I did a search and saw last years Thanksgiving roll call was started on this day - Sept 10.
let's get the ball rolling for what will be our 3rd consecutive cyber-gathering of forum folks.
I know Chuck and Val along with Kenny and Chari and some others have a longer run than that too.
last year the weekend flew by: from the potluck on Thanksgiving day, boat trip to Bird Island (snorkling and fishing) on Friday, followed by a fish fry Saturday at Bill and Edna's (and a birthday party), and then a shrimp boil Sunday in the rain at our space.
If Mark can look into the boat, I know those of us who went would LOVE to do that again.
as to Thanksgiving day potluck - it's been a great feast each year so far!
count Teri and I in for sure, and I'll check with the boss(Teri) to see what we'll bring this year (other than margaritas and sippin tequila).
let us begin the countdown!
Boy, Joe!
You're just like a little boy who can't wait for Christmas! LOL! Yeah, I can't wait either! So much fun! Put me down for a batch of Mark's peanut butter thingees, a pie of some sort and potatoes au gratin. I think I'll bring my mom if she wants to come. She finally broke down and got a passport card. My sister and her family go to the Dunes every year so we have our dinner on the Sat. after anyway.
I'll be there....early for a change! I've been down the past 2-3 years, but never made it in time for the pot luck....always had family get-together at my house before coming down.
If someone's bringing a deep fryer....I'll bring a turkey or two.... We ought to try a deep fried ham too!
Has anyone tried a "Sand Turkey"? Last Thanksgiving, amongst much teasing, I dug a large pit, started a huge fire, then when the coals were hot, wrapped a turkey in aluminum foil which was put in an aluminum foil roaster, put the turkey on the coals, took some coals and put them on top of the turkey, and then buried and covered it in sand. Everyone said it was the most moist, best tasting turkey, so I'm doing it again this year. The only bad part is you can't do gravy.
There will be three of us as usual, Two home made pumpkin pies, Alicia's killer mashed potatoes and seven layer salad and as we get closer to that date maybe something else as always!!
Joe I will be bringing down my deep fryer for the party along with a turkey. I may also bring down some wings to make up an appetzer for the group.
Nothing like hot wings and cold beer while waiting for the turkey to cook...
I have a large container of peanut oil from Costco (still sealed) that I bought last year for Thanksgiving but due to a death in the family, we weren't in the mood for any celebration. I know the oil becomes rancid once opened after about 3-6 months. Does anyone know if it should still be good to use if it hasn't been opened?
I guess I could wait until next month, open it and try it.....HUH?????
Joe it is a 50/50 shot? I know I have used oil that was over a year old (due to an over buy forgot we had it) and it was just fine. I wouldn't do that with oil that has been heated. BTW I do have 2 fryers if you would like me to bring them both let me know....
The one thing I hate about deep frying is the cleanup afterwards.......you almost can't avoid a little splatter and spill over of the oil.....
Rob....depending on how many people will be there and how much food....I'm sure everything would go quicker with 2....I used to make 3 turkeys....one for the meal, another for the family to take home wih them, and the last for "my" leftovers....with small ones in the 10-12 lb. range, it went quick!
Mark and I talked about this yesterday,. I'm more than willing to have the feast at my trailer again. I had over 30' feet of tables last year and all in the shade. I don't visit this site very often but you can find me on facebook, Chuck Helton.
Yes and there is that drunken piece of concrete that I, in all my sobriety, ran over with the Suzuki. OH YES FOR TURKEY DAY Edna and I will be there with something.
Chuck -
we appreciate the offer again.
can't think of a place we'd rather be on Thanksgiving.
we'll be a party of 3 - Michele will be coming down with us again - she's very excited as we are to see everyone!
Just popped open that large container (35 lb.???) of peanut oil....and it is still good....no rancid smell or taste..... I guess having been sealed, it wasn't affected by the heat.
OK everyone, time to firm up the plans. Mark, I count 16 for the boat trip on this thread. Have you gotten anymore? I seem to recall you told me that we had 25 some time ago but I can't recall......I have 2 big tables and 4 it 5 chairs to bring. I'm doing cookies, a pie and potatoes au gratin. I also may have another passenger for the boat ride. Probably 2, possibly 3. We'll be arriving before dark on Wednesday and will come straight to you, Mark, to unload the donations. Let me know as it gets closer if this will work for you guys. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Rob but I have a 4x8 utility trailer that I will be bringing a wheelchair, a shower chair, a bunch of yarn and some books in.
Mark, is there frozen food to come down that weekend? I can pick it up Wed. morning on the way out... I'm closer than Rob to Tempe. If anyone has anything to donate, get a hold of AzRob and me. Thank you all so much!!!!!
I'm still in...including the boat trip.....which day will it be (Fri./Sat./Sun.)???
I've got a big container of peanut oil (35 lb.??), possibly a couple of turkeys....haven't figured out what else I'll bring for the pot luck.
Still up in the air whether I'll head down late Wed. or early Thursday (Thanksgiving).....
If the weather looks good for the weekend, and I can get my jetskis ready (some work needed), I'll be bringiing them down too...I have a triple pull tube I left down there from my last trip.
Chari... if you have 16 counted from here I have 4 (Sandy) possibly 6 more bringing us to 20 to 22 passengers... this will be the same as last year and we will be going to the island on the Friday after Thanksgiving... this will allow us to push it to Saturday if the weather is bad on Friday...
I have been getting questions in emails about what to bring??? Last year we had plenty of leftovers from the potluck and I'm hoping it will be the same this trip... all you need to bring along are your drinks...
Chari, I'm not sure what you mean about frozen food??? But there may be some perishable food items from our friend Jeff for the Two Fish Ministries, but I won't know until a week or so before T-Day...
Mark, I got one more for the boat trip and T-Day dinner. He will be making a gallon of gravy for dinner. He will also be e-mailing you about a fishing charter for Sun. possibly. His name is Bobby.

