Haven't heard any of the "regulars", who post reports and pics on their corvina capers during the May, summer through November months...
Anybody with reports of fast and furious corvina shore fishing?
In years past, this time of year has been really active with large schools of corvina coming into the estuaries, running along Encanto, Las Conchas and Mirador.
Not sure if it's just been me, but the fish count and major schools of corvina seem very much diminished.
Anybody with more insight than me have input or thoughts? Have the corvina been diminished by the nets and commercial fishing ?
I would venture to say that at least 90% or more of the upper gulf corvina breeding population was completely wiped out in the past two weeks out of El Golfo de Santa Clara. Panga fleets from as far south as Topolobampa and all camps north converged there for a gill netting orgy. We saw it first hand and the news documented that almost every boat was bringing in a TON of fish each and the open flatbed semi trucks were hauling as much as 30 TONS each back down south. Of course no endangered Toatoabagiant croakers or Vaquita mini porpoises were taken as collateral kill and certainly not reported by the very environmentally conscious Mexican fishermen. The Sea Shepherd fleet was nowhere to be seen, probably in fear of their lives and yuckin it up in the whore bars in San Felipe BC.
So much for Slim Carlos and Leonardo de Caprolite and their puro caca de caballo unconditional BAN on gill netting.
I fished from las conchas shore just about every tide from June 1st to the 7th and only hooked a few leatherjacks. I didnt do any bait fishing until night time and the water was booming with bonefish. Probably caught 30 of them in 2 nights. We chartered a boat out 22 miles on monday and we even struggled to make bait. Boat had to buy fish from another boat but we caught a mixed bag of fish that day (leopard grouper, trigger, pinta, and a yellowtail)

You will need a cooler of cold beer for one. It was asked in another thread. You can use just about anything you can get at the fish market or off the sea food section at the grocery store. The fish aren't picky.
Pieces of shrimp and octopus are my go to bait they stay on hook better for the long casts. You will catch sting rays, make sure you keep the stinger under control when mess with them.
The Mexican Giant Cardon cactus is the tallest and heaviest cactus in the world. The Saguaro is a pipsqueak next to one. I've seen forests of a similar giant on the desert coasts of Peru and Ecuador they call it Cardon also but it is not related to the Mex variety.
I'll be down your way on Saturday afternoon to check it out. Supposed to be hot and sweltering with a chance of rain all weekend long.
