It was kind of interesting when we crossed the border yesterday. Let me preface this by saying that a few months ago I left some bacon in our cooler (we had brout the bacon with us down there) and got a long winded lecture about it by the guy who found it. That being said, yesterday as I drove up to the check point, before the lady even took our passports she said "Richard?" and I replied Yes. I was shocked she had my name even before she saw the passport. I have to guess that the system is sophisticated enough to take my license plate and do the crossreference automatically?
She never asked us if we bought anything, she just went strait to our cooler asking if we have any fruits, vegatables or.....bacon???? Maybe I am on the bacon smugglers list now.
The funny this is, we had about a half package of bacon left when we left RP and being the rebel I am I had it at the very bottom of the cooler under everything else including the ice, water etc. When she said the word bacon as she open the back of our Durango I muttered "you gotta be sh_ttin me". Fortunately she didn't see it. I just had visions of being in jail with other smugglers and someone asking me what I was in for...
As I have said in the past, I think the US border agents have many ways to access, track, and record information about us. It would be unrealistic to think they don't. I have been giving away any forbidden items before returning to the US. As much as you hate to give stuff away, it's very rewarding to see how much it's appreciated.

I have been asked where my dog was because he usually go with me. And he is big. I read about Sea Products on this site. Went there to buy shrimp. Great directions. Still had to go down to Old Port for Talapia and Halibut. Lots of good ideas here.

I might have mentioned this in another thread.....but when we came back in Feb over Pres day weekend, I claimed the extra tequila I had purchased. I was prepared to give it up and then they asked me about fruits or veggies. I always end up with extra limes and have never been hassled about it till this last trip. I received the secondary inspection. They didn't give a crap about the tequila. So when they asked me to produce the limes, I couldn't find them. I was sure I packed them. The older lady that wanted me to hand them over said..."well if you cant find 'em, you must not have packed 'em. Have a safe trip" HAHA
Hi All, this is a little off-topic, but just to let you guys know they're paying attention. 3 weeks ago when crossing into the US, the guy asks me to lower the back windows so he could peer into the car. He saw a box of ProAlliance/RP Ramblings coasters I give to bar owner friends and asked, "Are you the Rosie from the forum? I understand I'm supposed to call you if I have a problem in Rocky Point". I asked if he reads the forum and he said he's not the only one.
Now, granted I'm a little easier to identify, and I did have the coasters with the Call Rosie stuff on them, but thought you guys might be interested to know we are not alone.
If Customs and Border Patrol officers are in fact watching this site, I say thank you for your service. You have a very difficult job in very difficult times and with very limited resources. Personally I would not sit in one of those border crossing booths unless there was a police sniper on the roof. Arming you guys with handguns is a joke. WOW..and to think... all I was trying to do is smuggle 5 pieces of Bacon. So I have learned a lot. 1. The customs folks probably read this forum and if they take the time to figure out who I am I will be on the watch list for sure so..no more bacon smuggling for me. 2. Even TALKING about Bacon brings out the worst in people 3. Don't buy a condo, especially if you like Bacon. 4. If you are Mexican (or maybe even Chinese) you might get shot if you like Bacon and you're near the border. 5. Us Americans are some of the most enthnocentric people in the world when it comes to protecting our Bacon.
As a side note, we actually did live a couple blocks from Hammer (M.C. Hammer at the time) when he built his huge mansion in Fremont Calif. His nephew played Pop Warner football with my son and they are still friends. Although he went bankrupt years ago he has made a comeback of sorts and is back making the big bucks.
