Ximena tested and fitted for hearing aids in nogales

Maria and Ximena came by bus from Puerto Penasco to Nogales, We came by car from Maricopa. Thursday morning we went to St. Andrews Church, were there were probably 200 kids lined up for medical help (all with appointments). After about 4 hours we were called back to the mobile hearing trailer, we went in she was tested and found to have some hearing, she responded to noises equivilant to a slamming door, car horn or a siren, so that was some good news. She will be given hearing aids in March, but still will need the cochlear implant. The doctors donated everything, no charges at all.

One of the pictures, is Ximena giving the thumbs up, she did that after they fitted her for the hearing aids, on her own. We had a great trip. The man in front of the trailer, is the brother of the owner of La Roca Hotel in Penasco, he is retired and donates his time also as an interpreter for the doctors.

Thanks Bill (and Fabiola)....no problem with the border crossing? I heard from Maria last week that she had to get all sorts of stuff (ID for Ximena, etc.) last minute. Will she have to go back to Nogales again in March?

We do go back in March, no problems crossing at all. I also stayed in Nogales, Sonora and came right across, Thursday morning. Maria and Ximena crossed with 1 day visa's.

If I would have gotten that McIntosh MC 275 amp I wanted in the summer of 1970 I'd be signing up for the Cochlear too! http://www.stereophile.com/tubepoweramps/704mac

Thank Jerry, I heard maybe 5 more trips to Az. for them.

We've got another Kids Day Party scheduled at La Esperanza Para Nueva Vida community center tomorrow after the first food distribution of the New Year... Barb is out looking for the papper cups to make cupcakes for 100 children... if you're in Rocky Point and would like to join in and lend a hand with the food distribution or help out at the party afterward please contact me or be at the center at around 9:00am Saturday Jan. 07 2012...

If you can't find the paper cups for the cupcakes you can use ice cream cones to bakes the cupcakes, adds a different twist that the kids will like.

Joe, we need to have Blanca ask them about the implant. I thought that was the plan but I;m not sure now.

I agree...I'm also confused....the communication has not always been the greatest. If you don't have a chance to talk to her before then, I'll be down next weekend, and will touch base with Mark and see if I can meet with her. I can get in touch with Maria on FB too...and she should be able to find out.
