I just saw that the Satisfied Frog is going to close permanently this weekend. Sad to hear. I wonder how many other
places that have been around for awhile will survive the shutdown in Mexico and everywhere else.

Sad to see but I think this is just the beginning.

This was posted on Puerto Penasco Facebook as to why they decided to close up

Most of my friends know that back in 2014 Maria Martin Chilleen and I along with some partners opened The Satisfied Frog in Rocky Point. When I put up the original sign prior to opening, people who knew of our 27 year run in Cave Creek, started stopping by. I knew we'd be successful and we were for 7 years.........until the dreaded virus hit and the whole world changed. Our lease was due for renewal in October and under normal circumstances we would have renewed but not this time. Our managing partners have decided to go another direction and I don't blame them. So as of this Sunday The Satisfied Frog Rocky Point will close! Maria and I still own the Mexican trademark for the name. Someone might be interested in using it to open in a different location in Rocky Point after this mess is all over. When a brand is popular the saying is " it has legs" we think" The Frog has legs"

Food was always better than what you would find along the Malecon. The atmosphere was also great.
I hope somebody brings it back to life because there aren't enough places in RP that make a pizza like you guys did.

Sorry if I'm a bit jaded, but the damage for 5 people getting sick in Penasco is too high. More businesses are going to die from covid than people. Penasco should have opened last week with safety measures and kept people over 65 quarantined. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bloomberg.com/amp/opinion/articles/2020-05-07/comparing-coronavirus-deaths-by-age-with-flu-driving-fatalities. Let the screaming and name calling begin.

Miramar, a lot of truth on both sides of the Covid fence. Businesses need to be open to survive and pay their employees.
Stay at home orders are to hopefully keep the spread contained. Which choice is the right one?
We should know in a few weeks which direction is the one to stay with.
I sure am glad, I don't look 65+, so I can get out and about.
FYI, Mexico's CV cases should be peaking in 1-2 weeks, they're getting close to the top.

Sonoyta opened a couple of weeks ago. The Satisfied Frog was a great member of the community, and sorry to see them go.

Here is the part that I’m not understanding. Based on projected 2020 US population and numbers of US confirmed cases, unless I’m doing the math wrong, approx .5% of the US population has had the virus. So, the stay at home order is working. For now. But, you can’t stay at home forever, so after a couple of months or so the order is lifted and we’re back in business. Now will the remaining 99.5% of the US population get it? Or will the social distancing, reduced numbers in confined spaces, gloves and masks stop the spread? If the answer is yes, why didn’t we just do that from the start? If the answer is no, what did the stay at home order really accomplish other than damage the economy? We were all going to get it when we came out of isolation anyway. But now they’re projecting a peak in AZ in a few short weeks? How is that possible? None of this makes any sense to me.

Maybe there is a hope that the infected but as yet undiagnosed will die off and whose deaths can be laid off to of various chronic disorders so the stats will look good viz a vi the virus. The whole business of cause of death is interesting. Way back when, it was virtually always a heart attack as the cause of death and that because it was the main or only measure of life the medicos had. Heartbeat , alive. No heart beat, dead. Had to be death from no heartbeat, right?? Now I think it's more death of the brain, flatline.

The other thing that muddies the water about all this country comparison is that the different countries and even areas of one country are using different methods of diagnosis. Clearly areas like Penasco benefit from a low incidence which can and will influence reporting. The initial strategy here has worked in the early days. Now we will see what happens. watch the rate of reported new cases in Penasco / Sonora.

As with any pandemic / epidemic, “herd immunity” prevails. The main, original purpose of the stay-at-home order was to buy time to shore up medical facilities in the inevitable spread. That having been done, you’re right – more will be exposed (as Roberto said, in the case of Penasco, areas of low incidence will be unaffected or to a lesser degree), and there will likely be a surge in cases as nature takes its course. But now we have better ways to deal with the illness. Also, I believe that way, way more than .5% have had the virus. and that the worst is behind . . .

I read this today on Satisfied Frog Facebook page.

The response to my post about seeking a new location ,in Rocky Point ,for the Satisfied Frog, has been very positive. Especially when I mentioned Crowdfunding. With Crowdfunding we can raise a little money from a lot of people without them breaking their bank. Basically we trade food and drink for money in advance. Example: You contribute $100.00 and we give you $150.00 in food and drink. This would allow us to open again without debt and in these uncertain times that is the best way do do it.

How much money and how many people contributing will be determined by what it cost to open after we find the right location. Right now I am estimating by the current costs the minimum is $50,000.00 USD or $100.00 from 500 people. There will be other options as low as $25.00 but this is a good ballpark figure.
An important fact is none of the money raised would be spent unless we find the right deal and location. If we can’t find a good location your money would be returned.

This is “Paying it forward” and you get value for your contribution. If we can raise the money I’ll get off my butt and open a new Satisfied Frog in Rocky Point.

If I get positive feedback I’ll start an Indiegogo.com campaign and off we go!

I read this on Puerto Penasco Facebook. This is the new restaurant opening where Satisfied Frog was and if I am understanding correctly they were the owners and managing partners of Satisfied Frog along with Ed Chillean founder. (Established in 2013. Meet the Business Owner: Rick N. Alongside founder of Crazy Ed's Satisfied Frog; Ed Chilleen, owners and managing partners Rick and Kris Nichols welcome you to the Satisfied Frog Puerto Peñasco)

Margarita Mermaids
- Krissy and I are so please to announce that we will be back in business as Margarita Mermaids hopefully by July 1st if not sooner. We are still located in the Old Port, Malecón by the Vina Del Mar Hotel. Even more exciting is that we are able to hire our full crew back! They are all so anxious to see you again real soon. Although we will keep some of your favorite foods, we will also be offering some great new meals and drinks. In the meantime, we will be working hard on our new menu, branding (colors, logos, ect are just placeholders for now), remodeling and website with pickup and delivery options still available. Follow our page Margarita Mermaids to keep up to date on the remodel and upcoming VIP pre-opening parties and offers.
Thank you and God Bless,
Rick & Krissy Nichols

There was a post on RPT last week about the Frog closing, sounded like Rick's partner's wanted out, so Rick
is restarting a new place in the same location the Frog is. Seems more of a re-branding, we'll find out soon.
I hope it turns out well for them.

Yep it's bad. However......Jose from Boo Bar, his crew, Jerry from Tekila-Manny's and his crew, Jill from Jillz place and a couple of dozen other people were there Sunday morning through the afternoon cleaning and donating money, drinks, food. The design is already done for the remodel which should be done in the next 2 weeks. Not sure about a gofundme but you never know. It was great to see all the "competitors" come to the aid of one of their own. I am sure it will go back together the right way and with the backing of all of the locals.
