The concerned atver would be helping the turtle hatchlings get back to the Sea if he or she would ride at low tide or not at all on the beach for a while...San Carlos Forum has pictures of the babies stuck in tire ruts

It is not a good policy to discuss where the nesting takes place as it has the potential to generate a lot of unwanted human intrusion in the nesting areas. Vehicles on the beach, people stomping around, the unscruplous taking eggs or hatchlings and general idiots smashing the eggs for fun. Those of you living nearby keep mum. Best to love them, not know where they are and leave them alone. I mean how would you like it if a bunch of wolves came to your house to check you out and crapped all over your living room, bit your children and made a general nusiance of themselves ?

I totally get that - I worked with the Sea Turtle Monitoring Network in St. Kitts for several years so I understand the difficulty when people get involved with the turtles!! We saved hundreds of them over the years - amazing critters. Just didn't realize they nested this far up the Sea of Cortez. Is there a monitoring network in Rocky Point? Thanks!

The guards seen them come up to hatch and contacted CEDO and they told them what to do. The first hatching we watched them come out and head direct to the beach. They have many miles to go for cover to live is my understanding. CEDO took the second hatching to the aquarium in Las Conchas to raise and set free at some point in time.

Many years ago the Playa Encanto beach (before houses) used to be one of the biggest hatchings areas. Everyone was so excited to see it and it was a great thing to stop riding on the beach.

Like Roberto said, leave them alone. We have not seen any more since then unless CEDO is keeping it hush. That would be great.......

We found this little guy stranded up at the high tide line late one evening over Thanksgiving. Looked like the Gulls had worked him over; carried him down to the water, but he was tired-out, the waves just rolled him up and dumped him.

So, my daughter took him up to our place for the evening, kept him warm. I got up around 4:30 and swam him out about a half mile and let him go. He was paddling pretty good. Probably made a nice breakfast for something, but what are you going to do when you have kids. Turtle Pic.jpg

Thank you so much! Sounds like a wonderful organization -
CEDO is one of my favorite places to take folks on one of my tours. They have been active for well over 30 years and they educate young and old alike about so may things that would could never know otherwise. Be sure to visit them and donate a touch too. They are awesome!

I was told the turtles went to the aquarium at Cet-Mar in Puerto Penasco, they kept them in tanks, the turtles were released by the Mayan when Cet-Mar felt they could survive by themselves. Cet-Mar is located on the road to Las Conchas. Like Mondone and Russ said, you need to see it.....

Plenty of turtles and sea life at Cet-Mar, last time I went there it was closed for renovations, Cedo is about 2 miles away from Cet-Mar inside Las Conchas.

We had a batch hatch out two years ago in Playa Miramar-good place for them as there is no riding on the beach, a small amount of people and no commotion.
