Hey everybody... with the rising cost of gas, now would be a great time to head to Rocky Point before the price gets too high and you can't afford to go at all...

look on the bright side of things, gas is cheaper down here, so you would be able to go back to the other side at anytime, if you really wanted too... (don't know why you would, but you could, if you did)

We will be there in two weeks. I am already thinking about how much it going to cost to get us down there. I also thought about the cheaper gas down there for the way back.

I have to go visit up North and I am dreading it. I will fill up here and maybe extra.....I am so glad to be here ! Its worth the cost for us to go visit the grandkids though so no more complaining from this guy
MIRAMAR
Yes, when gas here is $3.50, and you can buy it for $2.99 in Rocky Point- I say one more reason to go to Penasco!

$3.50 is a steal. It's $3.80 in my neighborhood!

We, too, will be down in 2 weeks. I'm just gonna put enough in to get to Sonoyta and then fill 'er up! Gonna fill up in Sonoyta on the way back too!
MIRAMAR
Sonoyta is more expensive than Penasco.

Good idea! I will have to figure out how far I can make it before refueling. What's the price difference between Sonoyta and Penasco?
IggyAZ
Boy is the price of gas here in west Phoenix gone up over $3.699 and I'm sure it will be mor ein a few more weeks when I head south.
I only need a half of a tank to get to RP and will fill up there. Whatever the price is it will be cheaper in RP.
AZ ROB
$3.89 at 83rd and Northern this morning...
rockyptjoe
$4.05 for diesel...59th and I-10 on Tues.....that's about $1 per gallon more then in Penasco last trip down...time to find a 55 gallon drum again???
joester
whatever gas prices are, it's always worth it to head south to Penasco.
I check this site in Az before I go to fill up - if I can save a couple bucks without going out of my way too much, I will. Phoenix Gas Prices - Find Cheap Gas Prices in Arizona
btw - thinking about coming down Memorial Day weekend - anything going on?
will discuss with the ladies ;) this weekend....

Always something going on this is Peñasco ----right?

Both my vehicles are good on gas and will easily make it on a tank and still have enough to drive around while I am there. Fill up in PP before we leave and I usually get better mileage coming home. Guess my cars like the mexico gas better. But I agree with joester 100%. I'd pay top dollor for gas here for a few moments in paradise.

Funny you should say that, I seem to get better MPG with Pemex also in my 88 Pathfinder, but the real reason may be that I returning home with a much lighter load on most trips. :cruisin:

I'm am never lighter coming back....Too much good food and drink. OH !!! you meant what you are hauling
Now that I think about it, it may be because I'm not trying to get home in a hurry.

Me too, I usually get 200 miles out of a tank of American gas but get almost 240 on Mexican.

I wonder if it's due to American gas containing 15% ethanol. Engines require considerably more ethanol than gasoline to run correctly. So, I assume the vehicle's on-board computer would richen the fuel mixture, or supply more gas to the engine because of the 15% ethanol. This would cause a reduction in gas mileage. I'm only speculating here, can a mechanic jump in and clarify?
Ladyjeeper
Well, that would make sense since there's no ethanol in Mexican gas........
rockyptjoe
Are you sure about the ethanol? I thought Mexico got it's gas from the US (they ship us the crude).....do they have any refineries? Someone (Jerry?) had posted a link to an article about the plant generating ethanol using algae ...I recall that it was for use in the Mexican market. Maybe I'm wrong???
tequilatodd
Mexico does get fuel from the US, but the ethanol is added at the distribution center. So like Mobile gets 250,000 gal of fuel at depot and before they fill up the tanker trucks to deliver to gas stations, that is when the add the extras.

Mexico could probably start putting in that Cheap "Mescalito" that comes in the little plastic jugs you can buy for about 10 pesos... it's also good to use for cleaning coins and clearing clogged pipes...

Man!!!!!!! I wouldn't touch that stuff in my darkest hours. I'd soon sniff model airplace gule.

it could... but I don't think it leaves the arteries in any kind of good shape... you might need to eat a couple pounds of tortillas to clog the holes the Mescalito leaves behind... BUT... As an added bonus it clears your memory too...

I have the same problem. My wife thinks its a shopping spree. "let's get the retin a for grandma and call it a trip woman!"

You mean Bacanora, Mark? That stuff will make you go blind!

No... I'm talking about the stuff that comes in a little clear plastic jug... most liquor stores have it within arms reach of the cashier, maybe that's to keep the street vermin that drink it from being able to steal it...

That's good stuff Mark...after 3-4 shots of that, it tastes just like Don Julio!!! Hell of a lot cheaper too. Super Ley used to carry it, but now they have some other brand of Mexican "rot gut".
