Good luck with a wall south of me and the Res. will not let it happen

Wall or fence. Same thing. The point is a barrier/obstacle to keep people, drugs and terrorists on their own side. The idea is thousands of years old.

Was sort of thinking this thread could focus on technical details such as Tohono land and the incredible problem the border terrain presents....also whether the Ryan position or the Breitbart view win over Trump on the deportations...The attitude of the Mexican people toward out presence will be influenced on who wins that argument....On the real estate front a hardball line might actually fill the border town and RP with people forced south...with and mostly without money...not sure what will happen!!!

The "wall" is only a distraction. The real invasion is one day away from success.
The US has just been handed to the Russians.
Our only hope is that the Repuklican party realizes it sooner than later and impeaches him.
Then the next civil war will be started by the white fringe that have been waiting for the sign it's time to start shooting other Americans and the South will rise again.
Canada is to cold, Mexico is a mess and we are trapped here with this crap.
There is no escape. We are doomed.

When I read it back it sounds like an entry into a diary or something lol.

Would make a good song....with a bob Dylan twang but wanted to keep this politically neutral.I see it just a place to report the facts on the ground as events occur.....for example a family from Fremont California....half Mexican/half Afgani ( imagine those dinners!) contacted me about purchasing a cul de sac I own a lot on for a family compound.....kids in school would go to Ajo schools.....grandpa would grow olives near Santo Tomas.....

Here is reality...If we (America's) really did not want anyone to cross the border we could have it come to a near perfect stop any time we chose to. I was stationed near the Czech border before the fall of the Berlin wall. The Russians put up a simple fence with guard towers every hundred yards. Anyone who tried to cross the fence was shot. This was very effective, and also very inhumane. For some reasons we Americans have always needed someone else to blame our woes on. Native Americans, Blacks, Italians, Germans, Japanese, Irish etc etc etc. I really am not sure why this is, but it has been 100% consistent throughout our history. The other thing that has been consistent is all of these groups (and more) have represented a source of cheap labor. We (Americans) have no real desire to close the border because there is too much money at stake. Not in the cost of a wall, fence, etc but because of the loss of a cheap source of labor.

We'll most like pretend to stop the flow of of undocumented persons because for some really strange reason it makes us feel better, but if we were serious you'd see guard towers being put up every hundred yards.

Lets all take a deep breath, recognize that both Mexico and the US are wonderful countries in their own right and enjoy what we have to offer each other. I may be naive, but I have always believed that love, concern, peace and respect wins out in the end. In some mystical kind of way 'nature' has a way to find balance even for us human beings, at times even in spite of our ourselves. God Bless America and Viva la Mexico.

Well, I understand what you are trying to say Jerry. But the facts are the entire subject is completely driven by the politics on the ground.
We will know more soon enough I suppose but in the scope of things it's kinda small potatoes with the possibilities of what can be happening on the ground north of the border.
The family looking for a place to have a family compound is just an ironic coincidence to the fear that has been presented to them by the political climate in the US? Me thinks not.
I personally would like to see Mexico stand their ground.
But how would a tit for tat policy work out for those of you that own down there? How will it affect those of us that travel down there and have hopes of owning and living down there? I will be surprised if it is anytime soon that we know the answers to these questions.
What language should everyone start learning? Lol, I think here it will be Russian. Down there it might be Chinese.
Nibiru might make it all pointless anyways lol.

"Those people"... what a great choice of words, Jerry. How tolerant and non-judgmental of you. If you've been paying attention, "those people" have been keeping to themselves in Rants and have NOT come up here to threaten you, anyone else, or your "Mexican" experience on this forum.

It seems that you're upset that these folks even exist. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read anything that's in Rants. Yet here you are, being offended about it. Why now? It never bothered you when you posted whatever you wanted with your uniquely liberal point of view there. And nobody, including myself, made you take it down or bitched about it.

I am working on making Rants an invisible forum. In other words, you won't even know it is there unless you specifically ask to become a member of the group that has access to it. Would that make it any better, or will you still be offended simply "knowing" that "those people" exist?
jerry
Great idea...that should have been done right off the bat....in ten years on the forum the only person I ever cursed at is you when you stated your belief my Cochise county neighbor Bob Krentz was tied to the narcos that murdered him....look at our debate ground now....dirt surfer and I have a multi year discussion of obamacare and didn't insult each other once....

Done. Rants is still there for the moment as those users transition to a new invisible forum that can only be seen or accessed by permission.
Hey, I really do want all to be happy.
Hillbeartoe
Why should it even exist here?
Not that I am anyone of consequence but if this site is about a place that we all love to visit or are lucky enough to live then why have a section that seems to be geared towards promoting propaganda from one mindset or another?

