Arizona authorities found two bodies near a common illegal border crossing Sunday, not far from where a deputy was shot last April, MyFoxPhoenix.com reports.

Emergency dispatchers in Pinal County reportedly received a 911 call Sunday night from a man saying he and his friend had been shot before the cell phone signal was lost.

Officials later found the bodies and two weapons, described as a long gun and handgun, according to the station.

Police said it's not clear whether the victims were illegal immigrants -- adding that the pair had tattoos indicating that they were from the area.

The location where the murders occurred is a well-known smuggling corridor for drugs and illegal immigrants headed from Mexico to Phoenix and the U.S. interior. It is also near where Pinal County Deputy Louie Puroll, 53, was shot and wounded April 30 allegedly by drug smugglers.

18 miles west of Casa Grande on I-8 isn't really "along the border".

I was thinking the same thing, Jay. That would be like saying that Tucson related crime is border crime.

well-known smuggling corridor it said

It is to most of the numbskulls that live in the rest of the country. The media does *not* have the same perception of what the border is that we do. "We" as in those that actually drive back and forth across the border on a regular basis. Heck, it could of happened in Flagstaff and they would have said the same thing - "a well-known drug smuggling corridor."

Oooops my bad... I should have been more specific... it said " a popular route for drug smugglers and human smugglers traveling from the Arizona-Mexico border to the Valley" in any case it's real shame this stuff happens at all...

My son farms cotton in that area and he says he sees them all the time when he is irrigating at night. They run out there with 4 wheelers carring drugs. Yes it is al long way from the border. Just above interstate 8
