Hey new airport, plenty of places to stay for people that now hate Arizona. Why not go to Mexico and stick it to crazy land...

PHOENIX - Since Arizona's controversial immigration bill was signed many around the nation have called for boycotts on the state.
Civil rights organizations banned together at the state capitol Friday to announce the launch of the website www.boycottarizona.org.
Some local businesses are already feeling the financial fallout. The Arizona Hotel and Lodging Association say 19 meeting have been cancelled because of Senate Bill 1070.
These groups represent an economic impact of $6 million to the state.
Ben Bethel says, “It's been a very quick swift action like I've never seen before.”
He is the owner of the Clarendon Hotel and says business has slowed since Senate Bill 1070 was signed.
Bethel explains, “We've had three groups cancel. As of today we've been receiving some angry telephone calls, emails and faxes.
One fax reads “Boycott Arizona. Don't buy, vacation or do business in Arizona.” The fax even encourages residents to buy only what you need and “help stop racist people from having their way."
That was a devastating message for the independent locally-owned hotel. Bethel says, “We were just about to get better, hopeful, confident about the economy get better but not in Arizona…not going to happen unless things are changed.”
Adam Goldman, a video game developer, is also finding his business at odds with SB-1070. He says, “Project Blue Ghost is our biggest development title to date.”
Production is set for October. The plan was for the 30 cast members to come to Arizona but Goldman says, “They don't want to come to be harassed and they don't want to be associated with anything in Phoenix right now.” He adds, “I have to do what's best for my family and staff and move production to LA.”
Goldman is taking the $2 million budget he has with him. He says he just hopes someday his home state becomes desirable again and asks people to consider that, “The citizens of Arizona didn't do anything wrong, the hard-working men and women of Arizona aren't to blame for this.”
We have the infrastructure, we have the manpower, we have the desire to produce anything that needs to be produced right here in Penasco, one hour south of the line but worlds apart in human compassion and business flexibility. It is time for those businesses in Phoenix and Tucson to think South.
I'm a patriot, who lives in the good old USA of A, not a ex patriot with vested interests in Mexico like yourself. You and some others are making a big mistake if you think the states, or the people of AZ are the enemy of Mexico, and overreacting to this bill that has not even been passed yet, might only hurt Mexico...Some of you need to get off your high horse, and stop trying paint this picture with such a broad brush.:stir:

Kenny...you have me scratching my head in wonder....sometimes I completely agree with you.....as in this post....and sometimes I wonder what you've been drinking(or smoking) when you doubleteam with your buddy Jerry?????????? :stir:
On this 25th of April, I haven't had a drink or a toke for 11 years ... Had 12 years without a drink once before,( I went on the Marijuana maintenance program) but when I fond out the deposit for Corona bottles was so high that I could turn them in for a new case..it was on!
Jerry has vested interest's in Mexico, but you don't see him pulling punches, do you? In case you haven't noticed Joe, my friend Jerry is a blue collard cement mixing humanitarian, who would like to see all of us all doing well.
In case you haven't noticed this as well ( what have you been smoking:?).. It's the party that sailed off with your money...The party that many of you championed during the election that are standing up on these bigoted platforms in many state's, and one's that are not on, or near, the border.
There are many of you on this forum who've lived in the southwest and Cali all of your lives, and remember when the word "immigration" could bring a stampede out the back door of shop's, and restaurants, and the hiding in porta pot's on job site's. The laws have been in place, but not inforced...Why? Because they don't want to loose cheap labor on one side, and vote's on the other.
For those of who have lived in Phoenix like I did for so many years, maybe Tucson too, you must know, or you should know, that many Mexican Americans who've lived in the state's for generation now, are not real keen about all the illegals either!
Our government by their inaction for all these years have us once again between a rock and a hard place, and guess what? It's going to be costly in many different way's.
Roll another one, just like the other one... Oh, by the way..when I stopped drinking the first time in 83, I grew my plant from cutting's in 4 different states for my own use. Yes, I have a green thumb.:-D

Kenny...I'm not going to argue politics with you....I'm neither a Republican nor a Democrat....although I lean towards the conservative side of the spectrum on some issues .

Again, wholeheartedly agree...it comes down to economics!

I agree with you and Obama is no different then any other administration on that issue, claiming (and I am paraphrasing) that too much energy has been expended on his health care push, that immigration reform has to be put on the back burner. So it doesn't appear to be a high priority for him either!

