Oh wow, unfortunately I started smoking again a year ago but, I want to try them!
Ha, the addict want's them, but YOU don't... I didn't think I could quit either but after some rounds of x-ray's and CT scans with definition (swollen lymph nods and what they called a "mass" in my left lung; it was a speck), that along with fact I couldn't breath and was scared to death gave me the push I needed. I also had encouragement and help from more than a few right here on RPT. A very small dosages of Wellbutrin while I worked on changing my habits, when and where, I finally made it to the store and back without them. I don’t know, about 5 years now and I live at 6000 ft. in a cabin in the Prescott National forest.... Damn addict, I'll bet you use Coffee too!

Oh, I get cheap nicotine gum off the internet and I also drink Coffee... Once a druggie always a druggie. Don't tell Steve though, OK?:D

I had quit for 10 years. about 6 months ago I quit smokin' the other and now it's more or less the only thing I do now is smoke cigarettes. It's not as much the nicotine as the act of smoking that I like. Breathing yeah, cough yeah... sucks yeah!
My wife smokes and since they are around I definitely have to fight that. Right now I smoke about 6 a day. But for the first time since I have smoked I actually get that stress relief factor. It was always just a boredom thing when I was younger or the "I only smoke when I drink" thing. Since I drank a lot when I was younger I guess I smoked a lot too! lol.

Coffee when it's cool and then Tea and Coke when it's hot.

All of the things I have abused over the years it has been the act of doing them that I struggle with most. The intelligent side of me knows whats best, not always as easy at that. I am sure having some years on my you know exactly what I am talking about.

Kenny hard to believe it has been that long. I remember when you visited and I was smoking and drinking and carrying on about something and you looked at me and said "You are not managing your addictions very well" I still carry on about stuff and drink a bit but no smoking !!

I'm thinking we were "carrying on" about addiction in general and probably it's causes and whether or not it's a disease, character flaw, choice, environment etc and how people manage it, or don't. Sounds about right though; me being a smart ass.:D

I recall carrying on about a comment you made about Chinese made goods and I got incensed about what I though was ignoring the need of peple to work and feed their families and how a boycot would effect them !! :D:D Just another good discussion. Talking to someone with whom you always agree is boring !!:eek:

I agree, but I'm not sure that was me about the China goods though because cheap chines goods equals Walmart and loss of jobs here in the States and both piss me off... So you're saying I thought Mexico's boycott of Chine's good was a good or bad thing?o_O

Doh!

<--Addict to addictions. Only a very small handful of things I haven't abused and luckily I have managed to make it this far. I would have liked to take part in a discussion about the reasons behind addiction with you both.

The short of it is while I feel I have learned some things and enlightened myself with others, I wouldn't recommend most of it to anyone.

Now days when I drink it's because I want to taste something. Once I taste it that passes and I am done for the night. Not much fun for the rest of my crew. Always the responsible one...

I always have a nice bottle of wine and/or some single malt around for visitors. One of our Mexico crew has a still and a while back I did a 2 month ferment on some sugar/banana based rum. Got 5 bottles of the most wicked and tasty 137% rum going.

Nice to be able to enjoy 1 drink and walk away.

Well Kenny & Hillibertoe, found you guys as I was taking a peak at the the other forums & behold guys we have couple big things in common. I'm an x smoker, did a pack a day for 20 years quit cold Turkey the day my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer at age 62. She lasted 4 months, my dad same thing at age 75. Took 5 years to clear up the hacking and all the other stuff smokers deal with. Never was much of a drinker or did drugs but I can tell you stopping the smoking habit was one of the toughest things I ever went through, I still consider it one of my great achievements. You guys will love this next one. My 40 year 1st career counting High school summers & after school hours started as a cutter & cloth spreader in a clothing factory in SC. My education as an Industrial engineer & apparel manufacturing experience propelled me through 4 decades of a career that I truly loved and did well at. Eventually I owned my own company with a showroom in NY City, unionized factory in New Bedford, MA. & many challenges to survive as long as I did. Finally with the passage of NAFTA pushed by Bill Clinton the end was in sight for my industry & China was simply waiting in the Wings along with WalMart to pick apart my industry as Mexico basically fumbled the ball to use a football analogy. I have been pretty good at visualizing ahead my entire life pretty much every aspect of my life, I never allow pride to make my business decisions, so I sold my company while there was still someone dumb enough to buy it, sold my wife's successful business, put my resume. Together and found an incredible job as VP Mfg. For a large AZ based apparel company & the rest is history. 6 years ago that company was bought out and all manufacturing was outsourced to China. I went to work for large University as a Military Enrollment Counselor Advisor in order to give an assist to the guys and gals coming back from 2 wars needing a big brother to help out with a career/education plan in civilian life. The bitter taste in my mouth still to this day watching 5 million jobs disappear from my industry to China, DR , Viet Nam, Cambodia, India, Pakistan etc drives me crazy, especially when the price we pay at retail rarely reflects the slave wages paid these workers overseas. Mexico has now given in to China. They recently signed trade agreements opening the flood gates to cheap imports. Eventually the prices at retail will rise just as they did here. Chins bought the Smithfield Ham Company headquartered in VA for the past 150 years. China also bought the most highly prized 2500 breeding bours I believe from WI. They also bought over 10,000 hectares of prime farm land for breeding hogs in the state of Jalesco, Mx from the MX gov. In addition China agreed to buy the lowest grade of Taquilla from Mexican Taquilla producers, they have a 10 year contract that pretty much gobbles up all cheap Mexican Tequila giving Mexico huge tax revenue.. BTW, Pork is China's # 1 protein food source. Saki is nice but they have fallen in love with rot gut Tequila. The killer in all this is North America, that's Canada, USA & Mexico are handing to China everything they need to rule the earth by 2050. The Canadian pipeline will probably divert to west coast of Canada where huge Chineese oil tankers will haul it all to China for refining, food, fruits. Think about 2500 top prime board fir breeding & in 10 years that will be 25,000. These examples are just the tip of the iceberg of their great plan to dominate the world. So while were kept of guard by ISIS China is building an empire that will make The world tremble. But at least we'll have Wall Mart unless China buys them too..

