Haven't seen much about the Malecon progress since a couple of January posts and was wondering if they're going to finish in time for the Carnaval parades, or at least by next weekend for the Spring Break traffic. Last pics I saw still showed the area unpaved.
We were there until last Friday, and the Malecon is unpaved with huge mounds of dirt and big holes blocking the side streets. It wasn't bad, and I would have to say it's actually better without the cars parked and traffic going through. Parking wasn't really an issue because the free parking lot to the right as you come down the street is still available.
Word is, that they wanted to be ready by Spring Break, couldn't do it, but will be ready for Easter Week, which will be REALLY busy!
