Be sure to stop by the local Farmers Market this next weekend in the courtyard behind the restaurant Don Julios on Freemont and Sinaloa. The day should be pretty fun with local foods and local artist sharing their wares. Its free so you just need to stop by and see whats up!

That's great ! Will the market be weekly? I'm hoping it will be open on Dec 31st.

I am not sure but I think they want to run it on a regular basis but not sure about Dec 31st

What are the times? Tks

I believe it will start at 10 am Saturday or 11:00 and run all day until about 4-5 depending on the crowd. This is the first one so it is a test for future events, it will be fun though for sure! My wife Naomi is presenting her "off the beach" crafts so we both will be there.

Went by the 'Farmer's Market' about 2. There was one booth with some fresh produce in boxes like from Super Ley and one booth selling shrimp. Probably another maybe 20 booths mostly arts and crafts. Some stuff redundant with the Old Port but a lot of different stuff too. I saw maybe 10 people who might be classified as customers and many more working the booths. The participants must have had parking lessons from the shop owners at the Malecon as it appeared the vendors had hogged the parking nearby requiring those pesky potential customers to park a block or so away. All in all it seemed OK for a first effort, but not a Farmer's Market, certainly an Arts and Crafts Market. They needed some live music and maybe a food vendor or so. I was hoping for some asparagus since it's in season or maybe a sack of oranges but I'd go again.

Roberto with all chasteness and respect that is due. I was with Naomi all day at the farmers market. We had food from Don Julios delivered to our booth. We had live music which was loud enough for everyone to enjoy. My wife sold more of her sea-debris goods than at other events in recent past. It was well attended from about 10:30 - 1:00 then a lul for a while so thats when we ate then it got busy again about 3:30 until she wrapped up and we got out of there about 4:30. It was a great event and put together at the last minute. I will post some pics once I get them up. The next one is slated for January 7th 2012 and there will be more vegetables and fruits and seafood all together I am sure. A snippet of time does not an event make!

All I can say is what I saw. I did not and could not report on the success of the event. Glad it went over well. Nothing wrong with making it an arts & crafts deal if that works. I was laughing about the parking though . What was the cost to attend? I have a son making jewelry he may be interested.

They only charged 20.00 to have a 10x 10 it was a success. The next one I am sure will have more locally obtained groceries but as for the farmers coming I dont see that too soon.

I was at the Farmers Market around 11 and there were at least 40 customers all carrying bags of things that they had bought. Food was being served and flute music was being played. There were a few vendors with the normal Mexican items but most vendors had unique things to sell. Russ, Naomi had some amazing items. She is really talented. The one produce vendor had a good selection of fresh, quality items. I agree with Roberto on the parking. All in all a great success, especially for being the first one.

Was that 20.00 dlrs 0r pesos. 20.00 dlrs sounds a litte high for a local.

If you feel like a drive every Saturday morning in E griega they have a swap meet with a lot of farm products...basically because they have a lot of farms....really good melons, corn, peppers, fresh eggs, cheese (goat) and 2 midget chickens for 70 pesos or so...

Just curious, are there many "street fairs" throughout the year? I'm always working on a way to develop a business and earn an income in PP. I've had this same idea for a while now and think I could make a go of it, or at least get it off it's feet, if I use the "street fair" as a launching pad. Any ideas, comments, suggestions?

Its a great idea and a personal opinion is to include as many as you can into the planning process and that may include some of the local city administration. If they are kept in the loop it makes your activities more successful imho. PM me and I can give you a partial list of who may be able to help organize the street fair concept. I love the idea and it could be something.

you could also do a version of Tucsons "Club Crawl"...the guys that put that on..jeb and bear make fistfulls of money..

At the end of the article they give the name of the organizers of the event, that could be a start
