Yesterday (Sunday) around 5 PM I was leaving town on the road from Sandy Beach by way of the big rotary and came acoss a road block with police everywhere. They were directing traffic around some incident that seemed very bad since there were masked police with automatic weapons and spectators everywhere. Also on the highway home at least 5 black and white police cars with lights flashing were heading south to PP. Anybody know what happened?
Gary, the incident on Samuel Ocana you saw was a shootout between marines and sicarios (hitmen). There was another shootout in town late yesterday between drug gangs on Simon Morua (the ace hardware street). After dinner we were driving past the naval hospital about 6 oclock there were police and marines everywhere. Just found this after my original post www.numerounoonline.com it has a couple of videos at the scenes.
The bodies continue to pile up, but Lazaro Hernandez Bravo basically says "It's as safe as ever. There's a low rate of crime and we've always had a few bodies showing up here and there, we don't know why, but this shows we have security. Please come visit!"
I think Janet Napolitano has been mentoring and coaching this guy! Unbelievable.
Incidents like this are the ones I fear the most. I have no worries about about anybody targeting me directly, but here you have a group of sicarios racing through town in a Ford Lobo being hunted down by the Marines and bullets flying. Doesn't take much to innocently be in the wrong place. You're just as dead from a bullet that didn't have your name on it at all.
Interesting how the Marines put a white hood over the heads of the cartel guys. Also interesting to see them give the cartel guys a good swift kick and jab with a rifle butt. No love there, for sure, and no ACLU to make the bad guys seem like victims!!

The big rotary by the Circkle K? Or the rotaries around Las Palomas?
As dis-hearting this is and I am very sad to hear about any trouble in what I am considering my second home. I drive thru south Phx every day going to and from work at 3:30 am. This is nothing new to me the diffrence is it happens alot more in Phoenx than Penasco...

Rob? First, I understand your love for Penasco. A given for the majority of us here. But, please take a moment away from your rainbows and unicorns to consider the following:
Here we go again with unrealistic comparisons. If there were armed Marine troops chasing and shooting down bad guys anywhere in Phoenix, we'd be in a whole stinkpot of trouble up here!! That doesn't happen in Phoenix, period. Yes, police bust bad guys, but not our Armed Forces. When the Armed Forces get involved, you've got what's known as a state of war.
You fail to recognize one other thing -- you say it happens a lot more in Phoenix than Penasco. See explanation of "it" above. Second, take a moment and consider that not more than a few short years ago, this kind of thing didn't happen in Penasco at all!! We're hearing of more and more drug cartel/mafia/whatever-you-want-to-call-it shootings on a repeated and rapidly growing basis. The threat is growing, not subsiding. Unlike the Police Chief, shot late at night on a dark side street, the more recent events are happening in broad daylight in very public places. Do you not see the problem with that? I see a problem with that for my family's safety and the safety of all the people of Penasco.
It is getting harder and harder to defend the safety of Penasco to my family and friends.
Being that I own at the Sonoran Sea I travel those specific areas that are being mentioned.
I hope they can get this under control.
Rob? First, I understand your love for Penasco. A given for the majority of us here. But, please take a moment away from your rainbows and unicorns to consider the following:
Stuart, take a moment away from your increasingly hysterical and constant forcasts of doom and gloom and take a deep breath. Why do you feel you always have to jump on any bad news and repeat and amplify it. You usually start off with something like "As I've been saying....". We know whay you've been saying, you really don't have to repeat it ad nauseum. You really don't add anything other than to repeat you warnings. I'm starting to picture you with a long black beard dressed in a black robe predicting the end of the world..
Here we go again with your unrealistic comparisons. You really cannot understand and interpret events and circumstances in another country looking at the world through your US glasses. The armed forces in Mexico have been called out to reinforce and support the local police in their duties, not to make War. Travel around the world and see that this is not in any way unique to Mexico. Land at the Rome airport and you'll find military armed with automatic weapons standing around. Every other street corner in Egypt has armed military on it. I hazard to guess that almost every third world country and many others typically use the military to back up and reinforce the local police when necessary. These are not war zones. What you do have in Phoenix is a highly trained and well armed police force, probably moreso than the military in many countries around the world running around town and shooting it up when necessary. The US has a strong prohibition against using the military to enforce the laws, goes back to the revolution and the Hessian mercenaries that terrified the colonials and the stupidities committed by , for example, the National Guard at Kent State, where they were called out to support the local police, not make WAR. Many countries do not have this strong prohibition.
You fail to recognize one other thing -- you say it happens a lot more in Phoenix than Penasco. See explanation of "it" above. Second, take a moment and consider that not more than a few short years ago, this kind of thing didn't happen in Penasco at all!!
Yeah, right and no one in the US used to lock their doors years ago either. I'm sure if you find some real oldtimers in Phoenix they will regale you with stories of how bad things have gotten, how there was no crime, how they used to leave the keys in the car, how there were no drugs, how there was not a murder or two every few days. Now of course you will point out that this has nothing to do with Penasco. What it means is that Penasco is becoming more like Phoenix that it used to be.
We're hearing of more and more drug cartel/mafia/whatever-you-want-to-call-it shootings on a repeated and rapidly growing basis.
Yeah, the US news loves that story. They all start off with "Over 30,000 people have been killed in ....".
The threat is growing, not subsiding. Unlike the Police Chief, shot late at night on a dark side street, the more recent events are happening in broad daylight in very public places. Do you not see the problem with that? I see a problem with that for my family's safety and the safety of all the people of Penasco.
The "Threat" as you put it might be growing, might not. Of course shootings are a problem, do you think you have to point that out to us. Of course I just live here, 24/7 so what could I possibly know about life in Mexico. I don't relate a lot of what I know happens here because you in the US take things out of context and interpret with that effete snob "we know better than you do" attitude and then correct our perceptions. Mexico is a different country, with different ideas and attitudes.
What is the purpose of your repeated warnings? You seem compelled to respond negatively to any post that indicates the poster is not worried a lot.
Well gotta put on the old Kevlar and dodge the bullets on the way home. I've been practicing my drop and roll movements, hard on the old body. Oh no, that happened when I had too much tequila !!
I just wanna point out that there was another member of the forum that was finally banned for constant negtive responses to other's posts. This was pointed out to Stuart who thought it was OK so he did not participate in the Ban.
I'm not trying to make anyone mad, or make light of the event, but last month outside my son's apartment in Tucson was a multiple shooting and death and in my daughter's old apartment in Tempe was a killing a couple of months ago over a laptop (3 weeks ago she said she could hear bullets outside her house). So even though I see the Marines chasing hit men in Penasco, to me it's like the FBI going after narcos here- there is a drug problem everywhere. By the way, my hubbies relatives back East are afraid to come to AZ because they think there's a problem- perception is everything.
Here's news from the AZ Daily Star today from yesterday (Sunday- low news day):
Hector Sotelo Jr. was shot and killed Sunday night near Irvington Road and Sixth Avenue and police are still looking for a suspect.
Just after 10 p.m. Tucson police received a 911 call reporting shots heard in the 300 block of West Kentucky Street, said Sgt. Matt Ronstadt, a Tucson police spokesman.
Customs and Border Protection officers say they’ve seized nearly 5,000 pounds of marijuana from a tractor-trailer hauling green tomatoes into Arizona.
A man was shot this morning at a midtown apartment complex, Tucson police say.
PHOENIX - More than 3,500 people have been arrested in Arizona on suspicion of driving under the influence over the past several weeks.
3500 dui's...maybe if a rental agency in rp was able to get all these peoples names, offer them condos and 2 for one happy hour deals for the 6 months their license is suspended it could be a win win for all

