Fished the Labor Day Billfish tourney in San Carlos. We tied for fourth, but could have been tied for second if we hadn't had 4 fish come unbuckled on the last day... aye, aye, aye... it was a GREAT time! Will try to post details and some pix of the fishies tomorrow. I love San Carlos, but wish the drive was as short as Penasco! Still hot and muggy there, but a very good billfish bite. Also some dorado and small tuna around.

Did you happen to notice how was tourism down there for those land-locked folk? Good traffic at the local bars and restaurants?

How long of a drive fron RP? Were you able to use the new highway for some of the trip?
Stuart
SC6.jpgsc5.jpgTourism was good for the weekend. A lot of Mexican tourists, but a fair amount of gringos diving and in town for the tourney.

Drive is about 7-8 hours from Tempe. No, didn't use new highway. Too much out of the the way. But the desert was greener than we've ever seen it right now. Amazing, they've had a lot of rain and it looked like a spring time trip, not late summer.

Pics are here.

Here's a teaser!

I miss San Carlos! How did the Dulcecita lures work?
Stuart
Our first 2 billfish ignored all the baits and went directly for my lures -- the pesoleros. These are a lure that looks like a petrolero, but has polished Mexican pesos for the eyes. I left one with our "other" Mexican capitan because he knew it was the bomb! I've got some pix... somewhere. :cluck:
