Very few bikers due to Malecon under construction and the lack of security from
the corrosive elements and sand with your bike over a few nights. Some bikers were
complaining about rust pitting on their chrome. Also the "Gringo Tax" imposed by merchants, can tend to get out of hand with pricing of food, beers and drinks. Sandy beach condos are also shunned upon due to the distance of the events and possibly sand drifts on the road making it hard to see at night. The bikers are favoring the hotels on the mirador and in town. However reservations have to be made by mail to lukeville. Passport issues, bad press, hassles with customs over due child support or petty traffic warrants and the high costs that these days few have at their discretion to spend... attendance will be down again. Laughlin NV on the other hand is poised to make their Bike Week the place to be seen. With the new bridge to Vegas opened, the truck and
rv traffic will be non existant in Laughlin. You can bet the political higher ups have told
law enforcement to lay off the bikers this time or you won't have a job next term. Havasu did just that with attracting the spring breakers, just that the drinking age in
mexico is 18...just my $.02
I've received numerous emails from friends who were here last year asking about our hours and specials etc. Everyone that I have talked to sounded very excited to come. Only one group said they couldn't come due to a wedding they have to attend. And it is the 10 year anniversary. Don't buy into the negative press - on the news or on this forum.
@Kenny @Ladyjeeper Believe it I've attended the RP Rally with my Triumph speed triple 3 years past, This is
what i'm hearing from fellow bikers... laughlin or RP. myself never been to laughlin rally but been to sturgis.
Hey!! Ask the bikers like i do.
But... I will be down there the week after camping on the beach, just this time without
my Triumph, just the yamaha dirt bike. I love RP and have been going down there since
1977 and will continue to go as long as the USA permits me.

Sounds like a little "backpedaling"......
I just wonder whose bright idea it was to have it the first weekend of Nov. when it's been the weekend of Veterans Day in the past????

OK....I'm not a biker.....but the more I thought about your post, the more that the "BS" sign was going off in my head.....
Some bikers were complaining about rust pitting on their chrome.....give me a break....4 days of salt air is going to cause chrome to get rust pits?????? Spend some money for charity, and have the XX girls/Firemen give your bike a wash!
Also the "Gringo Tax" imposed by merchants, can tend to get out of hand with pricing of food, beers and drinks....and Laughlin will be any cheaper?
The bikers are favoring the hotels on the mirador and in town. However reservations have to be made by mail to lukeville......Just checked one of three hotels located on the Mirador...the El Mirador...and they have online reservations....with a secure web site.
hassles with customs over due child support or petty trafficwarrants.....OK....I will admit I haven't been crazy enough to go back home right after the previous 2 Bike Rallys, but US Customs had extra lines set up for the rally participants (those on bikes) where there was a cursory check of your paperwork with no input of license plates into the computer....so how are they to verify that a biker has outstanding "child support" or traffic warrants? And based on this comment, the inference is that MANY bikers are in this situation....that is, having outstanding child support or traffic warrants......
Thanks Joe, you saved me the trouble. Yep, for some reason they wanted to paint a negative picture, and I don't care how long they have been coming down, they went the extra mile to try and do so!
Good job picking that 'report' apart. I like to do that too, especially when it's a published report in the news. I had a lot of fun with one TV news director some time ago when they published a bunch of misinformation on their web site about Tubutama. Keep up the good work.
If I am correct, there are quite a few more bars in Calle 13 or/and Mirador Beach, than in the Old port and if bikers are worried about getting their bikes dirty then do not go to the malecon area and AZDIVA you are full of it when you say that reservations have to be done by mail to lukeville, remember we are in 2010 and the internet works anywhere now, wait there are far corners in Greenland that do not have reception yet!!
I also seriously doubt that they will give out any free passes for DUI's in Laughlin. Just ain't gonna happen in the States. They tend to be much more open minded here. The business owners and the Penasco city government really do understand that we have to be nice to tourists if we want them back.
Hey I watch Sons of Anarchy weekly so as an expert on Biker culture i can safely say they all have warrants out for them,a love for trailer parks, old ladies that are porno stars, guns and more guns ,drugs and more drugs, daily fights with strangers on the street, battle mexican gangs and seem to eat very grease filled breakfast items at 3 in the morning....hey it sounds like a natural fit with Rocky point!
I wish they had the Rally over Vetrans Weekend as well. I was told in June it would be that weekend so I made other plans for the weekend of the 6th. I really wanted to go the only thing that worried me was the possibility of sliding the bike in the sand when I hit the asphalt oh and the thought of having to bring down an extra tire for after the burnout contest...
I've been to nine of the ten biker rally's. Yes, the numbers are down but it still one of the best weekend parties of the year. Camel Toe is fun with the bikers riding in and out of the bar. Calle 13 is a good place to hang out. The most action is all day is in the Old Port. In years past the stunt riders did there gig in front of Black Dog. I can't wait to do it again!
I just hope the city's poor planing construction on the Malecon don't discourage bikers from coming next year. I can't believe they are focusing on the damn sidewalks and left the streets looking like crap. Today I seen the workers filling in all the holes and trenches with dirt and sand. This makes it very dangerous for the bike riders. I think this is one of our top 3 draws for tourists. I am a bit disappointed the city didn't think this one thru.