Roberto....I won't go into a detailed discussion on where I may disagree with you OR Stuart.....or point out the obvious that you have opposite opinions of what is happening, just will highlight the one area I wholeheartedly disagree with you. Mexico IS a WAR ZONE....the government of Mexico is at war with the cartels for control of the country, which they don't seem to be winning! If you can't see that, you might want to clean your eyeglasses!
Holy Crap! A rose by any other name is still a rose! Bottom line is our little town is trying desperately not to become a Nogales...or a Tijuana...or a Ciudad Juarez, and there are those that want the town bad! Is it a war or a skirmish or drug dealers having a bad day? Who cares what we call it. RP is struggling for survival...and I hope they win. But I don't think the bad guys are going to go away easily. It's not in their nature, so this stuff is gonna happen. We all need to be very careful, but not give up on our town...a fine line indeed.
Gary, the incident on Samuel Ocana you saw was a shootout between marines and sicarios (hitmen). Hey Las, any idea or info on how the Marines encountered the bad guys?
Gary, sunday around 3:00 we were headed into town from ejido Las Lagrimas, the 3 vehicles in the video were headed north just past the Hot Point Hotel when I passed them there were 2 in front of each pickup(2) and 2 in the back and the bigger truck had about 6 in the back when I got to the intersection south of hot point I glanced at my mirror and they where hangin' a uwee. Probably 15 marines. I think with this they will start cleaning up Penasco. Last week the marines out near lagrimas set up a road check and made several dump trucks hauling dirt and gravel dump parts of their loads to check for weapons and dope.
I need a pair of the rose-colored glasses Roberto wears. Put your fingers back in your ears and keep singing "La-La-La-La-La-La" as loud as you can. Marines in firefights with anybody, in any city, in any country, tells me that my safety is at risk! What part of that do you not understand or disagree with?
As for comparing me to Sub, hardly. You'll find that I post far more positive about Penasco than I do negative. Consider me the voice of reason to those that downplay the serious nature of these events, one that you cannot "shout down." You, sir, have a very vested interest in promoting Penasco and maintaining its image as "family safe vacation place." So do others on this forum. Don't even try to deny that. Doesn't matter to me one iota that you live there.
I, on the other hand, have no vested interest in either side of the equation. I come there, spend my money, go fishing with friends and generally have a good time. The same thing I've been doing for more than 25 years. Consider me the "typical" tourist. The one you want to come to Penasco, to fall in love with the beach, and invest in the property you make a living selling there.
This same thread takes place every time a major cartel shooting or bust goes down. There are those that see it as yet another red flag and those that insist "nothing to see here, move along, safe as it's always been." Try being honest with yourself and your motivation for a change, Roberto, instead of trying to tear down those that see it as a red flag. The nature and frequency of these incidents are getting worse, whether it's bodies being found along side the road or out and out shootouts between the military and the bad guys. It is a war and despite what you personally may think of me, I do indeed want the good guys to win. However, I refuse to gloss over the seriousness of what's happening.
You have no idea how many people I'm in contact with that ask me, as if I'm a know-all, see-all, if it's safe to go to Rocky Point. I tell them that I have gone recently and plan on going again soon, but honestly tell them that there's been some pretty bad stuff happening and they need to be aware of it and take precautions -- don't drive at night, stay in the tourist areas, etc., etc. Certainly not very reassuring to a family that just wants to go spend some fun time at the beach.