I don't smoke....never have smoked anything....but if you wanted to make me some "brownies" I'd be glad to try!!! Maybe it would help me "see the light".

+10 for Kenny.
I don't know if this law will be the answer but it certainly brought the problem to the forefront. There is also plenty of blame to share on both sides of the aisle.
It's frustrating because illegals cause lots of problems and increased costs in our State, but not all illegals are problems. They've got to figure out some sort of balance where the ones who just want day labor/seasonal work can come but not take American jobs.
Russell Pearce's son was fired from the DMV a few years back for selling drivers licenses.Fake ID biz is just going to boom.I'm sort of sick of doing physical labor at 58 maybe "Master Forger" would be a good white collar job.
From a Fallows commenter:
The truly entertaining bit about the new papers-please regime in Arizona is that it's actually harder for Americans to demonstrate that they're legally in the US than it is for anyone else: to a zeroth-order approximation, no American has a passport (the most recent figure I've seen is 25%) or citizenship card, let alone carries it with them. Driver's licenses and social security cards don't demonstrate anything about the holder's legal presence. In contrast, someone who is illegally in Arizona and might well already have an illicit social security card has little downside to acquiring knockoffs of whatever documents the local authorities want: I predict Arizona's next booming industry will be forgery.
Fact remains that a valid DL will suffice. Betcha the officer of the law will check the DL number in his I pod or car computer and verify that # is issued is to YOUR name and address. A valid DL is all that is needed, operative word "VALID".
Yep, I'm being tacky again, this was gathered by an archivist and he doesn't pass on anything he doesn't check out.
I have nothing against LEGAL immigration or some kind of work program but this is crap as 100's sneak across the border everyday just in Az. It's not like the ones that used to sneak across 30 yrs ago....this is a whole new breed and the info below verifies it. This information was compiled from F.B.I. and Department of Homeland Security reports:
* 83% of warrants for murder in Phoenix are for ILLEGAL aliens.
* 86% of warrants for murder in Albuquerque are for ILLEGAL aliens.
* 75% of those on the most wanted list in Los Angeles , Phoenix and Albuquerque are ILLEGAL aliens.
* 24.9% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals.
* 40.1% of all inmates in Arizona detention centers are Mexican nationals.
* 48.2% of all inmates in New Mexico detention centers are Mexican nationals.
* 29% (630,000) of convicted ILLEGAL alien felons fill our state and federal prisons at a cost of $1.6 billion annually
* 53% plus of all investigated burglaries reported in California, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona and Texas are perpetrated by ILLEGAL aliens.
* 50% plus of all gang members in Los Angeles are ILLEGAL aliens
* 71% plus of all apprehended cars stolen in 2005 in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and California were stolen by ILLEGAL aliens or “transport coyotes".
* 47% of cited/stopped drivers in California have no license, no insurance and no registration for the vehicle. Of that 47%, 92% are ILLEGAL aliens.
* 63% of cited/stopped drivers in Arizona have no license, no insurance and no registration for the vehicle. Of that 63%, 97% are ILLEGAL aliens
* 66% of cited/stopped drivers in New Mexico have no license, no insurance and no registration for the vehicle. Of that 66% 98% are ILLEGAL aliens.
* 380,000 plus “anchor babies” were born in the U.S. to ILLEGAL alien parents in just one year, making 380,000 babies automatically U.S. citizens.
* 97.2% of all costs incurred from those births were paid by the American taxpayors.
Funny how now the housing bubble is over we're all suddenly scared of this fake crime wave...what bs...check the Republic today and you will see crime is down from 2001.Why next thing we'll hear is how those oversexed Mexicans are after our white women.....If this is what you believe(well not the white women part) why are you guys against a national identity card (even if it is just for employment) You really don't want to solve this problem and i think what is really bothering you is the fact that people of color are getting political power and you fear your position at the front of the free government cheese line isn't a given in the near future.

we all have opinions, and are free to share them.
I seem to agree with most everything that has been posted here.
not quite nearly native, but an Arizona resident for 33 years and counting, and for the most part, Arizona has been an embarassment politically, and socially, but I still love it here, and plan on staying regardless of how insane some of
the people here are - folks are crazy everywhere, Arizona has no patent on that.
I do question why we can have 10's of thousands of our military guarding borders all over the world, but we can't/won't do much to protect our own. Similar to foreign aid - why not tell all of the "other" nations who benefit from the USA handing out cash and protecting their borders, that for the next 5 years - they get half:
half the money, half the military that we currently send overseas, while the good old USA takes that "other half" and fixes our schools, and our roads, and protects OUR borders.

