I had a call earlier today that the replacement Chief of Police in PP was shot yesterday out by the Santa Fe Market on Benito Juarez. I've done some inquires, and it looks to be true at this time. There have been some conflicting reports about who was shot, so there's a chance it was someone else.
I just feel sick. I hope to God this is not true. We were just talking about the Santa Fe market earlier today. If it happened yesterday don't you think we would've heard something before now? Either from Rosy or elsewhere? Hopefully it's just a rumor. I'm not doubting you personally, Kenny, I'm just hoping that it's NOT true.
I'd sent Rosie a private a email here, and one to her work when I'd started my inquiries, and I haven't hear back from her yet. I've had more than one positive response since I started my inquiries, and that doesn't include my first contact. I'll be glad if it's all some mistake myself.
OK, I got this from Manny, and it's getting confusing now. I had positive response's from some very connected people in PP.
I asked Rosie and it seems it was someone from Sonoyta. Plus did not see or hear anything in the news about it yet. Ask Rosie for more details. But to my knowledge that the replacement chief was shot is only a rumor.
I think if this is not true, then maybe Stuart can change the title of this post so as not to give people a heart attack when they see it. What do you think?
Manny says he's talked to Rosie, and that she has first hand knowledge that it isn't true, and I'm wondering what the heck is going on, and who was shot.
Hey all,
Our replacement police chief is Lazaro Hernandez and he is safe and unharmed. Nothing happened. I am assured that this story has no truth to it whatsoever. When I got the email from Kenny, I was sitting in front of a department head for the State of Sonora. I asked him if it was true and he immediately got on the phone to disprove the rumor.
Kenny, I cannot explain how these rumors get started or how they gain so much momentum, I only know that this time it simply didn't happen. I would have responded sooner, but was extremely busy all day. Could it be that this happened in some other city? I don't know...
this is very strange. With so many RP talk members living in RPoint why not call the municipal dept, the Police department or Public affairs. It is very hard to believe IF this could be true can be held under wraps. as they say, link or it did not happen.
Title changed. If it is decided to be untrue, let me know and I'll delete it in the morning. No need to cause anyone unfounded panic.
Maybe now we could change it to read: Latest Rumor About Police Chief Not True
Thanks for everything, Stuart. If connected to the internet I can be reached at 602.512.1601 and when out and about, can always be found at 011.521.638.112.0134
i don't think it's a big deal either way(except for the chief) Until the day someone shoots some drunk americans handing out Mardi Gras beads and whooping it up it's just not going to effect us. Lets hit the beach!!!!!!!!

Well... it is a big deal for the police in Rocky Point... and the police in Rocky Point are putting their lives on the line everyday and there hasn't been any drunk or sober, young or old, male or female americans shot handing out Mardi Gras beads and I think the police of Rocky Point deserve a smile and our  for being out on the streets protecting us...

Well it might not affect you, but it definitely affects me!
Well it seems some people misunderstood what Chief was being inquired about in at least one case, and some of the others at this point, are said to be just a plain old misunderstanding's.
Well, I'm glad I was out in the field this afternoon with no internet or I would have been worried. See you all this weekend!
I was down for the 4th last year, where were you all then? I'm going over to the river and see my old friend Steve who has a place on the water at Havasu. But I'll be thinking of ya.
Hey, I'm sorry but I got some disturbing news this afternoon and I'm still reeling........ I'm trying to get it all straight in my head.........I should probably not post until I get my grip back......

BTW, I have been talking with some friends and co-workers that have been to PP before the shooting and since it happened. They have assuerd me, with the exception of a higher presence of militay and police....and an extra check point or two, there is nothing to worry about. Go have fun like you always have. I am hoping to get back there soon myself.
MMMMMMMM TEQUILA.........now you are speaking my language. That is one of the reasons I spend my time and money in PP. I hope to get back to my home away from home very soon.

On Friday a shootout occurred at the Circle K in Sonoyta, leaving Jose Luis Valdes Ontiveros wounded and hospitalized. On Monday morning, the suspect in the shooting, Leonel Boroquez Bejarano, was involved in a car chase as he attempted to flee from authorities. Bojorquez Bejarano was wounded prior to being captured, and as a result was transported to the Santa Fe Clinic in Puerto Penasco at approximately midday on Saturday. Armed guards were placed outside the clinic as a precaution. After being treated and released by doctors, Bojorquez Bejarano was being transported back to Sonoyta when the ambulance he was riding in was intercepted by an armed commando at kilometer 32 of the Penasco-Sonoyta Highway. The men stopped the ambulance and forced Bojorquez to accompany them. There were no reports of injury to medical or police staff on hand at the time. Immediately after Bojorquez was taken (about 4:30pm) state police and military officers were mobilized and checkpoints were placed at the entrances to Sonoyta and Puerto Penasco.
There's something a little confusing about this.............on Monday Bejarano was involved in a chase, wounded and captured. He was then transported to the clinic midday onSaturday. Should it not have said "midday on Monday"????? Anyway, I hope the rest is accurate...........it was not the replacement chief. When Kenny posted this, my first thought was just what I wrote.......wtf?????? My state of mind was "I refuse to believe this until I get information that confirms it". We're leaving about noon today, so if anyone can give me any updates on checkpoints and such, I'd really appreciate it. Still looking forward to coming down..........see you on the beach!!!!!

Oops! Sorry about that. Bejarano was involved in shooting on Friday. On Saturday he was wounded as they tried to apprehend him and then taken to the clinic. Saturday afternoon after treatment he was taken from the ambulance and checkpoints were set up. Sunday was peaceful and yesterday, Monday, was also peaceful. Thanks for that nudge, Beachgirl!
Rosy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great info A fox news summary could write this with a bit of an edge
New Gun Battle Nearly Kills Tourist at Popular Puerto Penasco Border Crossing Gas Station............Car Chase Terrifies Rocky Point Tourists............Clinic barricaded by Armed men.....Military Style Raid Stops Ambulance on Main Highway to Arizona's Favorite Beach,,,,,,,,,,,Master Criminal Escapes.......Army stops Cars Entering Rp Terrifying Vsitors!
Crap i sent my Architect friend down on friday to look at our potential project in Santo Tomas.....hope he wasn't getting gas on the way down..
I am glad that the city chief of police is safe. I am praying for the protection of the Puerto Penasco city officials that are working for the good of the city. And Kenny, is that picture by your handle a book that you wrote? It looks like it would be an interesting book. I am reading in Spanish right now Guillermo Munro's book, Return to Puerto Esperanza. It is really good and makes me yearn to go to a village like he describes set in 1951.