No need to shout Joe !! You get your information from the Media, right? If the US Media, every outlet all across the US, reported every shooting and murder in the US, every day from all over the country, every state, every city, every town and repeated the total number of shootings and murders that occured over the past 5 years every time they reported a new one, the US would look like a War zone. There are incidents like this that occur in Guatemala, San Salvadore but you don' t hear about them. Why is that Joe. Because the US media is not interested in reporting the news, they got an attention getting roll on Mexico violence that garners the eyes and ears of the lazy media dependent US audience and therefor high ratings and more advertising dollars and they are gonna stick with it. Did you ever notice that the stories on each news from different channels tends to be the same stories, little variation? Why is that Joe? Because that's all the news or the most important stories? Why? Because they do not like to be scooped so they share their story list. They think that the personality and looks of the anchors and reporters is more important than the news! Take a look at the history of news reporting and world events and you will begin to see the picture. Millions were slaughtered in Africa with barely a nod from the US media.
Your perception and interpretation of the problems in Mexico are distorted by the constant hammering and distortion of the media. Mexico is in no way a war zone. Most of the country is quiet and peaceful. It is unfortunate that Calderon picked up old Tricky Dick Nixon's WAR against Drugs to describe the efforts of the Govt. against the narcos. Note that the US govt has officially discontinued using the War On Drugs terminology.
Now you can say I have my head in the sand or use Stuart's Unicorn terminology, but in reality believing something is much worse than it is will cause you to make errors in judgement just as much as ignoring a problem. The errors will probably be different of course. If people could take off the Sh*t colored glasses that the US media puts on them, things would be a lot clearer. The problem is bad enough without a cheering section to make it appear worse.
The response to Stuart was directed at , what I feel at least, is his repetitive jumping on people who don't see things as bad as he does. Rob, who got the most recent load dumped on him, for example, is an intelligent guy and has the right to his own perceptions and opinion and not to be insulted about them.
Stuart sez;I need a pair of the rose-colored glasses Roberto wears. Put your fingers back in your ears and keep singing "La-La-La-La-La-La" as loud as you can.
Whatever Stuart. I'll mail you a pair !! Earplugs from a station tuned to local all news stations are just as effective in blocking out reality.
Yup... right where they all end up! :deadhorse: :deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:
AZ Rob -- If you felt I was attacking you personally, I apologize. Not the case. I was attacking an attitude and idea, not you, because it's a typical response every time something like this happens.
Let us stop the bickering and return to the story. Does anyone really understand what took place outside Circle K on Sandy Beach and then in town on Sunday?
Are there other links to this story in DeFrente or anywhere else?
Read the true book...God's middle finger into the Sierra Madres". As long as the drug cartels are in control and a lot of people in Mex itself can't fight back because of fear of what will happen to them or their families, it isn't a safe place for families. We had visitors here from out of the country and a Mexican person (from Mex) told them to only cross the border with a large group of people, in daytime and NEVER take a baby there.
I'm in the Phx area but I actually got it from a library to read.
Bummer, not much here and I don't go up across the border anymore. Too scary up there for me! Guess I could put out the call to the sons or check out ABE Books. thanks anyway.
More raids by marines yesterday in RP in the Brisas del Golfo area if you read the comments after the pictures www.numerounoonline.com there are posts from citizens telling where there are killers living. Sunday was the begining of the end, when the people of penasco get tired of starving to death and start working with the marines it will be over. This months Join Us magazine has an article about the poverty in RP 27,000 residents at or below poverty levels.
I know the guy who wrote that book...total poser...made half the book up...bad tipper at the Time market according to someone that deals with the character and hates him.
Stewart, much like Henry the 8th fretting about the danger from King Frances when he should have focused on his gout my bet is that is your greatest personal threat isn't some stray gangsters settling scores....it's the bacon wrapped shrimp on your plate!