Joester I am glad you said it, I mention it before and unlike you I got ignore or even think I got "BUUUuued" at, at least you have two going for your idea, my brother in love just came from Afghanistan, he is and always have my back up in ANYTHING, I rather have him here with his family and guarding the borders than there were nothing is getting done, IMHO, how many years now trying to catch Vin Laden now? how many wasted lives? and we are still threaten by them here, heard about the failed car bomb in NY?
The Laws should be made by the people for the people in a democratic manner where all have a say and possibly have the government approved and disapproved them and then possibly there will be more of us believing in the same thing instead of spending half of our lives fighting about right or left, liberal or conservative, fascism or socialism, instead we fight about laws that do not make sense (not talking about 1070) or laws that are so old that they belong in an antiques museum!!
I love Penasco- we've been going there about 30 years, and we follow the laws when we're in Mexico, but after hearing some people speak about the law in Arizona, I think these people should give the following suggestions to follow when you move your business to Penasco: Don't bother getting insurance from Rosie or anyone- it's not necessary- when you get thrown in jail after an car accident, have your fellow Gringos plan a protest. Don't bother getting an FM3 or FM2- just do the work and pocket the money. Don't plan on paying any of your taxes, and don't register your Mexican cell phone. If you purchase a house, don't bother getting a Fidiecomiso, and don't show them a passport when you try to open a Mexican bank account. We've been going there and living there for over 30 years, so we have rights!

Unfortunately, the US Military/ Industrial/ Political complex would not permit it, since they benefit substantially from the status quo. When in doubt always follow the money trail for the answer to what seems counter intuitive to our own interests.

He's been going down for years, and he knows darn well he can't do, being a American in Mexico, what many (not all) Mexican Nationals do in the states.
What we can or cannot do in Mexico actually has nothing to do with our problem in the states. The key words are "our problem", and it's about time to do something; and like Grandma used to say "don't ya think?"

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Kenny, I think we all should do what you mention in another thread put our fingers to our ears and go la, la, la, and wait to see what happen in 90 days, we can go on for ever but we will not change anything right now, it's signed, many agree with and many don't, whooptee dee!!! many here believe I disagree with it, I am all for it, I just do not like the profiling that is going to go along with it and that is what I am waiting to see!! just the opinion of a stinking latino naturalized citizen of USA with a heavy accent that gets profile a lot, then, now and in the future, that I can tell for sure is not going to change!! :eek3:
Yea she is a fair and balanced voice alright....brother........ she was a big fan of Japanese internment too(the Germans,,no camp for them) Hey I'll take 1000 illegal central american construction workers and give you one legalized Pakistani and i think I'll sleep better at night!

this is all about the cash, ... who is footing the bill and many tax payers in AZ are tired of seeing their taxes go up every year.
Sales tax approaching 10%! Property taxes now over 1% of property value, it was .60% a few years back. 20% Fed and 8% AZ, by the time you can spend your money for personal items it is 30 cents on the dollar.
Ajo just got nabbed. Everyone knew about the the "fake trailer parks" for Mexican children south of Lukeville where used to bus children to the Ajo school district. The trip was an hour but the busses where there every morning to pick them up so the school district could bill Arizona since they pay per child in school. Everyone knew they lived south of the border but used the trailer park address to show US addresses. Schools are not allowed to ask for citizenship and so it was for many years. A scam at AZ expense.
Bam, today Arizona is demanding $1.200,000 in defrauded funds from the Ajo school district.
This is about the AZ residents getting tired of the free pass, and Green go Pass was making a killing charging $50 dollars a month for a US address. The status quo is changing.
What happens to a US citizen caught with out legal papers in Mexico? (Rocky point is not Mexico, it is a Free Zone for all practical purposes, go to Caborca and then talk about freedoms in Mexico. Believe me, Mexico has the strictest immigration laws that would make you cringe.
It's about time....I've seen the buses (used to be 2-3) arrive full of kids....and watch them all walk across the border to the parents waiting in their vehicles.....everybody knew it was happening...even the US Customs people....they all took the attitude....."Not my job.."
That's interesting. Where I taught in Tampico, Mexico elementary education was far superior to most US schools. It was in Spanish though. If you're going to be an illegal immigrant I guess speaking English is an advantage. Glad to hear the Ajo school got busted.

