If it's an election weekend then yes, it's true. No alcohol sales from Friday through Monday. Stock up early.

Chances are you won't have a problem even if it's a dry weekend. I've been to various spots in Mexico during dry weekends and never had a problem with drinking the beer/alcohol I purchased before the ban goes into effect.

Call the city hall to find out if there are any elections if you're concerned....I just posted above that I checked with the BooBar manager, and there is no election this year, at least not in Puerto Penasco or Sonora.

OK, but is there an election this year on the 4th? Check with some place like the Boo Bar, they will know for sure. Please post here and let us know if there will be a dry weekend this year, what with an election and all.

Beachgirl - Brave because of the heat? I was there last July 4th and didn't think it was too bad. Labor Day - now that was hot.

I guess it depends if you can buy beer that weekend. Roberto is on his way to the Boo-Bar, office of tourism and the Mayors office to check this out. He will be back to report ASAP.

I just discovered that the 4th of July has been cancelled this year. We will go directly from the 3rd to the 5th, there will be no 4th in the month of July. This was mandated by FEMSA because thre is a shortage of Tecate this year and they don't want the tourists to be disappointed. The day will be made up later in the year to insure there will be 365 days in 2011, but it will pass unannounced, so for example there may be two September 16's this year. They are hoping no one will notice the one day calendar offset in Mexico between July 3 and the make up day. Makes good sense to me.

Brave because you won't know if the sound is a bullet from a cartel shootout or some fireworks mis-aimed from the beach!!!:stir::rofl::moon:

mis2810 - that's exactly what I mean. We were there last year as well and didn't find it bad at all. But it took some convincing to get certain people to "brave" it and come down, and then they found it wasn't as horrible as they imagined it would be!!!! I didn't find Labor Day weekend that bad either.....maybe I'm just gettting used to it or I tolerate it better down there than I do anywhere else, LOL!!
Roberto, you crack me up!!! And Joe, shame on you........you're going to make people think that it's unsafe to come to Rocky Point........

Julie...that's why I put in the smileys!!!

Years ago I used to go down for a week at a time during the summer months, including August....and didn't even have air conditioning.....just find a shady spot (or bring your own), hose yourself off...and stand in the breeze.....perfect example of evaporative cooling!!!