The next dead, fat, white ,semi-alcoholic Fox news watching tourist will be the first by my count...my Concern is if all this new action has something to do with the "new" development money coming to town....

You don't get it, do you Jerry? The FIRST one will be the LAST one. I've said it before and I'll say it again -- when an innocent tourist gets killed (be it a libturd fag like yourself or some Fox watching neocon, since you CANNOT leave your politics out of anything you post) that will truly be the nail in the coffin of tourism in Rocky Point. Let's hope it's not a child. That is my single biggest concern.
If you could READ, COMPREHEND, then POST... you would see that I was just there before Christmas and plan on being back within a week or so. It's not so much my personal safety I worry about, but I'd find it impossible to forgive myself if my family or someone else I'm close to took that stray bullet. But yeah, you go ahead and kick back. No worries for you.
I've been kind of hoping to hear Ric chime in here. He and his wife were at their home in Penasco and could hear the gunfire. I heard that his wife was pretty freaked out about it, understandably so.

I need to shout so that the people with their heads in the sand can hear! Most people can differentiate between what is happening in Mexico ( a WAR), versus the normal, run-of-the-mill violence that we have in the states! I don't consider firefights between large groups of people with automatic weapons, grenades, firebombs, etc. as something normal. I don't consider a whol;e town controlled by a cartel, and cut off from the rest of the country as "normal" violence. I don't consider several people being beheaded and left hanging from overpasses or bridges as normal homicides. Yeah...I admit...you're still dead.....but it's the type of violence that bothers me.
So keep sticking your head in the sand...that stray bullet may still hit you in the ass! You can always quote statistics to support why you shouldn't be dead!
BTW...I still plan on being in Penasco this coming weekend....but with the recent activity...will be even more aware of where I am....

Simple answer - YES, BECAUSE IT IS JERRY AND THIS IS NOT THE 1st TIME HE AND I HAVE HAD THIS DISCUSSION! I have flagged Jerry time and time again about NOT injecting his liberal views or taking every chance he gets to slam conservatives in everything he posts. Yet he insists on doing it. Nobody mentioned a damned thing about politics in this thread until Jerry came along. He does it with 99% of what he posts. Have you not seen posts of his that I have BIG RED LETTERED for exactly this reason??
You know how they used to lash people and hang people in public?? It doesn't seem to work with Jerry.
Call me what you will, except late for dinner, Roberto. You got problems with the way I run things around here, take them to Tyler. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and please STFU.
Well as I understand it, this is Tyler's list and I am asking him for an opnion here as to the appropriateness of this attitude and language. I'm not gonna stoop to childish name calling but if Stuart want me to STFU I'll say goodby.
American hostages are being held up in the mall with a wanted killer right now, the entire mall has been on lockdown along with building in the area (all over CNN and local news) I don't know how the area will recover from this devasting news!!! I don't know how any american will be able to visit this mall that happens to be in a near afluent area.... Wait this is happening at Chandler Fashion Square mall, in Chandler AZ. Sorry wrong forum to post the dangers of Chandler Fashion Square mall.

Ha-ha-ha! Yeah, I heard that at lunch today. Perhaps they'll bring in the Marines to shoot the place up so that everyone feels more secure.
Man what is it about navy guys calling people fags lately?I personally have never called another forum member a bad name...but hey who cares...my point is the anti-mexican climate in the states might come back and bite us mexico fans but so far so good. The worry warts need to quit acting like such a bunch of little girls about this battle between Pepsi and Coke for the right to sell their products. The drug business is great for mexico and the United States. The cartels just need to settle these issues and start slinging the dope we Americans can't get enough ..hell Tucson stores were full of Sonorans spending money on Christmas crap.......

No no more than usual......Sale of drugs, remittance from mexicans working in the US and oil are keeping mexico from collapse. It really works and will be a needed source of income for the next 20 years or so...everyone knows nothing will change. We just need to have a peaceful business climate to float all boats.
Very nice Stuart, they make a very appropriate signature for you !!
The problem, the real problem that Saint Stuart is having right now is that someone had the audacity to disagree with him. It's not about Jerry's politics at all. It's about Stuart having his shit coming out sideways, and in all directions, because it's just not supposed to be that way on HIS one way street.
He's had this same hair up his butt before, but his sh*t was directed at me in a inappropriate and mean spirited way that time. I responded in kind, pointing how he had forgotten to read the post I had responded to, and his tirade toward me was..I'll just say misguided. He fixed it though. He took down the whole thread!!
Stuarts right about vested interest's having a effect in the way some people respond, or don't respond at all about the escalated violence in PP. It reminds me of the BLANK spot a lot of you same people had, and still have, about the past administration's theft of your money. ( there ya go again LOL ) Dry Heat is a perfect example of someone who's main driving force is his $$ and vested interest's in PP. He admittedly only stays in one of his places here infrequently, very seldom post's here any more, but pop's his head up now because the things being said in this thread could hurt his bottom line. His post was his way of trying to make some of you sound silly...That be you Stuart, but you were so busy with the boy's, it went right over your head.
Check your thought process when leaving Mexico nowadays. Is the feeling of leaving Mexico and being back in the USA replaced almost immediately with "I can't wait to go back" like in the good old day's with a big sigh of relief?
Well, after all that does anyone have any additional information on exactly what happened on Sunday? Such as how did the Marines know the guys were hit men and etc.