When I joined this site it was for information about RP. I allowed myself to get involved in discussions that turned into differences of opinion but in general involved the place and I think just as important the people.
Now it seems to be a front for some group to congregate and spew their propaganda, and now it will be in secret.

WTF has happened to this place Stuart? How could you let that happen here and from your response to Jerry seemingly defend it? I am not saying you should agree with Jerry or my points of view but there is nothing at all of what I have read from these new members that contributes one bit to what I thought was the purpose of this site. Several have not one post but are just racking up likes from others that agree with their replies!

I have a lot of respect for you Stuart. Moderating a forum is a pain in the ass. I know. Your fishing experience is indispensable!
I love this place. I direct people to this place constantly in promotion of Rocky Point and Rocky Point Talk. But I do not understand what has happened here. And to hide it in a permission only secret section, all I can say is WOW.
Stuart
Hill... opinions are in fact just that. I accept yours for what it is. No judgement, no harm, no foul.

As with everyone's opinion here. This forum has history that goes way back. It's been peaceful, it's been a warzone.

For whatever reason, some cannot accept that there are in fact different opinions than their own. Be it political, sexual, racist, or any of the rainbow of opinions we see reflected across this country today.

If I was making something "secret", what purpose would it serve to announce that as I have? No secret, just a simple solution. You want your world, you can have it. They want their world, they can have it, too. And then there's no reason for either to be offended by the other.

Life here in the Rocky Point ejido will go on as it always has and no one has to be worried about "those people". Simple, really.
jerry

Interesting conversation here. I joined the forum quite some time ago because I wanted to learn more about Rocky Point specifically and Mexico, generally.
It was every bit as informative as I had hoped. Not only did I learn, I also met a number of folks that have become friends and also who made it possible
for me to contribute, in a little way to those in need there. The forum was full of information about life in Rocky Point, the Sea of Cortez and such.

Now, most of the folks that were contributing then are gone. If you are a fisherman, this is a great site. I'm not, however, I enjoy the stories and am amazed at the
ability of folks to pull in those huge creatures, but I wish they would throw back. The information on the gas situation was helpful and I wish there were more
discussions about roads, food and the things that the folks in Rocky Point need. We used to have many posts about what can be done to help.

In April, I will return for our annual NFL Draft party. Because of age and physical limitations, that could well be my last rodeo there. I hope not, but being realistic
it's quite possible. I want to thank the forum for helping me to appreciate Rocky Point and the Mexican people. What I learned has served me well. A special thanks
to Roberto, Seadweller, yes you too Jerry and Kenny and Lady Jeeper. I may disagree sometimes with their politics, but they have given me many insights to the history

All over a wall that won't work even if it could be built. Seems to me there must be a better approach to stopping illegal immigration than building a wall. What do you guys think? A complete overhaul of our immigration laws? If we can't keep them from crossing the border, then why can't we come up with a way to make immigration work for us? It may be impossible, but maybe not. It could be a massive work force willing to do jobs we really don't want to do. Thoughts??

Not a dumb idea at all. And when these millions of jobs they vacate can't be filled because no one wants to do the job for less than 75k a year then what?
You already see the response in agriculture. Instead of hiring "American" workers the owners are buying machines. That's great for the handfuls of factory builders but that will come to an end after the initial buy phase it will become a service based business.
Oh well. Only thing to do is wait and see now. If it works then I will be willing to say I was wrong, no problem. But if it doesn't I bet not one person that is for this crap would do the same.
Somehow it will still be a Mexicans fault.

This translated Impartial story about Mexican willingness to tear up an unfavorable NAFTA would ruin sonora... we would be put in danger...After a meeting with the Political Coordination Board of the Senate of the Republic, in which the benches gave him his support, the chancellor held a press conference where he assured that a win-win negotiation would be sought.

"Of course Mexico will not accept conditions that are unfavorable to the nation's interest, particularly in trade matters if the Tlcan is modified." The President of the Republic said yesterday that it has to be from a win-win premise, Has to be something positive for Mexico, not what hurts our country, "he said.

"And of course, we will not accept any renegotiation of the Tlcan, there is always the possibility of abandoning the Treaty and then governing the trade between Mexico and the United States from the rules of the World Trade Organization, that is not our preference and "Our proposal is to work to have a better Free Trade Agreement for Mexico and also for the United States," he said.

Videgaray said that if the proposal to modify the Tlcan comes unfavorably for Mexico, "of course there are limits that we can not accept and there is always that option, which is certainly not the best for Mexico, but it is naturally another option" .