Cool Thanks Chari...

See you guys on the boat!! Yay!!
We'll be looking forward to seeing you all again Angela...
It looks like for Thanksgiving dinner, Mark is smoking a turkey, R.P. Joe is deep frying turkeys and I'm making one. Crock pots are best for keeping food warm. We will have five 6 foot tables, the same set-up as last year. We will need someone to bring paper plates, plastic silverware, potatoes, a veggie tray, stuffing, and, of course, desserts. If you have a special dish please share it with us. We plan to serve dinner around 3pm, but come early...happy hour starts when you get there! Valerie will be making her "Pink Johnson's." Bring whatever else you would like to drink. We hope to have left-overs (turkey and desserts) to take with us on the boat. We will need bread, mayonnaise, and chips for the boat trip.
Mark,
Can you put me down for two if there is still room.
Rick
Cholla Bay
Thanks Rick... you are on the list... and Thanks to everyone else that has signed on to go to the island... it looks like we are almost full... I will go over the numbers shortly and get back with a count as to how many people will be going...

AZ Rob is bringing the deep fryers....I'm bringing enough peanut oil to fill one of them and will gladly assist in the frying.....when I see the turkey sales, will decide on how many turkeys I'll pick up....
I ate it......hey, if I see a whole ham around, I'll try to pick it up...most of the hams in the supermarket are now the precooked/spiral wrapped ones....BUT you'll have to trim off the charred stuff!!!
wanted to be sure Teri, Michelle and I are counted in for the long weekend -
and we'll bring a mass of those heavy plates, dessert plates, silverware and napkins for everyone,
seems they lasted thru the weekend. Chari - we have jars of mayo in our storeroom - we'll bring some for the leftovers on the boat.
margaritas, sippin tequila, and hopefully some kick-ass green sauce and chips.
good idea to have the fri/sat option for the boat - you never know what the weather may do.
it'll be here before ya know it!
anyone hear from Matt and Dusti?
Thanks for all the help, my friends! Mark, I have 3 people going on the boat. I'll be in Rocky Point this Thursday until November 14th. I won't have a computer until I get back home. Come on by if you're in the neighborhood!
It sounds like you guys are going to have a fantastic time.....how could you not!!! Sorry we are going to miss it......(you don't know how sorry:hateit:!!!). We'll be thinking of you all though, so think of us too......stuck at home (although with family and friends, as Thanksgiving should be) instead of with you all pigging out, pigging out some more, the boat trip, leftovers, pigging out on leftovers........oh, and a couple of good times drinks in between.......
More sorry that we're not going to meet people from here that we haven't met yet....this past trip, we met Bill and Edna, which was an absolute delight!!!! Thanks you two for coming to the fish fry.....that was my first time doing a fish fry, so it was a learning experience. The next one will be a blow out now that I know what I'm doing!!! Tom, pleasure meeting you as well.......I could tell we got you hooked on the trailer trash way of life!!! Rob and Michelle.....would've liked to have spent more time with you guys. Our introduction was too brief..........next time for sure!!! For the rest of our amigos' that we had the pleasure of hanging out with again, thanks to you all. You all are truly the most awesome group of people.......we love you guys!!!!
Well, all I can say is that I love all you guys and you and Bruce, too, Julie! You have the best parties! And, I will never forget Leroy jumping out of the screen door hole thingee (what is that called anyway?) That was amazing and I still can't believe he didn't break his little toes or anything! It must be 5 or 6 foot up! I was so hoping you could make it at Thanksgiving!
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in making a day trip down to Puerto Lobos? We could do it either Friday or Saturday, depending on which day the boat trip to Bird Island happened......caravan down and maybe do some snorkeling/exploring down there.
would like to throw out a plea for a ride to the marina for 3 of us for the boat ride - the back of a pickup would be perfect.
we'll have a cooler and supplies, maybe a fishing pole or 3. we can discuss over drinks Thanksgiving day :)
thanks!
Joe, Teri and Michele
Hi Chari,
Michele here. What types of donations? I was going to bring down some clothes & some stuffed animals - maybe even a DVD player. Not sure what's all needed. Can you let me know? Don't get on this forum much, but Joester kept encouraging me to do so, so here I am. Can't wait to see you again! It's been a year already? Time flies.
Hi Chuck,
What's still needed? As you know from Joester's posts, I'm coming down with them again & looking forward to seeing you/all! Was trying to read all these posts as to what everybody is bringing. Seems that a veggie tray is still needed? I'm also bringing cookies. Let me know, okay? Thanks. Michele/Michaela/Maccer
Hi Michaela... I got an email from Joester saying you would be coming along... we'll be looking forward to seeing you at the party and on the boat ride to the island...
Mark, was wondering if the Pacifica is set up for fishing like we did a year ago?
can we/should we bring our own poles/tackle?
also, do we need to have a fishing license if we want to fish aboard that day?
seems I totally forgot about asking last year, as we normally fish from shore and a license is not required.
I know cooler fishing needs nothing more than a lot of "bait"
Michele,
Anything you want to donate is appreciated. There are several women's shelters that will use the clothes. Stuffed animals are really needed. Soccer balls and Barbie dolls, too. Thank you soooo much for helping! Can't wait to see you again. It's gonna be sooo much fun!

