Following those directions, you end up at the place that serves them raw. They are awesome! But just to expand your horizons and try something different, go a little bit further on Fremont to the Playa Encanto turn off, go through Encanto to the little shack on the estuary (other side of the estuary as the one first mentioned) after you go through Playa La Jolla, and they make THE best grilled oysters. This place does not serve alcohol at all, you have to bring your own. It has been a few years since I've been there, I assume they are still there but no guarantees. Playa Encanto is a gated community, but if you tell them you are headed to the 'oysteria', you're good.
Although true, Punta Roja in Encanto is a must visit, the El Barco restaurant/oyster farm is a full service stop. They serve beer, and yes you can have raw oysters but they also do "prepared oysters" which are steamed with cheese and salsa and are fantastic. Even people that do not like oysters, like them the "prepared" way. Try them all fantastic, clean ocean means great seafood. Just a tip from a booster tour guide......
I will be in RP all next week and planned to go on Monday late morning to the estuary and try out El Barco, Punta Roja or maybe both ;) I found a picture on TripAdvisor of the El Barco road sign and it said 9am-7pm but did not mention any closed days. And for Punta Roja I found little or nothing. Does any know a little better what there schedules are? Thanks!
Based on the rough directions people have given, I went to google maps and tried to plot the route to each place. Can someone confirm that these are the right routes and locations? Thanks in advance!
thanks to Russ's advice, we went to both places last time we were down. I had the prepared oysters at Punta Roja and they were great.
not much for bathrooms there, for the guys this isn't much of a problem but for girls it is an issue.
El Barco is much closer and has a lot more customers. if i was to go again i would probably just go to El Barco.

I went to El Barco last monday morning at about 11am with 4 other buddies- it was unbelievable and everybody loved it. We brought our own beer just in case, and had a few down on the beach while they were getting the food ready, but they did have beer also which we gladly purchased when we sat down to eat. We tried the fresh oysters, also the grilled one with cheese and salsa, and finally some sting ray (manta) tacos and quesadillas. Well worth the trip, only 10-15 minutes or so outside of town, and I would definitely go back. Big thumbs up!
At Punta Roja you should also try the crab tostatos. they are wonderful
Do they serve quesadillas at Punta Roja? Still trying to decide between El Barco & Punta Roja. Crab tostadas sounds amazing so we are leaning towards Punta but our kids aren't into seafood

Just crab tostadas and both raw and grilled oysters at Punta Roja.