"The fundamental nature of a Free Trade Agreement is that trade is free, free of tariffs, free of quotas," he said.

What a total bolsa de caca de caballo.......

"The fundamental nature of a Free Trade Agreement is............."

This has never been the case and I know it as a fact. All that agreement did was form a new ripoff base for USA finger dippers to get a cut off of your stuff cummin into the US. You need an import license, pay an agent on both sides of the border, gotta pay for a US and Mexican customs agents time and after all of that you still gotta pay a fee of 30% or more depending on the contents and the value of your load.

I used to do a weekly run to San Luis RC to bring back a few thousand dollars worth of auto parts and come back to the USA with no hassle. Once NAFTA went into effect it was all over with. It's always been there for the big guys in the produce business and auto parts manufacturers like Ford.

Ever see hundreds of big rigs in line waiting to get into Mexico? Of course not. Mexico gets it's crap from China. The line of Mexican big rigs waiting to get into the USA are loaded with produce picked at fifty cents and hour and automobile components assembled at seventy five cents and hour.

None of it was ever intended to be "free trade".

Hey Jerry...............

Feb 6 was almost one year ago!

How about today?

Anyway, the word is on the streets here in Yuma that a lot of people are gearing up to get outa Dodge and head back to Mexico ASAP before the roundup starts and they might have to do some jail time in the USA before being officially deported. That of course means a lot of unhappy campers with really bad attitudes ending up just over the border. I've already experienced it first hand almost every time down in PP and started carrying an Illinois Slugger and a tomahawk in my vehicles. Last year I had to pull out the bat twice.

I've already experienced it first hand almost every time down in PP and started carrying an Illinois Slugger and a tomahawk in my vehicles. Last year I had to pull out the bat twice.

JJ

Unfortunately you may be right, JJ- my cousin is Phoenix PD and orders for years have been to not turn over any suspected "undocumented" persons to ICE if stopped for pretty much anything except serious violent or major drug crimes- which is usually irrelevant anyway since they would probably not be able to make bail for such crimes.

But a DUI? Free to go and rip up court appearance. Theft/Vandalism? Ditto. Spousal abuse? Yessiree. If this policy changes Mexico could be flooded with deportees that while they may not be hardcore violent criminals, they are not the "best and brightest" either...

Could be a wild ride...

I think that the City of Phoenix is probably having an emergency meeting as I write this. Phoenix is a SANCTUARY CITY which is why your cousin has to put up with that crap and why Sheriff Joe is still in hot water. Part of The Donald's plan is to cut all federal funding for any municipality, town, city, county or state that claims sanctuary for the criminals.

We shall soon see how this plays out, but I feel a full blown shit storm a brewing.

. Stay safe...after my threatened demise at the hands of some real estate hustler last year ( his messengers had business related complications) the idea of getting jacked up by some Haitian in a Sonoyta parking lot would be a demeaning way to go out..we are not in the right place at the right time sums it up!

Hola Jerry..............

Today, The Don, with the stroke of a pen just made every law enforcement officer in the United States of America a Federal Immigration Officer. This includes the until now, worthless Ranger Ricks employed on every inch of federal property bordering Mexico.

We shall see where the flailing leads.

And yes, some have already seen the black clouds heading their way. As of early AM today I have seen four pickups loaded with furniture and appliances scooting off to somewhere, more than likely to those balmy Southern climes.

Jerry.............

Youz a got's to be a kiddin.........................

Kill the Arizona construction boom?

Twenty five hundred miles of American Made iron rebar, thirty foot tall twenty foot thick American made concrete walls, shoot, it will be like building Boulder Dam again but fifty times over. How many American construction workers will be employed for that monumental task? How many just on Arizona's five hundred miles worth? There will be millions to be made by the civilian work force. I might even offer my companys services to relocate those elusive endangered desert Horny Toads, Chuckawallas and Scorpions for a hefty but fair fee. Arizona Ford 4x4 truck sales will explode. In fact, I just bought my 2017 Ford Raptor race truck just in case I might have to run down a few endangered Sonoran Pronghorns to catch and relocate to the Phoenix Zoo or AZ Sonora Desert Museum.

The Don announced today the the Army Corps of Engineers will be in charge of the project and to start taking bids from contractors. Any government contract of this magnitude will require the bidding contractors to have American employees available to do the work either as live bodies or immediately available with resumes.

He's also going to hire five thousand new Border Patrol agents, not to patrol the border but the interior of the USA just in case the local Barney's aren't up to the job.

The storm ain't a brewing any more. It's here NOW, so better prepare for the deluge and watch out for the bowling ball sized hail stones.