Since when do illegal immigrants cross right threw customs?
Since when do illegal immigrants cross right threw customs?
They were Mexican residents using a Lukeville address so that they could use Ajo schools for their education....must have had a VISA to cross the border on a regular basis.
I can't believe you trader coming up with that answer. everyone shows ID, Becha most of them are USA citizens...
Betcha all of them were not....they set up an address in Lukeville ($50 per month according to the article) at the Gringo Pass so that they had a US address....then registered at the Ajo school. There was/is(?) no check of citizenship as long as they could show an address in the US......that is, by the school system, who had an incentive ($$$ from the state) to look the other way.

So because you have a po box in Lukeville, you can cross into the US without going through customs and having your id checked? That never works for me and I am white. I dont think there is collusion between the BP and the Ajo school system and they somehow split the money if the BP looks the other way while illegal people come across the border and get on a school bus. It just does not add up, just sayin.........
What is so difficult to understand????.....some residents of Sonoita obtained visas to legally "visit" the US for themselves and their families. It is not extremely difficult...as long as you have a job, an address in Sonoita or elsewhere in Mexico, and show that you are paying bills there, like utilities/phone. I know several Mexican nationals living in Penasco who have a visa to visit the US(there is a limit on how many miles into the US they may go).
They then obtain a "mailing address" at the Gringo Pass rv park or some other rv park, if there is one, as if it was a legal residence. Then they register their kids in Ajo to attend school there (as residents of Lukeville).
So what's the problem?....they cross back and forth every day with their legally obtained visitor visa.....
However, they are not residents of the US, and we, as taxpayes were paying for their educations in AJO! You have to be naive to think that the Ajo school district did not know this was happening. The bus drivers saw the kids crossing back and forth every day!
I think it's short sighted (big surprise!) to stop this evil plan to educate a small number of Mexican kids that then end up working and living on both sides of the border. These kids are sort of a bridge between our counties. One of the construction foremen at Santo Tomas went to school in Ajo and his ability to speak english, accurately estimate costs (math baby) and get me out of more than a few jambs is in part due to his Ajo experience.Hell he came down to the police station when Kenny and AZ smashed in the rear end of that truck at the TOPES a few years ago...

So it seems to me that if BP sees that these hordes of kids are going through customs everyday and boarding buses bound to Ajo (theres a sign on the side of the bus) and if in fact it is against the law to do this. There is accountability on the BP's part. Lets see 50 kids every morning at the same time, same kids, same bus north, yeah I guess they all must be shopping in Ajo for whatever it is they cant get in Sonoyta. So the rep going after the school district should go after BP instead in my opinion.
Whats your point cheatka eating tacos? I am not political but 1070 has nothing to do with border crosser s, it has to do with folks already here, driving miss daisy (I hope she has papers) and getting pulled over for whatever. 1070 will never stop the drug gangs from filling the need in the states for drugs. So the article is disjointed and offbase. Copy and paste something else so I have something to read.
"You Russ can take the High road since you are comfortably outside AZ border and do not pay for the (school System and new sales taxes) new imposed AZ deficits."
I pay property tax in 2 counties in AZ on 3 different properties personally and 1 commercially. As well my son is in an online university here in Mexico (from the states) and we pay for that too every month because he is not a resident of the US and does not get the benefit of free schooling even though we pay hundreds if not thousands in each year to the school districts one of them being Ajo as we still own a home there. So high road low road whatever it is what it is - education for anybody is better than lack of education everytime. A smart white kid generally does better than one which did not receive an education, conversely a smart brown kid shares the same deal. I would rather have my taxes (muchos impuesto in the States) pay to teach a few brown kids something than to have someone use it for something else...and it would be used somehow else and probably in a much worse way...non political just reality. Have a nice night, I am taking my uneducated butt to bed stress free and comfortable that I did nothing to harm anyone today and probably did something good. AJUA = life is good!
The state of Arizona loses way more money on giving tax breaks so rich guys can send their kids to private schools (with art, music, class trips to evil France) while our public schools go into the toilet. We are becoming a 2 class society. The rich are just making the brown and white rats fight for crumbs.......
On rethought - 1.2 million is not too much to spend on teaching kids, it will never be enough. GoDaddy spends that in one night for one party for new years. I say teach them all to be better citizens and less like the xenophobes I encounter daily in my travels........really folks 1.2 is nada nada enchilada.