I think that the way things are planned and how they are worked is a major problem all over the world, specially when the "city" is doing the repairs/remodel, if not just look around your own town, in Tucson most of the time you have 5 workers talking and laughing next to the only one working!! so it should not be a surprise to any off us when this happen in RP, at least you see the majority of the workers working.
Is that an oxy?sp morron "workers working" only if refering to government workers!!
I left RP yesterday at noontime,. Wednesday, and was passed by no less than 100 bikers headed down. A lot of bikers are in construction which seems to be picking up. This time I agree with Russ. Give it a break.
According to one of my friends related to all things Penasco....no fewer than 900 bikes crossed Sonoyta today and over 200 on their way down from Baja CA Mexicali and San Luis, it will be a great weekend for the bike rally! They expect the numbers to be greater tomorrow!
:coldone:well lucky for us who depend on bike week it looks like your wrong, already having a great turn out for a thursday lots of bikes rolling into town and means only more tomorrow, hope everyone has a great time despite the negative press we get
Things look pretty good considering that it's still early. Yea, Camel Toe looked good last night. lots of bikes pulled into the Del Sol at the end of Calle 13. I could hear the rolling thunder through the night. It might not be the biggest yet but it surely will help out the local economy. Beer, food and lodging at least.
We went with friends to Playa Bonita for sunset and drinks and the place was packed like I haven't seen it in a long time. The band was playing oldies rock and the crowd was dancing like crazy (I think it was dancing) it was fun but alas I am not into the crowds that much and we left at about 8:00 and people were still pouring in. FYI My son was in the Malecon listening to a band and he said it was packed downtown as well! It will be a great weekend for the local businesses for sure
Yay for Laughlin. That's where I live and I love it here except when it gets to 140 F. in the summer every few years. HOO Ray. this summer was tolerable. It's getting close to perfect and there's hardly any tourists in town. OOH RAW!
I just woke up from last night. Holy Crap!!!! The place was packed. I have never seen so many people in the Malecon in my life. Wrecked at the Reef was jamming and it is Randy's 50th Birthday today. If your still in town swing by and buy him a drink. back to bed.
We were at theMalecon yesterday and the city had made it bikers only for parking and riding along the fish market. The place was packed with people leaving only a trail open for the bikers to ride. The bars were full with bead throwing for a peak at the boobs. Every one was having a great time. I hesitate to guess but there had to be over a thousand bikes there. Some wild garb on a few of the biker women with open tops and cheaks showing.
This had to be a very profitable weekend for the city.
There was great presence of police and every one in the crowd, we saw, was behaving well. The city did a great job of management of the activities and the crowds. I would have to say to any biker that has not been here for this" COME ON DOWN".
No doubt abut it, a successful weekend. Don't know what kind of numbers people will come up with, But I think thre were as many bikes lined up in the Malecon yesterday as ther ever have been. Everyone happy and having a great time. Talked to one guy down from Colorado and he said Penasco is the best rally and he attends the big ones up in El Norte. Way more fun here.
I am estatic!! Turnout good, Good Times, although I had prior engagements...I would have joined the party. Next year definite.
Let's see some pix posted, Sincerely Azdiva
I live in town away from Las Palomas and I heard the band Mogollon from my upstairs deck, it sounded good even though I live miles away. It was a great turnout and the guys and gals I talked to said they will be back next year and I think a whole lot of others will be too once they figure out they are being scared for no reason!
At the border in the mexican side there was a guy saying that on saturday there was an accident where a person past away, is it true or just a rumor he was spreading?
Sorry to hear that it is true, unfortunatelly rumors are really bad, the guy at the border was saying that 3 bikers died when they hit a car!! just goes to show how malicious people can be when wanting to spread bad rumors!!
when we were leaving on friday there was a white car pretty smashed up just as you leave RP limits. There was a lot of windshield damage. The police were there but most of it had been cleaned up. The plates were from colorado..so maybe that had something to do with it.
Last Tuesday, Nov 2nd, the Daily Star printed this article http://azstarnet.com/news/local/border/article_0967f293-b5fe-5710-92f5-ba57cfac8861.html kind of in the same line as to speak bad about Mexico, however there is only 200 american that died between 2002 and 2010 so far that is less than 8 years, last year alone 807 people died in AZ highways as reported by USDOT, as per one of the comments. We need to worry more about what is happening in USA than in other countries instead, maybe if we start showing and telling what is going on here, specially the bad things, people will feel better about what is going on in Mexico!!
we have always thought the road to RP was in good shape, easy to drive and seems like it was recently paved.Actually, often thought it was better than parts of the highway on the AZ side. We have also driven down the toll highway south to the ferries that go over to La Paz and again thought they were great. Just another seed to plant in people heads that mexico is bad. Maybe the reporter should drive the I-5 through california, now that is a crap all road with pot holes, bushes growing over it and endless mounds of rubber all over it. It ruined one of tires on our car.
Ditto on I-5 in CA.....I towed a Uhaul trailer up for my daughter in Seattle....had to stop every so often to check on the condition of the cargo, the trailer was bouncing so much on that pathetic road!!! I agree that the road from the border to Penasco is better then some of 85 in AZ, particularly thru the monument.
