Can any one identify this?

We saw hundreds of these this week off Encanto and assumed they were jelly fish. But they were hard to the touch and I can't find any info online.
Any one know what they were?

They seem to show up about this time every year and if you watch them closely, they not only putt putt themselfs (propel themselfs) around, they seem to be aware of each other and form little groups. Someone came up with their name, but I just call them putt putt's.:-D They feel a little like overset hard Jello, don't they?

Appears to be a cannonball jellyfish.
Forgot to say, a panga came along and they were harvesting hundreds of them with nets. Apparently they are processed and shipped to Asia as a delicacy.

OK, then there putt putt cannonball Jellyfish... Say it fast three times and spit for good luck.:mrgreen:

I just spit when jmcd said the Asians are eating them. Those folks will eat just about ANYTHING