good to see Michele on board again ......
Joe... the boat is a little to big to get in close to any rocks for fishing... can't say how good the fishing would be...
what's the water temp like lately?
would you expect it to be over/under 70 degrees out at Bird Island?
that's roughly my break point for a shorty suit or not.
thanks.
Michaela, a veggie tray would be great. I know most people should bring there own chairs to the party. It looks like I'll be down this Sunday or Monday and I won't have have a computer. If you get hold of Mark he can get hold me. A new record for me almost twenty days in November!
Chuck -
we're stoked to have 5 nights this year, can't believe a whole year has passed since last thanksgiving. we'll probably swing the rv into your place when we get there to drop off supplies, then roll back to PDO and get checked in and set up.
can't wait!
time flies like an arrow - fruit flies like a banana :)
A veggie tray & cookies it is!! I'm jealous that you'll be down for almost 3 weeks. I'll have to settle (and am happy) for 6 days with Joester & Ter Bear. Look forward to seeing you again. Michele
Michele,
I was down from the 4th-14th. Then the 22-28th. I'm also going to make some cornbread and brownies if my oven works. I'm ready for a feast and a party!
Mark
With the mention of fishing we all sure had a good time last year. It also provided the fish for the fish fry. We fished in a little deeper water South East of the island and got a ton of bass. I also would like to do it if for nothing else but to the hooting of the women. I will do the filet again.
PLEASE
This is a Rocky Point forum... We know how to carve a turkey... Oh, I forgot you don't go to P.P. Maybe you should post this on the Santo Tomas forum for dummies? And don't forget the violence...
SWEET! Wish you weren't leaving on Sun. though so we could hang some more since we're there 'till Tue. But, yeah, buddy we'll do some major eatin & partyin.
P.S. Hope your oven works, cuz I LOVE brownies & cornbread. See you in 1 week. Yoo, hoo!
Thanks for offering the ride, Bill. I'm with you re: fishing. It was a blast last year. I couldn't believe that I caught all those fish cuz I don't really fish that much & I'm not very good at it. I'll help you & Edna again with the fish fry if we have one. Can't wait to sit/chat with you.
Michele
Hey Az you do love your Scotch..just want to make sure don't light any of those plastic slave labor produced beads on fire

We had so much fun fishing at the Island last year! It would be great to have fresh fish for the fish fry again... I might make the brownies at home and take a chance on the cornbread. I have four boxes of each.
Chuck, my neighbor Char, (yes, there are 2 of us, LOL) and my friend Kathy up the way both have working ovens. Char will be there and I have keys to Kathy's place so we have ovens. I'll be baking my potatoes au gratin somewhere between those two. We'll get your stuff baked.
Chari,
Would be happy to share my oven with anyone who needs stuff cooked. Count me in on the Pot luck. I was thinking of bringing a spiral ham and some dinner rolls. Got to have them to make turkey and ham sandwiches with leftovers. Let me know if there is anything else you need for this, chances are I have it.
Char

I'll be heading down Thanksgiving morning...early...should get in before noon. Should be enough time to get the turkey I'm bringing down deep fried (only takes about 3 minutes/lb.).
Rob/Chuck....we have plenty of room to spread out. My friend Rosemary isn't heading down, and we can use her patio/parking area to set up the deep fryers (ROB...are you still bringing 2?). Could also use the area as a "buffet line" to set up the food, if necessary.
Sorry Chari, haven't been able to find an "uncooked" ham to deep fry. If anyone does, bring it down.
I'm just getting into this post, so forgive me if you have already discussed this. Is there a list of what everyone is bringing, I'm trying to figure out what is needed so that I don't duplicate anything that someone is already bringing. We are already down for one deep fried turkey.
Chari,
I'll cook the brownies Sunday night and we can do the cornbread fresh at the beach.
Michelle,
Did you see the new thread Joe started on Thanksgiving?
Chuck,
Are you going to freeze the brownies, then? After 4 days them brownies will be getting a little long in the tooth.....We have ovens and I can bake......I was born in Indiana.................I'll be there Wed before dark........