Gary, they probably have informers just like all law enforcement, but how they really knew they were sicarios is something they probably would never release. I dont think it was a random stop because of the u-turn I mentioned before. Another thing to compare what is happening in RP to some crazy bastard in a mall is ridiculous unless you really dont understand what is happening here. Every killing here that involves sicarios is a planned out business decision and not intened to affect anybody but the target. Including the police chief (once a public official takes money they lose all repect for him and he becomes one of their flunkies and also becomes depensable) why would they call him away from capones to a desolated area if they weren't concerned about some public safety. You need someones permission to kill here you cant just run around wacking people. if you wack the wrong person your gonna get wacked too. The last people they want to hurt is us, that is obvious they have a 0 kill on gringos so far, but I do understand an innocent victim getting caught in a crossfire. The real danger to us is in our own minds. Whether we like it or not in more ways than one they are running the show in Mexico now. The government will weed out the bosses that love to kill as they have done the last couple of months and let the quiet ones keep working to not completely ruin a great source of income.

Here is the story as has been reported:
The five bad guys (four now arrested, one dead) were after a guy who was also armed. The young man (later determined to be only 17-yrs old) was on Simon Morua and running for his life, carjacked a car from a bystander (someone I happen to know). The bad guys gave chase and apparently caught up with the guy, took him forcibly from the car he'd taken and then they took him with them. In the interim time, someone had already reported the carjacking and subsequent car chase to authorities, so the marines responded quickly. The marines caught up with the five bad guys and their captive (probably also a bad guy, by the way) on Samuel Ocana. Shots were exchanged and the driver of the Ford Lobo lost control and hit some parked cars before coming to a stop. One of the captors was dead at the scene, either from the wreck or a bullet (my guess, bullet) and the other four were detained. The young man who was trying to get away was injured but not dead. No more to report on his condition or whereabouts. I can tell you that neither the arrested nor the injured remain in Penasco.
Rosy - Any truth to this? I was told that "they" (meaning the narcos) hung a sign on the main drag by the footbridge saying something along the lines of: "Release our guys or we will start shooting school children." I was also told that the schools have been closed all week because of this.

That rumor ran rampant through town on Monday and many people did, in fact, go take their kids out of classes. So many, that classes were shut down due to lack of students. The whole thing was a hoax, though. There was never a banner on the sign. The rumor was traced to an attention-seeking instructor at one of the schools. Kids are currently in classes and the idea of closing the schools has not been considered.
Neither local government nor law enforcement can do a thing to release those being held, and the narcos know this. Those people were removed from Penasco by the marines and their locations remain undisclosed.
In an unrelated note, yesterday there was a huge press conference on the steps of the police station. All available city department heads joined the mayor in a ceremony delivering new gear to the police. All available police officers were also there. One would think that if there was any threat to their safety it would have shown. Nothing happened, and the only shots fired were photographic in nature.
1/5/2011 -Simon Morua??...... no, Chandler Fashion Mall
The cops over-reacted in this particular sitation.....they had one reported gunman....and wanted to try out their toys....err..."hardware"....ya think????
My homeboys from Tempe there in the pic don't take kindly to deadbeats shooting at one of their own. I'm surprised Sheriff Joe's tank wasn't there! But yeah, lots of finger-pointing today about how the whole situation went down and was handled. It's obvious the agencies involved need better internal communication. The mall itself needs better emergency planning. On the bright side, nobody was injured or died, although it wouldn't have upset me if the bad guy got killed. If you're stupid enough to shoot at the cops (US Marshalls in this case), you deserve what you've got coming.
...wanted to try out their toys....err..."hardware"....ya think????
Just like the Border Agent told me when they X-rayed my boat with their new fancy schmancy X-ray truck --- they have to use it or they lose it. If YOU had an armored vehicle like that, wouldn't YOU want to take it out and play with it now and again? I would! I'm glad to see my hard-earned dollars paid in City of Tempe taxes at work!

I think that money, and other like it, might have been better spent on keeping up the dam at Tempe town lake.

