Bait

I was recently in the Lee Lee grocery store and was suprised at the fish they were selling. Not as bait, but they looked to me that they would be perfect. Prices seemed to be good but I have not bought any bait fish in Phoenix for a long time. Some of you may want to check this out and report what you think. Check the fresh and frozen sections.

Bill,
were you at the market on Dobson?
was their fresh fish selection pretty decent?
thanks

Yes, many of us have discovered Lee Lee's is the best bait shop in the valley. It does get a little ripe smelling in the summer though...

Every fisherman finds out about Lee Lees sooner or later. This is always the first stop before fishing.

I did not look at the fish considering how fresh it is. Based on how much they sell I would have to think it should be very fresh. You can also get it live right out of the aquariums. Yes it is on Dobson.

Yeah, Lele's is awesome... Their seafood section is HUGE.

They sell whole uncleaned shrimp, and tons of different bait sized fish.

You can get two pounds of frozen anchovies for about 3 bucks, and the last time I was there they had a 3 pound bag of frozen pacific mackeral that were perfect candy bar size for $1.99

People... people... people... they don't sell any of that as "bait." They sell it because so many Asians eat it! It's us gringos that use it as bait.

I'll take fresh caught live bait anyday. Both the frozen squid and baby octopus make great bait, but I've never had any luck with the frozen sardines, anchovies, or their mackerel - it's all too soft when it thaws a bit and doesn't stay on the hook very well.

Still, I love shopping there - best selection anywhere.

I love the Kim Chi they have several different types... that's one of the things I miss living in mexico... Barb will get me the bottled stuff you can sometimes find in grocery stores, but by the time she gets it back down here all the fizz is gone...

Will Work for Kim Chi...

I am confused. So wat's new? Everything I read about Kin Chi is that is a fermented vegie stuff. You say the Fiz is gone so is it a drink you are speaking of?
Seadweller
Bill when you open the kim chi that comes in a jar it fizzes if it hasn't lost it fizz in the cooler on the ride down here... the fermentation of the juice causes it to fizz... I guess it's an aquired taste... I've seen cats turn their tails and run from the stuff... but I love it...

One man's bait is another man's bread.... or something like that.

Well, I gotta say- from the smell in that place (particularly during summer) I'm a lot more comfortable shopping there for bait then I would be if I was shopping for dinner :???:
don
Sounds like this place would be worth the trip for bait. Pardon my ignorance, Dobson and ?

I wholesale frozen bait located in Glendale AZ. you can buy Anchovies Ballyhoo Herring , Spanish Sardines ,Squid, Chum Balls etc. @ West Marine or Safe Marine in Penasco the Spanish Sardines are a little different than Pacific sardines the body fat in the spanish is closer to 2% versus the pacific sardine at 14% which make the spanish sardine stay on the hook better & not foul.
you can check out my products @ www.fishonbaitco.com

thanks , & Hello Stuart

Thats great news. Are the sardines and anchovies brined or just frozen?
