broken boat that sat there for 7 months, rusted out chain link fencing bend over and overall just looking like absolute sh!t, graffitti and trash everywhere. Hire some people, pay them the highway robbery mexican wage of 10 pesos/day to walk around cleaning sh!t up. When I bring people down for the first time I have to do way to much explaining, some might even call it BULLSH!ting. Trying to sell people on how nice this place is, on how much we love it, we do love it but the place looks like hell right now, especially over by the resorts!

I would love for this event to be as advertised. Rocky Point needs some high profile events to keep tourism active and growing. That said is it reasonable that anyone would drive to a foreign country and spend 10 times the price of a single concert to see some of these acts in the desert? Most of the proposed acts are actively touring the U.S. and can be seen in air conditioned comfort at an arena or state fair without driving 4 hours or crossing an international border. The touring industry is in the dumps with many acts having to play to smaller venues because of low demand. When your pricing is far above established festivals such as Coachella ($349.00 2-day pass / $750.00 2-day VIP) and Lallapalooza ($230.00 3-day pass / $1050.00 3-day VIP), the organizers have a very large uphill battle to pull this off. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see this become reality, I just think they are over-reaching for a first time event. What Rocky Point does NOT need is to be in the national spotlight for an event that never comes together.

Been awhile since I've been up that way but I seem to recall that area was pretty much up and down country or estuary? Unless it bumps right up to El Golfo. Weren't there a lot of Ejido problems in that area no too long ago? What do you know Carnac ? Thanks for the info, I was and still am curious.

Jerry ought to like this guy he's in the Stand Up Paddleboarding stuff !!

Hajirobertobab, it is all up and down(I mean as in cliffs) after you leave El Golfo. I have been thru El Golfo a few times in the last couple months and have'nt seen any development at all. This seems hokey, like a few years ago when Jimmy Buffet was supposed to put on a show in San Felipe, or when I lived in Mexicali and the Kevin Costner, Robin Hood movie hit the theaters in the U.S. so the theater in Mexicali had Robin Hood on the billboard outside the theater, so I told Fabi "lets go see it" It was Robin Hood alright, but I think the star of the movie they were showing was Erroll Flynn. it was from the 50's or 60's, I didn't get to see the movie we left. May a love starved fruit fly invade your sister's nectarines. The acts will all need work papers here, and by the time Hacienda gets done wacking they're pay with a huge income tax, they might wish they had'nt signed to play. When I won the money fishing in the Bisbee Black and Blue, they wacked me for over a third and they dont care about your expenses. Hacienda will make the promoter pay the tax, before any money leaves the country I'm sure, unless they take care of it in the states. There has'nt been any development yet in El Golfo because of what you mentioned, all that have tried have been screwed out they're money. Also in Lopez, we are what is called the shock absorber for the Pinacate reserve and they try to limit what we do out there, a little, but El Golfo is a different story, I think a huge development may not fly in that part of the Reserve. In Lopez, years ago the reserve told us they didnt want any hotels or monster size houses or businesses.

They have'nt been able to pay the city workers for over a month now, there were 100 or so in front of the muni office the other day and into the night. They are broke.(the City). There was a newspaper article a week ago that said the city was 300,000,000.00 in debt. 300 million pesos.CODIGO07.COM - Heredará Ayuntamiento de Puerto Peñasco deuda por 300 mdp

So does this mean when I come down I can hire 5 locals to pick **** up for 8 + hours for $35? It honestly might be worth it, and Im broke! How does the city collect income? Sales tax? Income tax? Bed tax?