A lil off topic there Steve. But I do agree that China is just biding their time. My cousin has lived there for 9 years now. Things on the ground there are similar to here. Everyone just doing the day to day trying to get by.
Back on topic, all it takes is one to many cigs a day to make me just feed lime dog crap. I have been cooking all day and taking smoke breaks and now feel like total crap. When I have ever quit anything it has been cold turkey. I can already tell I am aproaching that time again.
Believe me I will be the first to say, it makes no sense at all to be smoking.

Try breaking some of your smoking habit's before you stop this time. You can start by not lighting up after every time you sample the food you're cooking.:D

Well hell boys since we have have drifted on a swirl of smoke to China I was listening that communist Npr and learned about the sacking of the summer palace http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/22/arts/22iht-MELVIN.html?pagewanted=all. China is still rightly pissed.....They have their own problems too,so don't set the world domination clock just yet.....hell,back to topic cigarettes might kill them first......Steve....NAFTA sure did suck ..Ross was right...

On the ground all around the world everyone is just trying to get by, difference is China has 1.3 billion living under a communist/socialist form of government with a capitalistic economy that's methodically & systematically gobbling up the worlds resources. Their government leaders have continuity while ours change ever 4 or8 years therefore they have a plan of action that's working which is evident. Their economy grows an average of 8-12% annually while ours is flat at 2-3%. Their military #'s & spending grows 2 to 3 times ours, we've actually reduced our headcount by startling #'s in recent years. So while our leaders continue to give away the store to China, educate & train their managers, engineers, IT persons, science, medical etc. Chinese bankers keep loaning us $ to fund our trillion dollar deficits, and laugh at us behind our backs knowing our grandchildren will curse you & I for allowing this, I wonder when 50 million Americans will have the courage to elect President that will put a stop to this economic suicide. When Clinton was President the WalMart flag flew over the White House, it still does. Geez, Wall Marts the Largest private employer in the USA, meaning non government. Sorta weird how the whole thing has gone full circle and yea Ross P. was 100 % right. If Billary wins next time, wonder how her being an x attorney on Wall Marts Corporate Staff will impact her trade decisions with China?

He's.......... our neighbor, a true hero our children can look up to, a passionate supporter of our sport, a great driver, an example of the type of guy that made our country great.......... and also a chassis builder yet we buy stuff made in China instead of Mach 1s. An absolute crying shame.

The reply by Dirt Devil and yes, minthess harps on this all the time.

And you continue to type on your silicone infested chines product?.. does that make you a bad American? hell no, 90% of the electronics in his welder are not produced in the U.S., I don't mean to call anyone out, and I love this country, but, this stuff goes to far.. for too long. Me, I'm your neighbor too, with several family generations going through the service with the U.S. military. I'm not rich, I'm a blue collar, born here in the U.S. my grandfather would praise the machinery I compete in (god how i wish i could have shown it too him), and for my hard earned dollar to afford it, I buy products I can afford to replace on a machine that gets easily damaged .. why, because I'm a racer, I do what I can to make the next race, just like many many of my competitors, should I feel ashamed because I didn't purchase a product manufactured in the U.S. with German tubing? I hear your cry, I understand, its too bad, but, this is a global economy we live in, the Manufacture you speak of is a great person, but, don't put a target on someone who is probably guilty of the same purchases YOU and I make day to day.. We're all not that different ya know, just don't be that naive.
