Fiesta cruiser shipwrecked, tourist dies

I was just looking at the tide charts for Novermber...the 24-26th have some decent high tides (20+ ft. above mean low water), occurring between 1-3am with a new moon.....would be interesting to see what "could" happen to the wreck then! I wonder if it will float????

Walked around the wreck, up close this afternoon. I could have walked right inside. There is no disassembly going on. There is nothing apparent leaking out of the hulk. Approaching down wind there was a whiff of publilc toilet on the breeze. There are three braces along the seaward side as if to prevent the thing from rolling over more on its side. Someone has recently gone around the hull and filled some openings with foam insulating stuff, the yellow stuff that expands. The rudders appear intact, not obviously bent or disconnected. The propellors are both completely ruined, bent as if they ran across rocks but they are brass and are a tempting target for the copper thieves I'm sure. The hulk is surrounded with some material apparently to contain any leakage. There are several ropes attached, but very small, as is the mini anchor. The small ropes might be useful in hauling a larger line to attach but not much else. All in all looks like little has been done.

Whats the over/under on how long this thing sits on the beach? Any takers? We can parlay it with a side bet on how quick the Malecon gets finished.

Not taking any bets on this one let me do calculation on how long it will take for the metals to break down being that close to the salt water. I am suprised the props are still there that is a few hundred bucks on scrap value.

Yeah, I was going to reply to Roberto's comment, "Looks like very little has been done," with, "Well OF COURSE, all the city workers are swarming on the Malecon construction! Oh, wait, uh...never mind." I keeed, I keeed. Sounds like they are kicking it up a notch on the Malecona, at least this week, working past sunset.

Driving by the harbor yesterday I noticed a pickup truck with the Fiesta Cruiser ticket sales booth leaving the area.

Checked on the Fiesta Cruiser after last night's wind and waves. Does not look like it has moved one inch.

I recently heard that the Navy will be moving (or start the process of moving) the Fiesta on the 24th, no word as to where they will be moving it...

you're going to need a couple shrimp boats to pull that hulk to deeper water....hopefully she is not holed enough to sink right when she starts to float.

They may sink it, but I doubt it. Its still somebodies personal property and besides they would probably have to do an environmental impact study to sink it, now when we want even to clear a lot or build near the ocean, we have to pull a permit for an impact study. Its probably headed to the boat yard.

They will send it to the boat yard weld on some patches slapp on some new paint and have it ready for the spring breakers. Impact study would take to long and the cleaning of the boat would cost to much money.

The article i read, the captain of the port said it was seaworthy, I dont believe it, but there is a chance you will see it being repaired, if the rudder really was the problem. I bet they lost power, Roberto said the rudder looked ok.

Seaworthy has many different meanings. look at some of the shrimp boats. The bilge pumps more water than a hi pressure fire hose.

When I was down there I met a guy who said he was on the boat when it happened. He said one engine was running but the capt. could not steer the boat. Sounds like the controls between the wheel and the rudders failed. Maybe cable or hydraulic ?