In order to circumvent the filthy lying main stream media you just might log onto the new: www.whitehouse.gov in order to get the current FACTS.

Mass deportation would immediately reduce the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2.6 percent, with an annual loss of $434 billion, and reducing cumulative GDP by $4.7 trillion over 10 years....

Trump's latest idea on how to make Mexico pay for his wall pipe-dream is a 20% tax on all Mexican imports. So, Mexican exporters would have no choice but to raise their prices by 20% to cover costs, resulting in a 20% price increase to consumers in US. Get ready to pay for your share of the his wall...

Got back last night. Talked to a friend about going to Nogales to see dentist. We both go to Laser Dental. She told me that it is too dangerous to cross the border now. The (Natives) people on that side of the border have started taking out their anger about the wall on people going into Nogales for prescription and dental work. I have been going into Mexico since I was 2. I did not notice anyone being unkind this week in RP. But she told me there have been reports of trouble in El Paso and Nogales and TJ. I am an old lady and she got me wondering. We were thinking of driving done to Mazatlán which we have done many times. Now we are hearing that people are canceling their trips to San Carlos, Mazatlán. Is it just Green Valley or all over AZ?

All these gringos that voted for Trump will be thrilled the Mexicans are getting rounded up. Then let's wait for the long, loud, whining and crying about why their fucking tomatoes and lettuce cost $10 each. Idiots - all of them.

Jungle Jim
I wouldn't buy a Mexican tomato in a USA grocery store if it was ten cents. They are all rock hard, unripe, GMO, pink Roma's all grown and picked by machines, never touched by a human hand. And by the way, all of the lettuce in your grocery store is grown right here in Yuma AZ USA and picked by high paid unionized Mexicans brought from deep inside Mexico that are shipped here in $300,000.00 commercial tour buses. They live in what used to be public housing apartment complexes but is now contracted out by the Yuma USA based produce companies. They are bussed to and from the fields in those fancy rigs. They get here in November and leave in May. Most drive back home in new cars and trucks. There are no locals natives or otherwise that can get into that line of work here any longer. Earlier this week I paid one dollar a head for Iceberg Lettuce at out local Frys store, grown just a few blocks from my home here in Yuma. Take a look at the country of origin label before you spout total BS.

President Trump is getting rid of illegal foreign CRIMINALS many of them have been deported TEN times or more! What is wrong with that?

JJ
jerry
Your just being ignorant...go to Sprouts etc. and check country of origin...a mixed bag but much from mexico..the lack of labor is killing the Cali growers..Where do you think all that Asparagus, grapes and melons grown around Caborca are headed? This will be a huge economic hit...

Bob Oso
What might be a good course of action for Mexico and its citizens is stop agonizing over the effects of the policies that the new administration is imposing, and maybe start focusing on the corruption that runs the Mexican government.
Jungle Jim
I figured that would wake some of you up.

I am sorry Jerry. I live in southern Arizona too. Probably closer to the line than you. Yuma has already become part of Mexico. Only a few hundred holdouts like me left here. In fact I see and talk to more Gringo's in PP than I ever see here.

As for the farm labor shortage in CA and AZ just thank the United Farm Workers Union for that, sixteen dollars an hour to pick weeds and get full bennies? No one from Mexico comes up here to work in the fields anymore. That's because very little labor intensive farm work exists here or in CA. Any farm operation that thinks it can make a profit has gone mechanized due to the unpredictable human labor force available. There are still a few farm labor buses that pick up workers at the border in San Luis but as I mentioned above, the big boys recruit young single military looking types from way down south.

And as a matter of fact I was born ignorant, and there ain't no Sprouts here and I always load up on Asparagus in PP since it's the same damn thing from the same damn place sold at the markets here only cheaper and fresher.

Still no answer from anyone actually in PP today concerning fuel availability. I can't make it from Yuma to PP and back on a single tank fill. Was planning on going down tomorrow. Oh well, guess I'll just go out to the fields and steal some lettuce tomorrow.

JJ
JimMcG
I've been down here all week and have seen no indications of a fuel shortage.

East Texas. We pick 150-200 pounds in the mornings, and about the same in the evenings.

Do you have a summer growing season? We live in the Phoenix area and plant early maturing varieties now. The growing season is pretty much over by May. The rest of the time is store-bought that have no taste.

We plant a little later, but not much. We pick into June. That's the reason for the early morning/late evening picking. Gets too hot to mess with them as the day heats up.
We use to plant strawberries too, but gave it up when my father retired because I don't have the time to tend to them with my work schedule.