Wow! but lets go after the brown kids. They are ready to be slaughtered, double standard. double standard. Just had to say it twice. Its a sicko world out ther folks, dont align yourself to closely with it as it cannot last! Talk about in-sustainability!
Dear Mr. President: I'm planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me. We're planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. Into Mexico , and we'll need your help to make a few arrangements. We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, Passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do Here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Calderon, that I'm on my Way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the Following:
1.. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all Services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. Please print all Mexican government forms in English.
4. I want my grandkids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking (bi-lingual) teachers.
5. Tell their schools they need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one Of the flag poles at their school.
7. Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both Breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can Get easy access to government services.
9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico , but, I Don't plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won't make any special Effort to learn local Traffic Laws. 10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not Get the memo from their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every Patrol car has at least one English-speaking officer.. 11. I plan to fly the U.S. Flag from my house top, put U.S. Flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not Want any complaints or negative comments from the locals. 12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying Any taxes, or have any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start. 13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican People to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, Or about the strain we might place on their economy.
14. I want to receive free food stamps.
15. Naturally, I'll expect free rent subsidies. 16. I'll need Income tax credits so although I don't pay Mexican Taxes, I'll receive money from the government. 17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Gov't pays $4,500 to help me buy a new car.
18.. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me free into The Mexican Social Security program so that I'll get a monthly income in Retirement. I know this is an easy request because you already do All these things for all his people who walk over to the U.S. From Mexico I am Sure that President Calderon won't mind returning the favor if you ask him Nicely.
Thank you so much for your kind help. You're the man!!! Sounds pretty far fetched. Or is it?

Anyone out there with an translation on Jerry's comment. He's speaking in tongues again.
We're going to have our semi annual great Corvina hunt down Las Dunas way in June, and I'll ask him then. He's always easier to understand when you see his lips move.
The "white people mask" story is based on the premise that the Arizona law will resulting in singling out brown people for immigration checks. To those of us who understand that premise is incorrect, it's a silly article.
With roughly 2 million Hispanics living in Arizona, most of them legally, pulling people over just because they appear Hispanic would leave police little time to do anything else.
I'll say it once more. What we've had up to now are police encountering situations where it is obvious they are dealing with illegals and then walking away because certain city councils, county supervisors, attorneys' offices and Congressmen want illegals left alone. These are the same officials who insist on putting water on city and county property near Tucson to help make the migrants' journey easier. (They say they're saving lives, but the locations of the water containers suggest they are instead intended to discourage migrants from surrendering at potential rescue sites just beyond the water.) With the spectacular exception of Joe Arpaio, the policy up to now has been for local jurisdictions to give a wink and a nod to illegals. People opposed to this law should tell us why they apparently believe illegals should be home free once they get past the border patrol.
Not that it will change anyone's mind, but one of the best commentaries I've seen on this subject came from a sportswriter.

Yep were going fishin! Note to Kenny the Mexican authorities have been alerted about the "Fish Scaring Outfit' and will arrest owners of said garment!
My point is I'm way more angry at the business men that hired these workers on large scale projects, the banks that caused the housing bubble, the president that fought 2 wars without funding them....you know......republicans
That's like saying you'd rather slide down a 50' razor blade backwards rather than forwards. I have as much use for any of them. I think Arizona might be taking a step in the right direction, racial profiling isn't necessary. All you have to do is go to one of the areas around Phoenix, Tucson, or wherever that casual laborers gather and ask for documentation. Time is the only thing that may alleviate the Obama situation. No racial profiling intended or needed there either.
The day you patriots start getting as pissed at the bankers that sunk us as you do at the Mexicans is the day i will start thinking you aren't just racists with a fondness for cheap beer and nachos.
Hell I have to compete with contractors(mostly religious fellows to boot) that get a huge advantage over us on certain jobs because they use illegal labor.A lot of you gain from this pool of labor. When they start selling bull**** cars, worthless insurance, spewing hate on talk radio or start training our dogs (oops scratch that one!) then you might feel they are stealing your fire, Now you just get a bonus from them being here when you total everything up at the end of the day.
