Okay folks, I spoke with the officer who oversees the SAGARPA office at the Sonoyta border crossing and he assures me that 3 turkeys per vehicle will be allowed into Mexico. The key here is that they must be in the original packaging and marked by the USDA. In addition to the turkeys, up to 15 kilos of ham will be allowed (also packaged). No beef whatsoever. No fruits, vegetables or homemade foods. Looks like you won't have to hide the turkey under your socks, James!
He told me they actually caught someone trying to bring live turkeys across the border. Obviously that is a no-no.

Thanks for getting the info. Wonder if they will be selling turkeys at the stores here - and, if so, how tender they would be? Also need yams/sweet potatoes. When I find them here they are really great. Of course, we need cranberry sauce and stuffing makings.

That is easy they always ask us if we have over 10k in cash , weapons, where we are from and where we are going. But sometimes they x-ray my truck.