Kenny....different pots....different sources..... How often do you see that big x-ray unit used at Lukeville....I had the "pleasure" of it when they were still testing it out yuears ago! Now you rarely see anyone pulled over to get x-rayed....more waste of money.
Stuart,
A few days ago I was in a wonderful city and we decided to take our family shopping. Suddenly a crazed gunman started shooting the place up. There was a chaos and people were almost trampled getting out of the mall after police ordered an evaculation and lock down. Outside were heavily armored police and tanks...nothing short of a military zone was assembled. A police sniper (dressed in black garb) took cover near my car and asked me and my children to get on the floor. My family was terrified.! If you haven't turned the on the news, I want to tell you the country this happened in: USA. A city called Chandler in a state called Arizona. I live there. Watch the 5 o'clock news and tell me you don't see more violence happening in your home state.
If you read the news articles on that Chandler "violence", the overwhelming police response was partially because they thought the individual was another person who was wanted and had previously fired at DPS officers. There were shots fired by THIS gunman, with a handgun, but no one was injured. Probably some of the tactical response by the police (armored personnel vehicle, etc.) was boys wanting to play with their toys....IMHO! If you live in the Phoenix area, I'm sure you've seen Sheriff Joe's armored car out there for no justifiable reason.
A lot of the discussions on this thread have been around the TYPE of violence that is happening in Mexico....not that there isn't violence/crime in the states. How often do we have police chiefs or political officials assassinated by multiple gunman? Was there a shootout in Chandler between several heavily armed criminals with automatic weapons and our own soldiers, with hand grenades or firebombs being used? I'm sure Chandler's SWAT (or equivalent) were there, armed to the teeth....but did we have a shootout with bullets flying everywhere?
I really believe that we're comparing apples with oranges in discussing the cartel violence and violence/crime in the states. BTW, I was raised in New York City, where back in that timeframe, we averaged somewhere around 5-7 homicides every day. Different type of crimes and violence.....there was never any concern that I would be caught in a shootout between many gunmen and a bunch of cops!

<sigh> Another cheerleader. You REALLY don't want to start this up with me, especially on your 2nd post, newbie. Trust me, you don't. How many headless corpses did they find at the Chandler Mall? How many mutilated bodies along the roadside? I could go on. It's because we have the ability to quickly respond to events like the one at the mall that we don't have the headless corpses and body counts that they do south of the border. You should be thankful that good men stand ready to do bad things to those that would hurt you or your family on such short notice.

We were actually pulled over for X-Ray back in August........It was a Friday evening, around 8pm. We had a couple blue water barrels and our kayak...... It took a while, but we finally got on our way!

Listen Chief, I'm a newbie on these boards...but far from a newbie in life. Here's some more sense less crime headlines from today's news that you might want to coerce into a phoenix fear campaign:

Talk radio is scary! I bought myself a LLOYD's vintage clock radio tape player for Christmas on ebay-$24.99. Even though it's made in Hong Kong and old, it's still much better than the Chines crap at Wal-Mart. Anyway I thought I'd check out talk radio. You know, something to listen to before bed and being a left leaning but middle of the road on more than a few subjects, I was looking for some balance. Heck, maybe even some truth.LOL All I found was hard right propaganda. I looked all over both A.M. and F.M., and that's all that was on the airway's.
....aperri, you may not be new to life, but more than a few walk thorough it in a daze. I'm beginning to think you just might fit that scenario. Stick around, and time will tell.
I used to have a shortwave radio that got stuff from all over the world. That was fun late at night.
Art Bell http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Bell was great! Do you remember him? He used to keep me awake late into the night with some of his guest's. One thing about Art was that no matter how crazy his guest's were, he always treated them with the uppermost respect.

What's the difference if the bullet comes from a group of narc runners or 1 crazed gunman....a nine year old girl lies at a morgue tonight in Tucson as well as 5 other innocent people....
Look I'm not saying that this drug war is nothing to worry about...because it is. But Rocky Point is not Juarez, at least not yet. Hence there is no need to press the panic button...as the level of overall crime is still below the city that you probably live in.

Daze: only on those afternoons when I step out of your trailer ;)
