The Caliente sportsbook has closed! Apparently, they could not survive the impact of the Mexican government's law to limit institutions taking American dollars. This was intended to make money laundering difficult but has instead claimed my favorite place in RP.

Oh the sorrow!

Why do so many of you insist on naming your posts like that? That is no better than the US news media trying to grab attention by running a misleading headline.

Cartel's going to be claiming a few more, Semana Santa = Copious amounts of Bud light, Cocaine, and cheating on your gf and wife at the same time.

Sorry about that Jim. I guess it was a poorly worded headline....

It is however an unintended consequence of the governments fight against the cartels. Over 3/4 of the money that flowed through the Caliente was American dollars and they could not stay in business with only local action.

Install an ATM and get pesos to bet with. Americans can use pesos too! There must be more to it than just american $

It's doubtful in my mind that is the real reason they closed. There is a cambio half a block down the street and one across the street where American folk could change dollars to pesos. The customers could stroll over there or owner could even send a runner.

No more exchange rate signs posted in the banks. Why?

The one on Fremont and Sinaloa has rates posted (across from the Pemex).
